Cucaracha73 0
Who needs the Chappelle when you have the WSOP?It all started episode #1 when a certain gentleman overcalled Farha and Negreanu with AJ on a 765 flop. Puzzled, I thought the guy must have been some eccentric, guy...but then they said he has some sort of non-millionaire occupation.Soon after, I saw a guy challenge Chrid Ferguson with a SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTED K9 that sucked out before getting re-sucked. I made a mental note to drink cautiously only when I was fast-forwarding my TIVO.Week #2 brought us the always entertaining Phil Hellmuth and the more entertaining "Jim Pittman" I loved this guy for ultimate fishitude. After cold-calling an all-in with J10 SOOOTED, he threw a verbal emper tantrum that forced ESPN's bleep department to work overtime. He threw this tantrum to protest the bad beat he took by cold-calling with a hand that would be ahead to NOTHING. I was more entertained when 2/3 of the table were outraged that Phil did not think it was a bad beat. Seriously...how can 2/3 of a WSOP table have such a non-existent understanding of the game?Jim Pittman then cemented his Hall of Fame status by putting a ridicoulous "I am not going to let Phill Hellmuth push me around with a big bluff..I am going to re-re-re-re-re-re-raise him all-in. I have KJ!!" bad beat on Phil. Phil did us proud in his response to Jim, but that paled to Jim, after throwing a tirade on his J10 "bad beat", called Phil a bleeping crybaby.Week #3 brought us emmy-caliber material for best Comedy Series.SCENE #1 - Steve Dannenman running to his cell phone as soon as he beats Lederer with a bluff. "I popped him $30,000 with 86...he loooks like his dog got kicked" Awww. good job Stevey...you are a tough guy accountant from Maryland. Seriously, I thought this guy was calling his Mom. Lederer doubling through him when he tried to be a big, tough blind defender later was priceless. Norman Chad: I don't see him calling on the cell phone now...hey I just pushed Howard in when he was a 6-1 favorite"Despite the humor, I began to get concerned about the final table. Dannenman is extremely unlikable and not in a funny Jon-Robert or Hellmuth way. They also had just shown Joe Hachem fresh off his casting call for the Rio production of Grease...combined with his failure to tip the dealers after his win, I am walking a path toward disliking the Final Table coverage.SCENE #2 - After a day 1 conversation with Jim Pittman, an inspired dude named Grolemund makes a power play at Lederer with the almighty KJsooted. Lederer makes a gutsy call with top full house and Grolemund reels. We pick up the scene as Grolemund enters a pot with extremely talented Joe Beevers. He does this with an all-in reraise exhibiting between 19-23 tells that he has AK. As all of these gestures are simply his thought process working and not an "acting" job, he clearly does not have a big pair. Beever makes the call, gettting 2 to 1.Mr. KJsooted expresses his astonishment. "I can't believe he made that call." Putting aside the fact that you are mocking a world-class player's play, you cannot complain about getting calls on hands like this when A) you just made a ridiculous play with KJ and B) you basically exposed your cards with your contortions. Always high comedy.SCENE #3 - Adam Friedman losing a pot with the 2nd nut flush. I actually felt bad for him because he got so upset...I am not laughing at that. It just really highlights how ridiculous some of the plays have been at this year's WSOP and how humorous the oblivious players have been at what they consider cagey moves. Putting your money in with the 2nd nut flush, especially when the guy could have the naked Ah, is not nearly that bad and I hope this player does well in the future.SCENE #4 - A montage of young gun chip leaders at the end of Day 2 shows Joe Stillman. Wait a second...the guy who called Chris Ferguson's all-in with K9!!!!! A chip leader? How? On second thought, maybe the WSOP is not funny.

