Recommended Posts

Would you check the flop in this position...if you knew you would get a bet on the flop, if not on the turn?? I will post the results of the hand, after a few replies have been made.Table '14496182 273' Seat #6 is the buttonSeat 1: bigslick886 (53936 in chips) Seat 2: Green Egg (90146 in chips) Seat 3: sam12 (292662 in chips) Seat 4: hempboy420 (12683 in chips) Seat 6: Chance77 (37880 in chips) Seat 7: WillieWink (27854 in chips) Seat 8: phillip_339 (86791 in chips) Seat 9: oilerfan94dm (36542 in chips) WillieWink: posts small blind 1500phillip_339: posts big blind 3000*** HOLE CARDS ***Dealt to phillip_339 [9c 8d 9h 3c]oilerfan94dm: folds bigslick886: folds Green Egg: calls 3000sam12: calls 3000hempboy420: folds Chance77: calls 3000WillieWink: calls 1500phillip_339: checks *** FLOP *** [5c 5d 9s]WillieWink: checks phillip_339: checks Green Egg: checks sam12: checks Chance77: checks

I think checking is a very bad play, common from hold-em players who move to omaha. What you want to do is try to think what people will think you have if you bet vs. check call or check raise. If you bet out, people will put you on a 5, which is what you want. You want A5 or K5 to raise you, then you can put them all in, and they can't get away. Betting out is the only way to get the money all in on the flop. Secondly, checking gives a chance for overpairs to catch up. An overcard coming on the turn significantly decreases the value of your hand, and all of a sudden you have to play the hand carefully rather than full speed.

I am only checking here with 55 in my hand. Hold'em and PLO are drastically different. If I was in early position, had a crazy player behind me, knew he would bet, thought there was a reasonable chance I would get heads up, and had a 5 in my hand, I might check, but I am usually potting it here. Don't get too cute with your bets because people will pick up on when you do pot, verse not potting.I agree with the comment above that potting somewhat conceals your hand.
