I've heard good things about Wilson's Turbo Poker (I think it goes for $50-80). You can download a sample from their site.I've never played on the program so you may want to do your research.

Ann - or anyone else who uses Poker Academy - what do you think of this software? Can you offer some specifics regarding if and how it's improved your game? There seems to be a great deal of statistical analysis offered, but I'm guessing that a player can get most of that from pokertracker. I'm wondering if the software actually provides a deeper analysis as opposed to just spitting out stats...Thanks in advance...

I have Wilson's Turbo Texas hold em and it is a good program if you are learning the basics of limit. It does have a TON of additional information you can get through running simulations/playing different personality types and all kinds of other statistical analysis. If you are wanting no limit advice it does not work in a no limit facet which sucks...but as far as limit it can help. The only thing I don't like about it is after a while I figured out how to kill the program because it doesn't adapt very well. If for instance you use Phil Helmuths play like the pros strategy (which sucks in real life) you can kill the computer players. I recommend the program if you are interested in learning the math part of the game extremely well...otherwise buy a book it is much cheaper.

Get the Wilson programs. I have both the Turbo Texas Hold 'Em (which is limit only) and the Tournament version of the same program (which handles no-limit and pot-limit). Both are excellent programs, though the interface for them is nothing to look at and isn't completely intuitive. The programs are very flexible and allow for quite a bit of customization. They allow you choose from a range of "typical" line-ups (low limit loose-passive, low limit loose-aggressive, tough, tight, etc.) or create a custom line-up. They allow for pretty complex statistical simulations (for example, how a certain hand will fare from a certain position against multiple players versus one player, run 10,000+ times). The auto-advisors are interesting to use, as well. You can enable a feature that recommends a play based on your position, number of callers, your hand, etc.. This makes it easy to compare your inclinations/decisions against the "correct" play (which is, in my judgement, often WAY too tight). You can also very easily get stats on each decision within a hand on your pot odds, expectation (+ or -), etc..As I said, the programs are solid and can definitely help you find and fix leaks in your game. However, be advised that the programs are not the most user-friendly ever (you can tell a programmer wrote 'em, not the marketing people), and they are price. The limit version is about $90 from what I recall, while the tournament version is about $60.Good luck.

I'd recommend poker academy. The AI in poker academy is unquestionably the most advanced - the result of a decade of university research by a renowned comp sci games group. The poker bots in the program are quite impressive and will adapt a great deal to your style of play in order to beat you. You can fill your table with different types of bots and adjust their style of play and thier intelligence. Some of their 'simpler' AI was licensed for DN's XBox game stacked. The user manual is weak but the people that develop it run a forum to answer questions you have on the program - so support is amazing. They are working hard at advancing the software and put out regular updates/patches.The limit computer player/bots are quite good. The No limit bots were just developed not that long ago and are not as strong but the group is working hard to develop better NL poker bots. Also, as a result of lots of online player requests through the forum, they are working hard on developing bots which accurately reflect 'human' players. i.e. calling stations, maniacs, etc.