Don Giovanni 0
haha yea good post. there have been a lot of funny moments in the main event so far. i think my favorite is stupid steve danimasldmasn calling someone on the phone after he bluffs howard. what a dick. then he gets pwned when HL doubles through him a few hands later. Swift_Psycho 1
Main Event certainly has been entertaining, I must say that. The joy I felt was indescribable when I found out that the fuzzy loudmouthed idiot was finally busted so I wouldn't have to listen to his idiocy anymore.
doubleatrain 0
SCENE #2 - After a day 1 conversation with Jim Pittman, an inspired dude named Grolemund makes a power play at Lederer with the almighty KJsooted. Lederer makes a gutsy call with top full house and Grolemund reels.Well done. That sentence made me giggle. :-) And I had the same reaction to Steven Dannenmann that you did...I really don't want to watch the final table once Mike Matusow and potentially Andy Black are eliminated. solo319 0
Wow great take on the main event I'm glad ppl "get it" watching this seems like a donk fest. Wait actually it like playing a huge field in a Poker Stars tourny.
gatortom64 1
True, but on PokerStars, you only have to smell yourself, not the competition!!!!!!
jeremyb311 0
Excellent post.I hope I am in the majority of people watching the WSOP who would say this:I would rather see top pros battling it out (i.e. Flack, Doyle, Flack, Ly in SH NLHE or Ivey, Williamson, Hellmuth PLO) for smaller prize pools over the ridiculous plays being made by some of the donkies in this years main event. Some of these guys I don't even think I need the pocket-cam for. They look they came straight out of (insert you casino's 4-8 LHE game here).Granted, I didn't play in the main event this year. So I guess these guys have something over me. I hope as the field narrows the donkies are filtered out.I do know that this hand transpires at the final table. flop is K highseat 1 checks (flopped 2 pair)seat 2 checks (flopped top pair BAD kick 7 or 8 I think)seat 3 bets with A high hoping to take it down on the flopseat 1 puts in a large check raise seat 2 pushes with his "monster hand"seat 3 foldsseat 1 callsI forget who was involved I was watching the live feed at a bar at Binion's.At the time I couldn't believe someone who had made it through that field would overplay top pair bad kick that much. BilliardsBoy 0
    Well said.I've said it since watching last years main event: I'd rather watch good poker over big money poker. I know that people say that this is what the WSOP is all about (anyone with 10K can play), but I'd rather have a smaller tourney with the pros having a real shot to watch. If you're calling people to let them know about ONE POT in the WSOPME that doesn't even make you chip leader or win you the tournament, you are an idiot. Foulky 0
Steve Dannenman looked like a real donkey... remembering that he finished runner-up really frustrated me as I was watching the telecast. But I was relieved when I remembered following the final table on cardplayer.com, and remembering how he donked off the World Championship to Hachem when he had over a 3-1 chip lead to start heads-up play, and in the last hand he called off all of his money drawing dead to a tie... oh there is justice in the poker universe! Aaron Canter had a MONSTER k3 on this hand. Also, the guy that almost busted Ferguson ended up finishing like 50th or something I believe, and steven dannedonk should have busted out 5th when he put all his money in with 2nd pair and then sucked out on andrew black in a huge pot.Dustin and Mikey at TV table together next week, should be fun to watch

Shizzmoney 0
I certainly wish they showed more of the better plays from the newer players in this year's episodes, rather than the just purely the donkish and "entertaining" ones. The whole Dannenman "lemme call my buddies about how I just bluffed Lederer" (he was totally giving away tells, too, btw.....looking directly at him when he checked, acting strong, smirking) was a jopke, along with ESPN showing scene after scene of that annoying guy who wreaked from England yelling and screaming at the top of his lungs. Who defends their blind with 68o? Who does that? I have the patent on "steve donkenman"...which is infinately funnier. That is pretty funny, btw. If they were going to show newcomers, I'd rather would have seen more hands from James Pollack, Pardey, etc. (who was even impressing Phil Ivey from his solid play)...granted, they showed a montage of his story, which is nice - but how about some hands? At least they were able to stick some of the more entertaining hands from some of the pros in there (Matusow, the Juanda and Farha suckouts). I want to see how the others got deep into the tournament. With all the donk and circumstance they show.........I often forget that ESPN is showing the WSOP sometimes. Isn't this a POKER show?
