boyitalia 0
I am what you would call your basic Semi-Serious Poker Player. I am 29 years old, and have been playing for the past 10 years. I have taken down on average about 2 of my B&M tourny's a year over the years at Lucky Chances, and have finished in the money on a regular basis also. I play 6-12 to 9-18 lmits cause I am a teacher and just got engaged so it is not worth the risk my bankroll. Anyway my question is. If I wanted to play in the Series or WPT events this year, would I be better off trying to "sell" myself to a backer(And what is the best way to do that), or to take a serious risk to my bankroll? Any comment would be appreciated. Good luck guys.
copernicus 0
As an unknown finding a single backer is a long shot. Your best bet along that line is if you have a regular group of guys who recognize you as the best in the group and form a pool. The other way is satellites...there are tons of them.Don't take a big hit to your bankroll or spend the honeymoon money! Winning a few million is a great way to start a marriage, but pawning the engagement ring is a sure turn toward early divorce!
gobears 0
I would go the SAT route as there are plenty of satellites on the major online poker sites for both the WPT or WSOP events. For backers, your best bet is for folks that have seen you play at Lucky Chances or at a home game. I wouldn't put up the $10K fee for a WPT or WSOP event unless it doesn't really affect you if you don't make the money - if your bankroll can't afford the risk, then don't do it. boyitalia 0
That's what I knda figured. Sat's would be the best way to go. Unfortunatly most of my friends are Donks when it comes to poker so they would rather spend the money on their own Sat's. Thanks for the advice gys I appreciate it. SORROW_HARVESTER 0
It sounds as if you are trying to play out of you're leauge? Why would anyone back you? What kind of a track record do you have to even be a backable asset? Backers bank people when they feel they are getting the best of it. What have you won that would make a backer want to gamble on your skills? You honestly arnt a backable asset or people would be asking to back you instead of you asking how to get backed.Win a seat, then win again, and back yourself! P.S What does this mean "basic Semi-Serious Poker Player? Not a comment a potential "backer" would smile at. lol
boyitalia 0
Now that was a little rude. anyway. I am trying to move up a level cause I am pretty much dominating the games I have been playing in. As far as the semi-serious comment I should have stated semi-professional. Sorry for mis quoting myself. Just a simple question on maybe taking a little of the financial risk out of it.

boyitalia 0
Lol never thought one little post wuld get some interesting responses. I think taking down 2 tourny's a year at a very competitive california cardroom is plenty to be honest. Not to mention the other final table appearences during the year. I mean I don't really even play a ton of tourny's. I am more of a cash game player(which I realize is a weakness when it comes to aggresive tourny play) This isn't some little ass backwards club in Montana now. This is the bay area. Out of my casino a few names have pop up from there. Gabe thaler, Phil Laak, Antonio Esfendari, Even a dealer Mr. Washington as I like to call him was at a final table at the series in 2004. But anyway I appreciate all the comments. Including the "constructive critisism" and attempts at trying to give me a reality check on my skills.
