I'm calling shenanigans till we get another source on this.  Why would they have changed the format? They had it like that specifically. And beyond that, every other Poker Superstars has been in a sterile studio environment with no crowd, to prevent the winner from leaking  I would guess.  Give us more proof, until then...Shenanigans.
The DID change the format...Because the old was was horrid.

Why does this event hold confidentiality and secrecy in such high regard? For every other major event in the poker world, we have cardplayer live coverage- all results are known well before the broadcast actually airs. Does anyone know why this one is so hush-hush?

15-6= 9 other random people. Are you telling me that they couldn't find 9 people to fill the seats and were filming short-handed until you showed up? :liar:

doesn't the OP mean 2006?  Cause why would they wait a friggin year and a half to watch this tourney...
PS2 ran for like 26 weeks,, so by the time they edit it and start showing it at the begining of summer the superbowl would be about right.

They may not have advertised and it was at the nugget, so who knows. Maybe it held a low profile

I walked in to it with 3 people left but i know 5 of the 6 it came down to Antonio, Carlos Mortenson, Todd Brunson, Johnny Chan, Mike Matusow. I dont know who the sixth on was sorry, but see if you can figure out in that group who has been playing the best poker of their life to win it
i call BS, too. chan, brunson, and mortenson were 3 of final 4 in PS2, so those same names in final 6 makes this much more likely to be made up by someone who watched PS2 than coincidence.

Ummm....yeah that's how they went last year. Why do you think the structure is so bad, just because? They have to get it done quickly.

This is Barry Shulman's latest blog over at Cardplayer. The Poker Superstars Invitational Tournament IIIBy Barry Shulman, Card Player Chairman - 2005-11-15We’re in the second generation of poker for television, and it’s becoming much more sophisticated. I had the privilege of viewing much of the taping of the Poker Superstars Invitational III for FOXSports Network last week at The Golden Nugget. The series will be televised for 36 weeks starting in April. Superstars III is an improved version of Superstars II, which itself has become the highest-rated weekly series on FSN.The structure is great. Inventor (of the under-the-table camera that has so revolutionized televised tournaments) and poker visionary Henry Orenstein, together with skilled team members Mori Eskandani and Eric Drache, has formatted a tournament in which the all-in move is an offensive weapon instead of a defensive death device. We’ll learn how the pros adjust even their own basic no-limit hold’em strategies to account for stack size and short-handed play. Each of the 24 star players, all of whom paid $50,000 entry fees, plays at least five matches. The structure is such that they can take bad beats and still come back. The field reduces to 16, 8, 4, and finally becomes heads-up. It is short-handed play of the best against the best, and it’s tough, interesting poker. With the same top players competing over and over, we will be able to see the best play ongoing and get a feel for individual styles and skills. The matches last about 90 minutes, with each edited into a one-hour TV episode. With so little ending up on the cutting floor, we will see many more hands than in a normal television poker event. This will give us a real feel for the action. None of this coming back from a break and finding the chip positions radically altered. This tournament is an example of the growing realization that viewers want to see not only more and more poker on TV, but they also want to see recognizable players taking center stage. And that’s a good thing. Just like other sports, viewers want to see the best matched against the best. This is one poker program that you can view and not only be entertained, but learn as well.
