I've got a soft spot for 3's in the hole, just one of those hands I guess.I was playing a live cash game with some buddies at like 2am one morning. We'd been playing for hours so everyone had a good feel of each other, and I had pretty good control of the table. I was playing very tight/aggressive, only showing down the monsters. I'm sitting with about 120 bucks, my opponent has around 80. Blinds 1/2 NL. He raises from the button to something like 6 or 7, and I'm thinking I'll make a play after the flop comes low cards, or take him for it all if I hit my set. He was really tight, so I put him on A10-AK probably suited cuz the kid loves the suits.Anyway, flop plays out K 10 7 rainbow. I didn't love the flop because I put him on at least middle pair, but I bet out to feel him out. I think I threw out about 12, he instantly reraises 12, that bet is screaming K to me, I quickly call. Turn comes a 10, I check. He bets the pot, and I give him the stare "all in"Oh you should have seem him squirm, it was classic. "Man, son of a..you don't have a 10, shyt, you have a set of sevens?? blah blah blah blah" Panties all in a bunch. Meanwhile I'm sitting there thinking "act weak, he'll think you're strong". Actually I was trying to remember if I took the over/under on the bucks game earlier, but I digress. So he whined about my horrible call preflop with "probably 10-2" and how the min re-raise of 12 should have got me to fold the flop..lolHe folds AK (suited mind you, lol) face up, and I muck my hand raking the decent pot!HAHA, Yeah RIGHT! I rubbed those threes all over the felt did a little dance, made out with his girlfriend, stole his dog. LOL, nah but it was classic, needless to say he was steaming after that, didn't last too much longer. No doubt the best hand I've ever played.

I don't really like that play. If you knew you were a huge underdog to a strong hand why would you call?

i know this sounds unbelievable, but i will try to find the HH in my PT. so i have about 4k hands played with a player, and i know him VERY wellhe is a nut peddler(he does very well as i have him at a large winrate on pt,this is 100NL btw) this is he only raises AA-99 and AK, he reraises 1.5 your raise preflop every time with them also if he has position. he limps with all smaller pp'smoreover, he NEVER plays big pots with high pockets unless it's preflop, he tries to showdown his AA and such for as little as possible, unless it's improved from a set or flush. anyways, i bump it up with TT from EP, and it is folded to him, he reraises me, so im pretty sure im dropping the hand unless i hit a big flop. anyways the flop comes T99, i lead out with a small info bet to see if he has his AK or higher PP, he pops me up 2x my raise! ok so he must have his AA, so i reraise him the minimum, thinking he will call my small raises down, but he reraises me his entire stack( he was up a buy in so 2 buy-ins!! WTF!?!?!?i have never seen him do this before and get that feeling in my gut, that i actually just got outflopped by quads. i took my entire time and chatted with him me: wow i have a really really good hand, almost the nuts...he responded: mine's ok  in the chatbox. i asked him if he would show, as i was folding TT which i knew was ****ing stupid, but i had that feeling...so he agreed to showhe showed down 99. i swear on my mothers grave, i will try to find the HH. anyways it was by far the best laydown of my life, and the best part was he showed, no one at the table believed that i layed down TT, but i know i did and thats all that matters. cheers.ryan.

