Just pointing out the difference. For me, poker is a hobby. It's something I enjoy. It engages my brain. So, if I play for 4 hours and walk away even or up, then I've had 4 hours of fun and it didn't cost me a cent. It keeps me from chasing that adrenaline but on the reverse side, it probably keeps me from having the drive needed to ever make poker more than a hobby too.2nd!My bowling average when we quit bowling like 3 years ago was 172.you can't play on our league! you'd be beating our best person by about 30 pins! hehe Link to post Share on other sites

dms26 3 Posted May 17, 2006 Share Posted May 17, 2006 To add perspective to my whole bankroll and the only thing that makes me feel even the slightest bit better is I deposited $50 in January 2005 and have never added another penny from my own pocket into poker. This includes fully funding my Atlantic City trip last yar, My fcpha vegas flight and trip in february, my laptop, a couple concerts, not counting all the free shizit like my IPOD and what not I got from PSO. I technically should be thrilled I still have $600. It just sucks to know that a week or to ago I had $2500 and 6 months ago I was over $4500. I know I can beat the game, I just have to follow the rules. I am typing this more for my own self confidence then anythingyou know you're good enough to beat the game, it's jsut a mtter of not doing something stupid with a large % of your BR. It's a fine line, and he might be crossing it, but if it works for him who cares.I agree that the mentality needs to be there, but I think there's a difference between cockiness and arrogance.In the HUL, when he offered himself up as at 3-2 favorite, that's cocky and bold, and even DN laughed his azz off, but I can respect that he'd put himself out there like that.To put that up in your title, and often make posts intended to make other people feel beneath you, well, I just think that's disrespectful and arrogant. It seems like it's hard for alot of pros also.Yea, I think I have ran into the same problem as Alan did. When I decided to get serious about poker I took the 300 I had from winnings that month at home games and started hitting the casino, I worked my BR up to about 4 grand or so pretty quickly and started playing higher limits. A few months ago, I had to pull most of my BR for an emergency that came up, and only had about 400 left. I got really bored playing .50/1 so I took a shot at the limits i was playing and took a few bad beats and lost most my online cash. So I am back to rebuilding from scratch and sometimes I have a hard time staying focused on the lower limits due to me thinking in terms of $ and not BB.I'd say I'm also sick of seing my big hands get beat by runner runner draws, but after watching Brad play 30/60 apparently retards play at every level.There's a difference between confidence and cockiness.I agree. I think that if he doesn't learn soon that he really doesn't know everything about this game that he's going to fall hard. For me, it's the money and the thrill, which is why I've always played NL, and so don't really think about it in BB. I've tried to be more disciplined, but it's still the gamble in me. For Jeff, he can sit and grind out 5BB/100 at small limits, and he enjoys that, but I look at it as, how'd I just sit here playing really well at $.50/$1 and make less than minimum wage. I know that building up the bankroll and then moving up levels increases that, but I don't have the patience...since for me, it's more about the score, than the marathon achievement.I'd just like to point out that I'm the exact same way. I'd talk more trash than Reggie Miller does to Spike Lee, but if I got beat or shown up i would be the first to say good job to you also. It was a way to prepare myself mentally for a challenge.
