Dunkin donos....not complaining about the beat.....just wanted to learn more about why he called and if others would do the same in this position. I asked and he said, "because I had a pair and wanted to gamble."I just feel like if he wanted to gamble, some sort of thought had to come across his mind that I didn't have AK and could have had 99-AA making me an 80/20 favorite. Not sure if you gamble half your stack when you are a 20% favorite....

Bad players like this will pay your rent over the long-term. Learn to love them...

You're thinking way too hard about your opponent's mindset here. It sounds like this is a $5 or $10 tourney. Many opponents are willing to gamble without consideration for whether they face a coinflip or are dominated. Some people really do look at poker as idle entertainment, akin to pulling the lever on a slot machine. Add that to the fact that he had double your chips, and you have your answer. He probably wasn't even aware that you got dealt cards, and he probably makes the same play with any pair.Just this morning in NL $.25/.50 I had a guy call a $40 reraise all-in with A4 on an AQ2 flop. I had AQ, and he caught runner-runner 4s to win. Did I play it incorrectly? No. Is there any type of logic known to humanity that would compel someone to put in $40 with a weak kicker against an opponent who he had already seen to be solid? No. I also got called all-in in a tourney when I pushed QQ. We both had 10x the BB. He had 46 suited and made a straight. He figured "his cards were live." Is there any logic to being willing to gamble getting even money when you know you don't have even odds? No.Just recognize that your opponent hit his two-outer and is likely to make the same rash play again. Don't try to analyze it, because there's probably no thought process. If he put you on overcards and thought it was a coinflip, then you sold your hand well and got in with the best of it by far.

BTW....when the money went in....you were like a 60-40 favorite....hardly in a dominant position. As a gamble...I like your opponent's play...as a gamble of course.EDIT: The money went in preflop...I thought it went in on the flop.
