how many live game players are on this site

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering how many of you play live and/or percentage. Since I started playing online this year I have found that the swings in my BR are much larger than when I played live. It just seems that with the online sites almost everyhand one player has a big hand and the other player turns or rivers the NUTS.I have played 1000's of hours of live and never seen the hands and money swings on a daily basis that I do online. I am not complaining as it goes both ways, either winning or losing. I just wonder if playing online may be hurting my live game. Just wondering your thoughts.By the way new to posting on the forum. Thanks

Expect someone to post a link to show you where to buy a tinfoil hat.You see more hands per hour online than you do live, thats why you think you see things you wouldnt in online play.Yesterday playing live, I had pocket kings cracked by 74o after a 8x BB preflop raise. I have never had that happen online. It's just poker.

I tend to play better live. I love reading people. I am also concentrating a lot more on the game.Online, I suck. I read this forum. I do laundry. I talk on the phone. It is so hard for me to concentrate.Welcome to the forum.

Without seeing you play, here's my thoughts:Live play DIFFERENT from online. You are generally equipped less (reading tells, table image use) and you are playing many more hands online.Depending on the limits you play and where you play I have different answers for what may be going on besides those broad generalizations. It seems that your skill level at live and online are different. Or you are experiencing bad luck.

I'm not sure where you believe this is coming from. You will need to explain better if you really want an answer.Again live and online are different games. Play them differently as if you would play a 2-5 NL table at Bellagio and the 4-8 Limit at Aladdin.

I dont play often anymore, but when I do I play live (I'm not in Houston anymore and there's a casino down the street). In my opinion, live players are way more passive and straight forward than their online counterparts. The amount of players to the flop is about the same, but in live play it seems like I'm seeing a lot fewer raises (on every street) and fewer plays like the check/raise, slowplaying, or raising for a free card. When a street gets capped, it seems downright unusual. And I've rarely seen situations where multiple streets were capped. I see a lot of people fold to the slightest hint of aggression.Online players seem much more likely to kick the aggression back at you and just go crazy at times.Maybe it depends on where you play, or it could be my imagination of course.

I probably play live less than 20% of my total play. When I play online, I'm more focused and it's more of a money making mission. Most of the time I play live it's a friendly game to I don't really care if I win $20 or lose $20. And when I'm in Vegas, it's my vacation, so I get really drunk and usually make a donation. Also, I second the notion that it seems like you see more strange things online because of the increased number of hands.

Doesnt make much sense to all the people saying that the swings are worse because you see more hands.shouldnt the use of multiple tables and more hands per hour mean that as a winning player, you're winning more often because of this opposed to live?anyways, I play 70% online - 30% Live, and at the casino i can tell you that its a heck of a lot easier to win because people are there to "Gamble", and have fun, and drink and its a heck of a lot easier to spot out who knows what they are doing, and who is more concerned with his wife who keeps coming in every 15 mins.

Well a few things to think about, depending on what levels you play. Online if you are talking about $5 and $10 sngs or MTT, then you will see more of the crazy calls than what you will live. It's a lot easier for somebody call you with crap and suckout online than when they are sitting in front of you.But like others have said you see so many more hands online than you do live.I play live 75% of the time, with only 25% online, but I see so many more hands online than I do live.Live you also have the advantage or reading people a lot more, this is big for my game.

I use to play a lot more live than I do now. For two years i only played at my local B&M but since i deposited on Party i would say i have played 90 percent of my poker online with a variety a diferent games while the ten percent at the casino has mostly been 40 dollar no limit tournies.

I play live exclusively. I like the feel of chips, the physical act of playing. Definitely puts me in a more regimented mindset. Online doesn't seem real to me, and I can't look at a player, watch his fingers as he bets, etc. Live just puts me into the ambience far better. And I like coffeehousing with other players, passing time. Also, here's an important point. Obviously, I can gain more info live than online: is the player tilting? does he simply give a tight vibe by his chip stack, mannerisms, etc a la Caro? But also, my game is very much contingent on others' having info about me. I in turn can monitor who's been watching me play closely. Who saw me flash the raised 7/2 UTG. And if their faces consequently set like 'I'm coming for this dude now.' I can watch others, but I can also watch others watch me. Sounds like silly word games, but very true. Also, I fear I'd just go wild in the silicon ether online, so I at least control my compulsion to some degree by limiting it to B&M play :)And good NYC card rooms are proving harder to come by, so I generally stick to AC.

90% live, 10% online. The reason for bigger swings online than live is not seeing more hands, it's having a lower edge. If you still had a fair edge then seeing more hands would be a great thing, but the trade off is that you miss out on a lot of information online.

I dont play for real money online cause its RIGGED! Plus I agree with theresa on the fact that i dont pay attention and i actually get bored playing online. Lack of interaction i guess.

On average, about 90:10 online to live. I prefer to play live , however, and have made much more per hour and feel much more comfortable playing higher stakes live. Plus when the shit-talking starts it gets much more interesting! :-) You definitely see MANY more hands on the 'net regardless if you're playing more than one table, which can skew your perception of sites being "rigged." Nonetheless, I've seen some really sick things happen in live play. Going to the casino tomorrow....looking forward to playing some NLHE live and getting excited already! Don't let me stop at the blackjack tables on the way out! :?

I play NL live 3 nights a week and a NL tournament live every two weeks. I have tried playing online but I obviously don't have the discipline and need to work at my online play. Online it is easier for me to make a call with KTs to a 5xBB pre-flop raise as opposed to a live game. My biggest problem is that when I play live we are usually 8 handed or less allowing me to loosen up my pre-flop hands and play more hands. Online, it is usually 9 handed when I play and I just dont have the patience....
