Scott31 0
Hero has AA in MP1. Everyone folds and I raise. It's folded to the BB who calls.Flop is K86 rainbow. He checks, I bet. Turn is a Q. He checks, I bet. River is an 8. He checks, I bet, he raises. The question at the table was whether or not I should bet my aces on the river for value. 3 people at the table were absolutely convinced that if you just have aces at the river, that you should check. (Claims he read it in a book). What does the BB have, and was my river bet correct in this heads up pot?
Wingmaster05 0
i probably bet if he shows me trips, 5 inches from my face, just for the sake of betting when i should.edit: didnt see your other question about the villain's hand. He probably has, in this order...trip 8sbusted drawking upI put busted draw (like J10) becuase i can't see a king check calling all the way to the river, and well, i've seen too many bluff attempts at the river in my games. BUT, we know that he probably has these hands only when he raises the river. 90 perecent of the time we have the best hand on the river. must bet.
Wingmaster05 0
what i meant was...yes, definitely bet the river.
Scott31 0
what i meant was...yes, definitely bet the river. Yeah, got it. A very juicy table as 30% of the table called me a fish for betting it. One even said that "Everybody else at the table knew you were beat, except you. YOu do the math." Wow!!! Wingmaster05 0
lol, yeah i dont know where people get some of their ideas. last time i heard a lady say something like "i won't bet into you, but i will call you all day with that hand". My response "(snort). wow you're right lady" whatever keeps them happy
Scott31 0
I'll give you the BBs hand if you'd like now...you might be surprisedany guesses first?
gar 0
I was playing multiple tables and just caught the aftermath, but it was funny to see Scott being lectured on his "mistake" by not just one, but 2 or 3 other players . I missed the hand otherwise I would have supported Scott, but in hindsight, I'm glad I didn't join the debate, if they ever have pockets aces against me, I'll be glad they checked the river. Scott31 0
Yeah, unbelievably cut and dry river bet. But then a guy who claimed to have won 45K in a tourney this year said that I was an idiot. Yikes!
Scott31 0
BB had KK...I wasn't thrilled as to how he played it, but he saved me some money, so that's good.

If he doesn't get this simple concept, then I really don't believe him. I think checking the river in No LImit is pretty weak as well.

I think checking the river in No LImit is pretty weak as well.yeah, I don't play NL much; but at least in NL you have he excuse that opening up the betting leaves you more vulnerable to bluffs or huge hands, than you are in Limit, for just one bet. Briguy 0
The proper response, BTW, is to agree with the donkeys and say 'NH'. Even go so far as to promise to not value-bet in marginal to strong positions in the future. There's no reason to be a teacher.
Sushiman 0
The guy played it like a typical idiot. 3 of the people at your table are even bigger idiots for telling you to check the river. Bet that every time. People who slowplay monsters til the very last minute can keep doing it. All it does is save me money.

Ooh, yeah...problem there is that I AM a teacher. Although, yes you're right. I should resist the urge to educate the idiots of the world. At least when it comes to money at the poker table. acesfullmike 0
PLEASE do not educate these idiots at the table with the OP. sounded like a busted draw trying to steal a pot. a pot that you absolutely must call down with the money in there already. glad to hear you lost the bare minimum. that sounds retarded, but against anyone with a brain it probably would have cost you several more bets. mrdannyg 274
when something like this happens to me, i listen carefully to the reasons people tell me i should not have bet, usually with comments like "yeah, maybe you're right" and "could've saved a bet or two there."then I ask the BB how he knew what I had and therefore outplayed me so well.all the same time I inwardly thank BB for saving me about 6 bets with his horrible play. I guessed he had K8 btw in an online game, i'll often reraise that river, since the board pairing helps us against any hand without an 8. at a low limit B&M game though, he isn't bluffing often there...he's just a fish.and yes, bet that river every time.
