help. i got my a$$ kicked tonight

Recommended Posts

I hadn't lost on NL cash games for 2 weeks. But tonight, I think the streak is going to end. It seems that I couldn't do anything right. I'm down $250 so far tonight and I don't know how I lost the majority of it. $250 is a lot for me.This maniac took a good portion of my money. It seemed that no matter what I did , I just couldn't beat him. He always took the money whether he had the best hand or not. I'm sure I had the best a few times of the confrontations but he still got the money. I'm usually not outplayed that badly but it seems that he did it. Here's the worst hand.I had seen maniac reraise someone to $40 on the turn when a 3rd heart hit the board so I knew he was capable of bluffing when a 3rd suit hit. Now, I wish I hadn't even noticed that. I had KKMe- $100Maniac - $100I raise to $5 preflop (it could have been $10)Maniac calls in SB All others foldFlop: 5c 5d JcManiac checksI bet $8Maniac callsTurn: X (can't remember) pot=$20 (I know pot was $20)Maniac checksI bet $20 Maniac calls (that surprised me actually)River: 8cManiac bets all-in $69What do I do now ? Is he bluffing ? Also, I need help with pocket pairs like 88 - TT when you call a 4x blind raise and flop comes all rags and you have an overpair but you are in EP and you have a very aggressive raiser in LP and it's just you and him. How do you play that ? It seems like I'm getting outplayed too often when I bet out in this situation even if I bet out pretty hard.

I think you have to fold there. There are to many hands that beat you. As for your other question. If they are that aggressive a check raise on the flop is always a good option. If you get reraised you can figure your probably in trouble. If you get called proceed with caution on the turn.

You know, in all fairness, we should have a strategy thread and possibly a bad beat thread so these things don't get put in the general forum. That way we can keep general open to homoerotic love fest threads and important announcements.

Thanks for the good words, Golden. Some nights on .50/1 NL , it's like everyone is a pro or something and other nights, I just clean up. Tonight I got killed. Every single time I got something, everyone folded and I got the blinds. I hit flushes and sets and straights but no one ever called another bet after I hit. I would have made more on .10/.25 NL tonight. I managed to make $80 of it back but tonight still really sucked. I finished playing the tightest 3 hours of my life just now and it sucked.

What Teph would do:1) Fold2) Log onto FullContactPoker.com and not call people ugly. (That's mean sir)3) Realize the importance of game selection4) Fold5) Not get upset over losing 2.5 buyins when playing NLHE (Happens)6) Find location of "Maniac" and kick his computer. You should Fold, river made an endless array of cards that beat you. In your mindset, I maybe would have called, losing another buyin. That would just be stupid and steaming in the long run. Unlucky but high pocket pairs are not the nuts. Hope it worked out for you.

I called and he showed ATs  of clubs.    If I would have just folded, I would have only lost about 1 buy-in tonight.
Had to figure he had clubs friend :club:. Best play is probably pushing the turn. Since he only called with a club draw out, I'd say he had the club draw, not the 5. Make him pay for the draw.UL but welcome to poker on the stupid internet.
