is this cheating? this got under my skin

Recommended Posts

OK... First I want to say is that lately a lot has been getting under my skin. I don't know if it is stress from work, hormones or that I am turning 40 in a few days. So, if I am OVER REACTING, just tell me.Home tournament Friday Night, a semi-regular player sits next to me. He is talking to me about all of the money he is making on a certain site. I told him how I do not do well online. He starts to offer to help me and he wants to know if I am on instant messenger. I am still niave at this point. I am thinking he wanted to critique my play, etc. NO. That was not the case. He continues to talk and he tells me how he "partners" with people online. They tell each other what hand they have etc. I told him this is collusion and something I would never do. In the conversation, he mentions a half a dozen or so people who e does this with who play in my Friday night game. At this point, I am getting upset. OK, I know it is niave of me to think that this doesn't go on, but I just can't believe someone is telling me about their own collusion efforts (he was pretty doped up, so that could be part of the reason). Then, the same guys goes on to tell me that he has partners at the home game and that there are several partnerships going on in this game. Now, the people who he points out are the ones that I have been suspicious of for several things but I didn't think they were partnering. But it is starting to make sense. I do well in the tournament (where they often get split up) but in the cash game, I have seen some really off the wall things happen. In fact, when this group of people are not there, I notice a big difference in the play at the tables. I just thought it was bad players who got lucky. How would this make you feel? Is this typical? I was so annoyed on Friday night.

First of all, it's naive, not niave. Secondly, how do they collude at the home game?Third, don't play with these people. They are cheaters. The most I will do at a casino is softplay a friend heads up by checking down. I wouldn't do it a home game. What would be the point of that? Have fun.

I'd want to dissasociate with those people from playing in my game personally....They'd probably cheat their mother out of a pot it sounds like, so why not you or anyone else....Is there no way to ban these guys, and tell them you dont trust them? Do you have any impartial dealers, or are the cards dealt by the players?btw, what does "doped" up mean he was using? :club:

Not only are they cheaters, but they're complete douchebags. Honestly, who cheats in a home game. Never play with these people again, and if you find out their screennames online, report them. Please. In fact, if you could, go undercover and find out who they are and report them all to the sites they play.

wow..annoyed isn't quite the word.I'd be looking for a new game and I'd also make sure a couple of the other people in the game, those who were both my friends and not involved in the collusion, heard about what was going on.

To think this doesn't happen all the time online...That is naive.I'm sure it does, especially at the medium/higherlimit tables. No point colluding for .25/.50 butat 3/6 and above, you could make some real cashdoing it.For this shit to be going on at a "supposedly"friendly home game...Sorry, but that's wrong. All you can do is not go back. These guys obviouslyhave gotten past the point where their conscience isbothered by the fact that what they're doing is immoraland they're not going to stop "partnering" in the game,so just be the bigger man and walk away.(how the hell do you "partner" in a home game anyways, and what is the point, especially among people you considerto be your friends??)

You have to watch out for those bottom feeders. It's sad that some people have to cheat to get ahead, there are cheaters in every game, every sport, every walk of life. Hopefully the poker gods will infest them with bad beats upon end, that and the fleas of 1000 camels asses.

I am not surprised he would try to get you to collude online, but to admit that while you are sitting at the same table as him that they are cheating you right now? that dude must have been doped up...

The funny thing is this guy doesnt think he's cheating. That's why he's so open about it.Seriously though, go undercover, get all their screennames and report them to the site. You would be my hero if you did that.

yes, this is cheating, and i would never play with these people again. if you can report their screennames that would be great and benefit other FCPers.who knows whether these idiots realize what they are doing is unethical and wrong. maybe they think poker is like "Survivor" and either you create alliances and survive or try to make it on your own and fail. anyway, you should get the hell away from them.

First of all, sorry about misspelling naive.I am a pretty trusting person. For a long time, I knew there was an element showing up to the game that I did not care for. However, I really had no clue of the scope of the activity. The group I play with has 50 plus players and the game on Friday night involves around 30 or so each week. There is a large core of honest trustworthy professional people who play at this game. Over the past year, a seedier group of people have migrated into the game. When I said doped up, I knew the guy was flying high because he said so and I saw him give another player a pill after they had a small spat. The guy who was saying everything to me kept going to the guy, you are my partner, now you burned me after losing a pot to a bluff. That is when he started telling me about the partnerships that go on at the game. Apparently, they have signals to give each other chips or something.I have no idea why this guy would ever think of me wanting to even have anything to do with their activity, on or off line. The only reason I can think of him telling me all of this is because he was so wasted.I will try to get their screen names. I think it will be hard for me to do so because I had such a strong reaction. However, I will report them. This is so unfair. And no, I will not be going to this home game anymore. I will go to the boat, I will go to Hard Rock and there are 2 other home games I will go to but I will no longer go to this one. Thanks FCPers. The guy was so cavalier that I was wondering if I was just completely clueless. He acted as if this goes on everywhere and that was the only way to play. I just gave him a look of disbelief and I kept hoping he would be out soon or that I would get moved to another table. Luckily, he was out of the tournament early but my skin was crawling the whole night.

There's only one solid solution. Cheat the Cheater. Fire with Fire. Learn to bottom deal and take his child support money so he's sent to prison for not paying. gl

i would never go back to that homegame for sure.i would've agreed to collude online to get the usernames and report them, simple as that.and i saw it mentioned above that no one cheats at the low limits. I will admit that I have colluded online. My friend and I did it at .5/1 (the lowest limit) once, to see how easy it could be done. our conclusion was that you'd have to be exceptional at it to really make a big difference. but it is probably also harder at low limits where it is not that likely someone will fold, even for two bets. the best we could do was trap players between us when one had a great hand, but if the sucker actually had the good hand beat, we'd be doubly paying him off.and before you all go reporting me, i did that once, months ago, and lost $6. it was only for research purposes.Cheers,Daniel
