is this middle school?

Recommended Posts

that doesnt mean u let it go without addressing it...no one running or owning a company generally lets their patrons abuse their employees.the tournament director simply adressed the issue, nothing more big deal...is it middle school?...Im sure some of the players were acting like it, who knows-P.

Then quote what you wanna talk about lol. If you quote something, I'm going to assume you're talking about that and not something else.
If you read again, the quote was relevant to the question. You made the statement about the way things are, and I asked if you were just stating that it was the way things were or if you actually agreed with it, as well.Sorry I confused you. I'll work on it.

I'm saying that rich or not, people feel they have the right to be rude and/or abusive to people who are serving/helping them. It is something you have to learn to deal with if you're going to join the work force.
Or maybe we could place the burden of behaving in a civilized manner where it belongs, with the abuser. Your logic is like telling a wife that she needs to learn how to duck and cover when her drunk husband comes home. Or telling a kid in South Central that he needs to develop bulletproof skin if he wants to go outside. How about if we put the blame on the wife-beater and the shooter, the ones in the best position to prevent the abuse by not starting it?OK?OK.Try my sausage and egg sandwich on an everything bagel.

Tried one in Gainesville, but we couldn't compete with the WaWa contingency. Day-old coffee is a tradition that is alive and well in your neck of the woods.

Just to clear this up, I never said that famous/rich people deserve to be able to treat workers like crap. I said that everybody rich or not feels they have the right to be rude/abuse people who are serving/helping them and that people have to get used.By the way, comparing rudeness at work to battered women is just absurd.

i agree, too many people now-a-days dont understand the value of success. i dont care if people think everyone is equal, we live in a society with a dollar value and those who pay that value should deserve special treatment.I had a few crappy jobs too, and sure i got into some tiffs with customers, but i was always the one to get in censored for it. I would love to know what it was about
I think I'll side with logic on this one. With regard to "It's something you have to put up with when you have a job," I doubt the waitstaff responded to an ad that said "WANTED: Punching bags who will dutifully absorb subhuman treatment" and magically found themselves serving buffet food. I'm pretty sure there's no equivalent clause in the employment contract either. As far as the comment that "we live in a society with a dollar value and those who pay that value should deserve special treatment"... First, for your argument to hold water, we have to define "special treatment" as incorporating a purchased right to treat other human beings as substandard by virtue of their relational value. Complimentary Evian and fresh mints are one thing; conferring the power to abuse others is another. Second, I believe the post said the buffet was FREE. So in light of the dollar value that these muckety-mucks paid for their FREE buffet ($0.00), it's safe to assume under your terms that they had no reasonable expectation of special treatment, i.e. the right to abuse others. Finally, I've worked for three years in a grocery store where I cleaned toilets and ripped asbestos out of the wall during renovations. I've bused at a Chinese restaurant. I've worked construction where many of my days were spent at the dump. I've nannied for a kid with cerebral palsy and had to wipe his ass. And now that I'm in law school and in a position to make six figures, I STILL don't feel like it signals a move up the social totem pole, by which I can abuse people who do the stuff I used to. Money is an incidental benefit of opportunities and career choices, not a measure of superiority. Save your caste system arguments for the crowd that made the Nanny Diaries possible. They're the only audience that will really connect. If I happen to be waiting tables, and you take jabs at me, you'll find a large serving dish up your ass regardless of whether you're a big-shot poker pro or a ditch-digger.OK, that's my rant... I recommend the Toasted Almond iced coffee today... special batch.
Well put, a very well constructed thought out argument (the provebial endangered species of this site)

That doesnt make it ok, you tell the staff to grow up, but regardless of whether or not rich/famous people feel they have the right, doesn't make it ok. One thing everyone should know is never mess with the people that are preparing your food. I have friends who have done some nasty shit to food, only because the person was an *******. Serriously nasty shit.

