Rooting for Doyle is just so... safe and boring.Why? Because he's doyle? Lame.Grow some balls and root for someone else.I take it that first one is a girl? I want her to win... has a woman ever won anything? Seriously? Yeah, lets root for the underdog chick.

Well.. I agree that she sounds like a twit. The point was to not root for doyle... otherwise I don't care. I just don't see why everyone has a love affair with doyle, just cause he's old and has been doing it forever. I'd much rather take lessons from someone else if given the chance. i like to root for brunson even more now-a-days. by him doing sweet, it adds validity to the idea that skill is more important. when these new and upandcomers win, who knows whether they will still be winning 5 years from now

I can tell you why I root for Doyle, and it's actually more than just "old guy crushing players half his age". Call it superstitous of me if you want, I don't particularly care. The main two are as follows:A. Doyle and I share a birthday; more precisely, I was born 50 years to the day after him.B. In one of the WSOP '04 broadcasts, he mentions surviving terminal cancer at a young age. I'm also a cancer survivor. I don't know if it was actually defined as "terminal", but I do know that the oncologist said "This treatment may leave you sterile, but you don't have time to go to a sperm bank, we need to start as soon as possible". Not that I claim to be anywhere close to Doyle's level when it comes to poker playing ability, but these two things let me identify with the guy moreso than most poker players, as strange as that may sound.Combine this with his influence, ability, etc. and it's hard for me not to root for the guy.

Have you read his books? Have you read all the stories about him travelling around playing before poker was legal? Do you have any respect for someone who has been playing at the highest level of a game for 50 years, both tournaments and cash games?I don't see how you could not root for the guy.

Hating on Brunson. How iconoclastic. How Punk rock. How fuking lame.I root for Doyle because Super system was the first serious poker book I ever read, and it transformed my game. Also, I just don't understand this kind of vitrol against Brunsonand Brunson's fans. It's like those people who wanted arnold palmer to stop playing the Masters. of course people love Doyle because he's been around for a long time. PEople root for any elder person who is still successful in their sport. People rooted for Nolan Ryan more and more with each year he was in the league. Imagine if Arnold Palmer was actually competitive in his 70's, how big his galleries would have been. Brunson is an absolute legend, and NOT just because ESPN says so. Hating on brunson, and his fans is player haterdom of the highest order. Hating something just because it's popular is just as lame as liking something just because it's popular.

I'm not sure if "solid" describes Doyle's play (in No Limit) that well. I would say it is EXTREMELY aggressive. Balls to the wall. And believe you me, Doyle has some ginormous balls. They're huge.