So I play 4-8 at this local casino, and I play with this one guy, who's an okay player. he plays tight, and somewhat aggressvie. His biggest problem is that he tilts like crazy when he gets beat by ugly cards. If not for thjat, he'd proablly be a pretty good player. Not quite aggressive enough, but okay. I have played with him for proably 100 hours or more, so I know him very well. He's in the big blind, I'm on the button, it gets folded to the c-of who calls ( a terrible, LAG player), and I have j-8 suited, on the button, so I call ( I make very loose button calls in unraised pots in this game).sb folds, bb checks.Flop comes down 467 rainbow. bb checks, co checks, I bet, trying to steal the pot, thinking it was orphan. BB check raises, and I am like, okay, that's bad... co calls, and I call, with the intention of folding unless I improve on the turn. The turn pairs the 6. The bb checks. Now, this check here is what the whole hand was about. This check puzzled the **** out of me. There was literally no hand I could think of that he would check in this situation, other than a draw, that was a hand he would check raise with. I knew him. I knew he'd bet overpair, a seven, trip sixed, a straight sevens full and fours full in this situation. He wasn't THAT tricky of player, he wouldn't have gone for the check raise twice. Either he had quads, or he had a draw, is what flashed through my mind.. The Co Checked, and I slowly checked, as I was thinking, puzzled. The river was a duece. No flush, no nothing. The duece completed no draw. The BB bet out again, and the CO folded. I thought about it some more. I didn't think he'd check raise wit hace high on that board or big cards, without having a flush draw. He's isn't aggressive enough to C/R with ace high, and hif he had it, he'd have checked on the end, I think. The more I thought about it, the more I thought he had to have 98. it was one of theose either/or situations. either he hand 98, or he had the absolute nuts. So I called him. He said " you win.. " but didn't muck his hand. I said" Muck your hand, then.." and he said " if you can't beat this, you have problems.." and fliped over 98..... I said" that's exactly what I thoguth you had, and flipped over my jack high.. the dealer, a good player ( like the only dealer I've ever met who's a good player) and a friend of mine was like " What the HELL!!!" and the guy couldn't believe that I called, literally couldn't believe it. He went on wicked tilt after that, saying stuff like " keep calling me with jack high"...I've never called anyone with king high before, much less jack high. But the reason this is my favorite hand, is because I was really aboe to use logical analisyis of the player and his plays throughout the hand, to dictate my decision to call on the end. I know that in general that callign with j8 is - ev, and I've been flamed before talking about this hand. but this was the hand that made me believe I knew what the hell I was doing in poker, that I knew how to read people, and read actions and boards and play. It's given me amazing amount of confidence in myself.

I am playing a 50 dollar tournament (live) with rebuys at a club in nyc. We started with 500 in chips. I had a good early run and was 2nd in chips about 90 minutes in. Rebuy period is over. The chip leader is across from me at my table. I have about 6000 chips he has about 7500.He is UTG+1. Blinds are 50/100. He raises to 400. He is very aggressive and likes to bully the table when he has chips. I think he has a weaker hand than normal for an early position raise.Everyone fold to my in the cutoff. I have two jacks. I want to see how he wants to play the hand so I just call. BB who has about 3000 chips also calls. Flop comes 9 7 3 rainbow. BB checks. Chipleader makes a 1500 bet. I really think he is just decided to bluff this pot. Thats my read. So I just call. BB folds.Turn comes a Q. Crap. not a great card for me. and he moves all-in right away. Now I was 2nd in chips....only guy left in the tourney who can bust me moves all-in. I looked at him and I still thought he was just trying to take it away. I was tempted to fold but I said to myself if I want to win I have to call.I called. He says good call and shows A10. He is stunned when I flip over jacks. River is another 3 and I take a large chip lead.I went on to make the final 2 and I made a deal with the guy and won my biggest score at the time (14 months ago) of about 2800. (1st was 3300, 2nd was 2100...I got 2800 other guy got 2600.I was just able to trust my read and not be bullied because an overcard hit. It really gave me some confidence.

anyways it was by far the best laydown of my life, and the best part was he showed
Actually it was a pretty bad laydown. Nice results oriented thinking though.
Um, actually it's either/or. If you now your player that well, if he plays that robotic, then it's a wonderful laydown that's the product of paying attention to a player. I know some players whom I play wiht in live games, that will only make raises with the nuts.. and now matter how strong you think your hand is, if it's not the nuts, you need to lay it down.If you're laying down top full house alot, then yes, I'd say you're a fish. But there are no absolutes in poker, and saying "never laydown top full" is an absoulte.

