I'm back in the land of cold weather, wind, and snow. I left CA on a day it reached 90 degrees and arrived in Anchorage to 12 degree weather, caught a plane to Unalaska where it was 34 with 2 inches o

You know, this is a very good point. I haven't seen anything about this on the national news or even on the big headlines on Google or anything. It's like the US thinks Canada is insignificant or something...oh....wait.I kid, I kid.It is a bit disturbing that we haven't heard anything about this at all and probably won't unless it directly affects us.
I did find one thing on MSNBC.....but I had to dig. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28009997/
I agree with ya bunny, Blue's just an *******! :club: In the first bold, 100% agree. In the second, we like revolutions down here! I have weapons, Bring it On! :ts
Normie, the voice of reason. :D
This is the most interesting thing. What he's basically proposing is dismissing Parliament until late January. If there are no votes, then his government can't be defeated. This would allow the Conservatives nearly two months to fine tune their federal budget and present it. Assuming the coalition holds together until then, the budget would then be defeated, which would allow the coalition to ask the governor general to let them form a gov't.What Harper is hoping, I assume, is that the people will LOVE his budget proposal and be aghast that the coalition would prevent it from being implemented. The coalition's budget, though, would be very similar.Like I said, fascinating times. And just like football head coaches, I think politicians generally get too much credit when things are going well and too much blame when things are going poorly. I'm of the belief the economy generally is going to do what it's going to do, regardless of the prime minister, not because of him. That's why I'm not pulling out my hair and declaring this the worst thing in the history of the world.
If you had any hair, that is.

I agree that whatever happens in the economy, worldwide or nationally, is going to happen no matter who is in control. It would be nice to have a majority government in charge and one Prime Minister complete a full term in office.
I agree about the majority government.I agree that globally, things are going to happen no matter who we have in charge. My concern lies with the REACTION of my government to those global events.
Reminds me, we've had this trend at work the last few years of middle-aged and older men taking month-long vacations in the Philippines. One guy started it, had a great time, and convinced a few others to go. Apparently the women over there love older white guys, plus the hookers are dirt cheap. One guy went about 8 months ago, then went 3 months ago, and just had some girl move over here last month. I guess they're married now. He's about 60 and I think she's 22.
A casual friend of mine was telling me a while back about how her brother lives in Thailand (and that she and her 14 yr old daughter were going over for 6 weeks to visit). In making conversation I asked......"what does he do for a living over there". She responded "he has sex with underage age girls". :club: Apparently he owned a car dealership here in Canada at one time (Hyundai).......went to Thailand for a visit.......was totally enamoured with the "life".......and stayed permanently. He has sex several times a day......with a variety of girls, averaging 15 yrs old in age. He has his NUMBA WON girl, that more or less lives with him, but has a steady stream of others. He is also very heavily involved in online poker, as well as poker related activities in Thailand (organizing tournaments etc). Paradise for some of you, I'm sure.

I didn't expect you to agree sammy, or norm, but it's my opinion.
I can dig that butDo you really believe that the POTUS can't have a major impact on the world economy? Seriously!
If you believe that, then you have to think Reagan and Bush I were terrible and plunged the world into a depression from the late 1980s to the early 1990s and also believe Clinton brought the US (and the rest of the world) out of the crisis.
WTF are you talking about?

I think the perception of his impact (or any one persons), both positive and negative, is greater than the reality.

OK that makes more sense, thanks.

When I was in college in the mid 1980s, there were record high interest rates.Black Tuesday was October 1987, when Reagan was president, followed by Bush a year later. Through about 1994ish, there was a pretty severe recession. If POTUS has such a big impact, are Reagan and Bush to blame for that economic spiral?

But Blue, often these types of events culminate after much time and a variety of factors (sometimes years in the making), and may very well not be due to the actions of whoever is currently in power!

Jeff, Do you know if Scram is banned again? That thread with the cartoon was ridiculous.

It's more cyclical than people give it credit for.

I don't know, Dave. I was among those who complained about the thread he made the other day about a jewish riff on Charlie Brown. I know that thread was taken down immediately and Scram hasn't been around since, but nothing official.Alan should know.

Black Monday Yup program trading and the Hong Kong market collapse that triggered black Monday was obviously Regan's fault.Through about 1994ish, there was a pretty severe recession.Maybe in Canada but the good old USA economy continued to grow after black Monday and only turned into recession after oil prices went up in 1990 because of the gulf war. That recession lasted less than a year in the USA.If POTUS has such a big impact, are Reagan and Bush to blame for that economic spiral?Their was no economic spiral, in fact it was just the opposite. Regan inherited a economy in turmoil from the bad policies of the 70's, double digit inflation and unemployment and 20% interest rates. His tax policies absolutely are the reason for the USA's huge recovery.

really? this is your response? You're better than this, bunny.
It wasn't a response to anything. lol. I just read the "Canadians Unite" thread, and saw that out of the Canadians that posted there........only you and Rose are "ok" with what is going on. I'd say you're in good company......except......well...........yeah, I'm not gonna go there.Sigh. I care a great deal for you Jeff. I don't want to argue with you. We clearly don't see eye-to-eye on most things political, include the current situation. We'll just agree to disagree. Fair enough?
