1st of all, to win the ME these days, you need a lot more luck than you did back in the 80's and 90's. I thought the same until he had such a good showing this year. I'm not saying he's a top 10 player, but he's no donk either.

Dude, Raymer is a good player and a class act. He was lucky, but he realized that you had to get lucky to win. So I guess he maximized his chances by taking chances early to amass a huge stack, then dominating from there on out.

He's got the name and the results to cash in, so why not? It may not be the quality of the two Harrington books, but I'm sure he has some insight to offer.

There is nothing wrong with a little luck, we have all hit cards that we were lucky on. Raymer has skill and his hit a good streak of luck the last couple of years. I'd read the book.

I think last year you could have made a case he got lucky to win but after making a final table plus finishing 20 out of 5619 this year is enough to say he is a good tournament player.
not to mention he was beating the biggest game at his loacal casino (foxwoods 200/400 I believe) before all of his tourny success as well.

People hate him because lumped in with Moneymaker and pokerstars. he played great this year and last year but got more then his share of luck. I don't think i would buy the book but if it was given to me as a gift i'm sure i'd look through it.

Raymer is a genius at accumulating a deep stack in large multi-table tournaments. He honed this skill online, and it has translated well for him in live play. Of course you have to gamble and get lucky to win any poker tournament, let alone the main event. The truth is, if 95% of poker players got the same luck as Raymer had the past 2 years, their results would be NOWHERE NEAR Raymers. He is a world-class tournament poker player. Period.

Oh, 1 more thing I forgot. In last years main event, Raymer got "lucky" by winning more than his fair share of coin-flips. It has been well documented that Raymer hardly ever sucked out in 4 or 5 days of tournament poker. Winning coin flips doesnt make you a donkey, sucking out does.

I heard Raymer is going to write a book, and honestly i think if he does, and really takes the time with it (which i think he will/would) it would be one of the best tournament books out there....Not because i think he is the greatest player or anything, i just think he's good at analyzing and good with strategy, and seems like he would be very good at relaying that information on paper, and it would probably be a pretty fresh analysis of tournament play these days-P.