I recommend the Toasted Almond iced coWow. You wasted a lot of time with this pointless drivel. Sounds impressive but u missed a lot of key parts to your argument. The free buffet came with a entree fee price tag. One that you cannot afford.2nd The right to abuse?. where did anyone say the right to abuse?. No My sentence clearly states that we live in a class system society, where you can order a 50.00 steak, and send it back 3 times if the guy making 11.00 an hour to cook it, didnt cook the steak to your specification. if for some reason he is not capable of doing this task, I believe it is the patrons right to ask why?It is also in the best interest of the management to keep their staff friendly so these outbursts from customers dont happen. How many times do you see someone yelling at a store owner who works the cash themself?. hardly ever, because the owner wants to attract business, and the customer is always right. But switch the owner with a teenage kid who hates their job, and i'm sure a lot more F-ups and customer disatisfaction is going to occure.

i agree, too many people now-a-days dont understand the value of success. i dont care if people think everyone is equal, we live in a society with a dollar value and those who pay that value should deserve special treatment.
Are you serious?....Wow...... Maybe Im misunderstanding your point here so I'll give you a chance to explain, but are you saying in a sense that wealthier people deserve better treatment then others who are less fortunate/wealthy?P.
You'l give me the chance to explain?.. Pfff. sure thing Pee punk.No one deserves better treatment, but if you are paying 10k for an exclusive event, or hell lets say u pay 10K for a magic show, which also comes with free chocolate pudding. If all the chocolate puddings come with nuts, and you ask for no nuts, but they bring it with nuts anyways, i think you have the right to complain. You might think, who cares its just nuts?. But the point is the money factor. 10k is a lot of money, and not a lot of people could afford 10k for something like a magic show, so unless you get them their pudding with no nuts, i'd suggest the price be dropped considerably.you might also think, money doesnt give someone the right to yell, which u are correct on, but it does give them a status symbol. Its unfortunate that the world works this way, but its true, and these people (wealthy and famous, can and do get away with more than comon Joe)Not my idea, but thats how it goes

money is no reason to be a dick. Thanks anyway, Royal.Edit: that was with regards to the first comment, now that I've read the rest of it: You can ask for no nuts, and even complain when you get nuts, without being abusive.

yes, ill give you a chance to explain before I disagree with you or counter an argument when I am not even sure what your position is, and I simply wanted to understand...make sense?....thanks for coming off so arrogant though "pfffft""Complaining" about a service or product you get when you pay for it is one thing, but being a complete a.s.s, rude, or mistreating people for your own enjoyment/laughter is a complete other....None of us knows exactly what happened for them to make an announcement, but an intellectual analysis would tell us people were being out of line when it wasn't warranted-Nice analogy with the "chocolate pudding", "nuts", and "magic show" though...bwahaha

P.S ROYAL- you're counter arguments make it sound as if the players were complaining thier steak wasnt cooked medium rare, or there wasnt enough ice in the ice machine when they wanted a coke....It seems more approproate that they were just being a-holes for no other reason then being a-holes, and probably simply acting childish....not dissatisifed with a service-P.

Oh of course, which is why i didnt touch on the matter.I might look young for my age, but i wasnt born yesterday :club:. haha when debating something i like to steer off course a little to keep myself out of hot water. But i agree, i'm sure it was something radical which is uncalled for. But i was only arguing the fact that sometimes people can get away with this because of their social status. It doesnt make it right, and i'm not trying to argue that it should be right.just to clarify

I'm glad to hear that you don't condone the poor treatment of others, but can you blame people for construing the phrase "those who pay that value should deserve special treatment" as a license to be a jerk? Maybe you meant to say that this is how some people think, but you didn't put it in that context.P.S. My arguments are waterproof, and the point about the buffet actually costing the entry fee is erroneous. The buffet is itself a courtesy. It is not a requisite to the entry-fee. You might argue that the players have a reasonable reliance on it as a matter of custom, but the fact remains that the buffet is a nicety ... a benefit conferred as a "gift" that may be withdrawn at any time without refunding the buy-in. Therefore, it is free. Therefore, under the premise that assigns dollar values entitling one to mistreat others, the entitlement in the buffet case is zero. Also, the hazelnut turbo ice was a bit watery tonight. Ask for no ice.[/i]

You have ZERO... ZERO. evidence of this. For all you know the sign up table could have a sign saying "diner included" I've played many sporting events, charity events, etc... when meals are included it is because the tab was added somewhere in the fee.If you can prove that the buffet was an added "nicety" for good behaviour among poker "inmates" than i'l retract my statements, but for now, stay in school kid.You might make a half decent lawyer if you do

I'd just like to stop and welcome DunkinDonuts to the forum. KowboyKoop should take a lesson in putting thoughts into one's posts. In other words, it's nice to have a newb that isn't such a newb. The drink recommendations might get to be a bit much, but I digress...

If you read Steve Hall's blog on PokerPages.com, I think he assumes the buy-in is the buffet, and that poker is just something to do in between the courses. So far he's not helping my cause. One point for Royal Tour, although I'd like to point out that I only cite Steve Hall for lack of a credible witness.
