drinking + poker = bad

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I really ****ed everything up last night. First, I got loaded, and decided I wasn't too drunk to play poker. Playing NL 600, I managed to lose $6000 (my entire online bankroll), in about an hour and a half. Then, I decided that I needed to go out and play blackjack to win it back, even though I was extremely drunk, and the roads have been terrible. Well, I crashed my car into a tree, got a DUI, and spent the night in the hospital.I cashed out enough money when I was ahead that I'm sure I'll be able to rebuild my poker bankroll eventually (I've got around $5000 in my bank account from poker), but getting my license suspended and possibly getting kicked out of school (due to the three strikes policy) should be tons of fun.

Get ready to spend that $5000 on your DUI fines and mandatory classes. Be sure to get everything the court requires of you done on time. Oh, and if this is your first offense, don't hire a lawyer. Use the court appointed attorney.

I think have some drinks is great for poker.. especially if you are at a new game and need to relax... a few Ketel One's and Cranberry at the Borgata.....but as they say... everything in moderation... Now pot on the other hand... is bad for poker... it severely lowers your IQ and will cause you to get impatient or just plain play poorly.of course I know some people who contradict this... to each their own.

I did the same thing man...minus the smashing my car into a tree.Hopefully you'll learn from it. I still play drunk once in a while, but at least now instead of playing above my bankroll, I find a small stakes table and reak havoc on it. Actually I did get a DUI once. I agree with whoever said not to get an attorney. You won't win anyway so don't waste your money. There is nothing the lawyer can do to lessen the charges. Just pay the fine, go to the classes, drive illegally, and try to smile once in a while.

This type of thing is why I wish we could choose to lock our accounts for a set amount of time (for instance, locking the account until morning before going out to the bar). It follows the same thought pattern as self-set deposit limits. I could see myself getting into the same situation, minus the blackjack part.

maybe i can find a market for my everything breathalyzer machine. I want to put one on my phone that only dials the cab company and absolutely will not tell me any of my exgirlfriends numbers. Maybe if i could get one on my laptop i wouldnt do anything stupid too.best of luck with the dui case. i would have to disagree with some of the advice. i was not allowed a court appointed attorney, so i paid for mine. he was worth every cent as i won mine in court. make sure you go for the trial by jury. i won on a stupid technicality that i never would have figured out on my own.

I keep a laptop and a bottle of Jim Bean in my car to "entertain" me during my commute home from work (2 hours). It really puts me on tilt when some asshole driver cuts me off. I end up taking a swig of whiskey and chasing every gutshot until I put a bad beat on someone to calm me down. This tilting is -EV for my bankroll. Any suggestions?

WTF!?!?!?!?!!?!  You got a DUI, got kicked out of school, went to the hospital......and you are worried about rebuilding your bankroll!?!?!??!?!Get your f*ck*n priorities straight, MOFO.
Well, not really. Just figured I'd focus on the poker side since this is a poker forum. Also, if I'm not getting a degree, I'm probably going to end up playing poker for a living, so I do need to get my bankroll back. Finally, I am going to need the money for my court fees, etc., so it's kind of important, but it's certainly not my priority right now. Just trying to not think about all the crap that's going to happen for the next couple months or so. I figure that when this shit's all over, I probably will be focused on getting my bankroll back up, so I'm trying to look ahead to that a little bit.

I have been known to change my desktop background when I know I'm going to get wasted and come home wanting to play. I have it scroll the following...Do Us Both A Favor And Jerk Off Instead!!!I swear to god, this works. A few times I've logged on having completely forgotten about it and 1. laughed hysterically 2. jerked off instead

you havent played blackjack much have you?hint: the exact opposite thing happens when you play blackjack. unless you have a shitload of money and you are counting cards. i'm gonna go out on a limb and say neither applies.

so you are old enuf to go to a casino but you go to a school that kicks you out based on arrests? do you go to a private catholic colllege?
Washington State University actually. They implemented a bunch of policies to "change their image" as a party school, and the three strikes policy was one of them.Freshman year, I got one strike for just getting caught drinking in the dorms by the RA and one strike for an MIP later in the year. I thought there was something in the policy about not getting kicked out if it's been a year and I'm a junior now, but it's pretty open to discretion, and I don't think they're going to give me the benefit of the doubt on a DUI.
