PFunk 0
"it is a free gaming site"Why do all poker site commercials have this tag line?Anyone know the laws on advertising for gambling websites/casinos?There have to be some and I am assuming this is one of the loopholes they use to get around it or something....Also the famous Harrahs "sometimes the person telling you not to gamble is not who you would think" shtick.....clearly an advertisement for their casino's-P. psujohn 0
There's some question about the legality of US companies taking advertising from online gambling sites. For that reason TV networks won't take ads from partypoker.com. They take ads from partypoker.NET which is the free site. PartyPoker.NET then directs you to the .com pay site if you want to play for real money. You'll also notice that the mainstream websites Yahoo, AOL, MSN, etc won't take ads for online casinos. bampote 0
I imagine it's something like how candidates for office have to say "I'm ______ and I approved this message." It's just a mandatory add-on so they're not encouraging what might be considered an illegal activity in the States.
TobyOrNotToBe 0
.NET : free play.com : for profit....thus only advertise .net because gambling web sites are illegal in the USA...but it's ok if you have land and are an indian here in Florida. Kind of like you can't advertise cigs on tv but you can pay an actor to smoke one..sort of.
JBradburn6 0
Kind of like how companies can't advertise for cigarettes on TV, companies can't advertise gambling on TV, so this is their way around it.
PFunk 0
Kind of like how companies can't advertise for cigarettes on TV, companies can't advertise gambling on TV, so this is their way around it.So then, I wonder if the cigarette companies could make a commercial saying: "hi, Im blah blah from Phillip Morris, ceo of MARBOLRO cigarettes...We all at MARLBORO want you to know that cigarettes can be harmful to your health, and you shouldnt smoke while you are pregnant" maybe they already do.... I dunno
jayistheman 0
As far as the Harrah's anti excessive gambling commercial, that's a pretty common thing. Just like the fact that most of the anti-smoking campaigns are run by the tobacco companies. the activists applaud it, and the regular joe smoker doesnt give a damn. i also laugh when i'm told "drink responsibly, captain's orders". Kind of like you can't advertise cigs on tv but you can pay an actor to smoke one..sort of.the legality has been / is /will be in a "...so is it legal or not......" state for a while. basically, advertising .net or free play is fine because it goes along with the general consensus that it isn't legal (not to be confused with it is illegal)..... no money being made so, ok, fine, go ahead with the advertisement.advertising .com or for profit play would be like the government saying, sure, it is legal (not to be confused it isn't illegal)...... go ahead and advertise your for profit poker site.it's about respecting "gray area" boundaries

Valuecall 0
Here in the USA, I believe Yahoo and Google received some heat from the Government about taking ads for online gambling/poker. At a minimum, the Poker sites advertising their play money sites instead of real money helps give the networks some cover. There may also be some laws about advertising something like online poker where the Government's current opinion is that such gaming is in violation of the wire act.
Chrisj1616 0
As far as I know, none of the .net sites direct try to direct you to thier .com site on the site or in the software...that would be a No-NoWhat theyre hoping for I think is for you to type .com instead of .net
SHOTPUTSTAR 0
As far as I know, none of the .net sites direct try to direct you to thier .com site on the site or in the software...that would be a No-NoWhat theyre hoping for I think is for you to type .com instead of .netIt's not that they are hoping you type in .com, it's that they hope you play for play money, kick Ace, think you can turn pro and MM's and LOOK for if you can play for real money on their site (they won't find this on the .net site, but that is why the promotions for real money are plastered all over the opening screens of ALL poker sites) Then they sit down and give us all there money. Thank you .net!! Anyway, it's like any business, sample distribution gives the consumer a small taste so that they become hungry for it. Good advertising with the constraints placed on them. yeffy 0
Over a year ago or more Discovery Channel had the government seize money (or try to seize the money) from the .com advertisers back when they ran .com ads. Instead of pushing the issue they just folded. With a little google research you could find the old news stories.
