"in high school i was a bit of a loser" -hellmuth

It scares me how seriously he takes himself.
How many bracelets again?
9, plus the heads up poker championship, which is (I think) his greatest poker achievement.9 bracelets, only in hold'em, in a time where NOBODY played hold'em the way it's played now.Watch the 1995 tournament at the Taj Mahal. It's a younger, brash Phil Hellmuth just stealing blinds from old, weak/tight huckle Southern gamblers. He was still able to make a complete ass of himself and talk bad about other players, though.

Obviously he's good for TV, and he can definitely sell lots of sunglasses, books, and cell phone games.Don't forget Harrah's robbing tournament players of equity just so they could fit Hellmuth and others in to sell commercials.I'm saying he's a bad example for poker players, and cons the casual poker community constantly about how good he really is TODAY, now that the kids are playing back at him.

Hellmuth definitely is a top player that we all like to watch on TV, either because we respect him or we like to rip on him, but the guy is quite arrogant. In the interview he talks about having a line of sunglasses as being huge for a poker player, that’s just whack. How about winning more championships, that would be bigger obviously. And does anybody know how big that 7 card stud tournament he won was? Because we all like to rip on him for having only won big hold'em titles, but if that was a bigger buy-in, large field 7 stud win that would be impressive. Anyway, I think Hellmuth is good for poker and he certainly is entertaining to watch. I'm looking forward to watching the TOC to see him and Matusow battle it out.We could also add more lists of our top 5 favorite pros to watch on tv.IveyDNHellmuthHarringtonMarcel Luske

He is definetly guilty of over marketing himself and over glorifying how good he is but I think that his way of fighting back against masses on Internet forum's who are ripping his play.

Like I said in my post about playing golf with him, he actually does think he is the best in the world. Most would disagree, but the guy is supremely confident in his abilities, so you have to give him that. Having confidence in yourself is extremely important, especially in a game like poker. Whether or not he is the best, or even in the top 10, is debatable, but you can't fault a guy for thinking that way. I tend to accept people's personalities for what they are, so he doesn't bother me. That being said, it reminded me of Barry Bonds' comment a few years back of 'I'm not arrogant, I'm good.' :-)Patrick

I think he needs to grow up, be a man, and get over his beats like everyone else.I think he needs to stop trying to intimidate amateurs or internet players by repeatedly referencing the behavior of the "Top 10 Players in the World," which he is no longer a part of, especially in cash games.I think THAT influence is bad for poker.
He doesn't really play cash games, and he realize he is a fish when it comes down to them. He's still a great tournament player. Oh and serriously i don't aprove how he acts, but the simple fact that it makes for good tv, and if it wasn't for these type of characters poker wouldn't be what it was so yes he is good for tv.