30+3 6 handed mtt, and the background story is that I had just gone broke that week, I had a ticket to a 30 dlr tourney, and all my poker accts were at $0. 1st prize paid like 1,700. I dont remember the blinds but it there were 8 people left, 4 on each table I was like 3rd in chips and I get AsKs utg. I raise std 3x bb. the button had me covered.flop is 9s 10 3 (rainbow), I bet 3/4 the pot, and he thinks about it and calls. turn pairs the 3 and puts a spade ( dont remember if it was a 3 but it was a low card) and now gives me the nut flush draw.I bet 1/2 the pot and he calls, river is a brick 5h. I check to a huge pot but with enough chips to play, and he immediately pushes me all in. I thought about all the options ( A10 reraises the flop, A9 checks the river. pkt pair checks too.. etc.) I put him on QJ and I make the call for all my chips. I cripple him and take the chiplead. I didnt win the tourney but I got 2nd which was enough for me to build my br back up.

Happened yesterday. I laid down a set of queens face up in a 1/2 limit cash game, and told the guy I knew he had hit his set of aces on the turn.It wasn't a great laydown. I think that any reasonable limit player would've picked up that this guy had aces in the hole. I hit my queen on the flop and capped it, but then the ace came on the turn and I laid it down.

ummmm yeah.. I don't know that this is true. Did NO possiblity of AK, under set, AQ, or kk exist? I think if you felt that strongly he had AA, that you just should have called him down. How can you be that sure of ANYTHING in 1/2? I think this is a terrible lay down, way worse than the 10 10 lay down.

Yeah, I agree, you should pretty much never lay down a set in a limit game unless there's a straight or a flush out there. Especially not in a 1/2 game. Even if you're going against someone who's extremely robotic, there's certainly enough of a chance of 2 pair or a lower set that it's worth calling 2 big bets.As for the other big laydown in the thread, (the top full house against quads), I think it was a good one. There's certain players that will only play the nuts a given way, and you were up against one. I was in a similar situation the other day, (had top full house and conservative player pushes all-in for two buy-ins), and I called, but if I'd really thought it out, there was no other hand he'd play that way. Of course, it's hard to gather enough information to fold the second nuts in the 45 seconds or so that you get online playing a cash game, but if you made that read, then good for you.

I was in the small blind after a bunch of limpers just called. I had 3 6 off and just limped(this was a loose game)BB checked and the flop came:J36I checked my bottom 2 and the BB (a super aggressive player) bet out a medium bet.The limpers folded and i raised it about 3 times his bet.He then moved all in (no surprise. this was what i expected him to do, as he had moved all in over many of my bets that night and previous nights)I nearly called, but decided to think about it.This guy had moved all in over the top of most of my bets, so I was pretty confident that I had him here, but you can't be to careful. While I was in the tank he was showing his cards to the person next to him, and the table was on me for not acting, but I was still thinking. Everyone at the table was telling me to call, but then the BB said "He won't call, he never does." I thought this would be a funny thing to say if you didn't have bottom two pair beat. I eventually ended up folding, and BB later told me (and this was confirmed by the guy he showed his hand to) that he had JJ. He really played this hand bad before the flop by just checking in the BB with JJ if he wasn't lying, but I believe it (This guy sucks lol).

i know normally it's a horrible fold, but like i said, i've played thousands of hands against this guy and he plays ROBOTIC, also this isnt 1/2 holdem, this is 100 NL... and the bet was like 150 more to me, and like i said he's a nut peddler. i've never folded a hand like that, nor do i plan on doing so again hopefully. but when you've played so many hands with someone and know they wont stack themselves without the NUTS, then it isnt as fishy as it seems. i woudl think it was a dumb laydown if someone else told me about it, but since i was there and had the experience with him, i felt it was the right thing to do.also im a fish, anyone from strat will tell you that, lolcheers.ryan.

isn't this pretty much the exact story Doyle gave on his best ever hand?
