quadaces 0
Why am I such a DONK when playing on-line Tournaments?I play live tournaments fine, and on-line and live cash games good but the tournaments I seem to play horribly. I do get bad beats like everyone else, but I don;t think that thats all it is. If I could I would post some hands but I can't figure out how to do it on full tilt. I am new to online play both cash and tournaments. I have played about 10 SnG's and have only cashed 1 time- I won comming back from a 5-1 chip deficiate (?). I've been 1 away from money 3 times. any suggestions would help Thanks
therrinn 0
Are you trying to multi-table the online tournaments? If so, I'd suggest limiting it to one so that you can put all your focus into that one, at least until you're winning regularly. Also, make sure that whatever strategy/game plan is suited to the blind structure, which might be very different from what you've experienced in live tournament play. Also, one of the things that will come with time is an understanding of the online player's mentality. You might think that there's no way someone is on a flush draw since they've been calling pot sized bets and/or reraised you all in. The truth is they are. Or you might think that you're AQ is no good since they just reraised you all in after you haven't played a hand in 4 orbits...nope, they've got A9, but its suited. There's no way they'd call into that 4-straight without the nuts, right? Nope, they have middle pair. Once you understand things like these, your online tournament play will reach previously unimagined heights.

None of this applies in 30/50/100 buy in SnGs that I play in

Play cheapies $5, 10. I play SnG's and MTT. All Hold'em except for 1 HORSE tourny that I played well in untill razz, stud (Which may be my best game although with all the cash game donks i make more at Holdem) and Stud8I don't multi table just 1 at a time. I do other things sometimes and probably don;t concentrate enough? I've tried mixing up my strategy, Tight aggressive, loose aggressive, Passive ( worst mistake). Thanks again for all the help!seems like all I've been doing online is winning in the cash games and donating it to the tournaments - so I'd like to collect some of it back! Stealth Beagle 0
Quad, I play those cheap tourneys on Full Tilt all the time (screen name ccmcc33). First, you'll be amazed at how bad some of the play is during the early levels--clearly many people enter with a "what the hell, it's only five bucks" mentality and thus will pull to their draws without sufficient odds very haphazardly, and many just won't be afraid to push with nearly anything. My philosophy is to play tight, solid poker until the first break, trying to avoid coin flips for my whole stack. Things always settle down during the second hour and beyond. Saralynelle 0
All good advice here. I love tournaments. I play in them every chance I get. They are my bread and butter. Which is odd since when I sit down to a ring game I burn and crash. *shrugs*Patience. Grab the pots you think you can from time to time to keep up and not let the blinds knock you out. Ah, did I mention patience.
