Some advice on this hand?

Recommended Posts

I was playing in my local card room last night in a $1-$2 no-limit game. Had been playing for about four hours and was about to leave when this hand came up. I was two off the button and had 6 :club: ,6 :D . Four people had limped for 2 dollars so I thought I would make it 10 to go hoping they would put me on some big cards and I would get paid if I flopped a set. The button called as did the BB and another caller in middle position. I was very familiar with all the players at the table and knew how thay played. The flop came: 2 :) 6 :) 8 :D . No real trouble and looked like a dream flop. The BB comes out firing and bets $25. The middle position player folded. I knew the lady, yes even worse it was a women, but I knew her well and knew she would make this bet with an overpair and thought she may of been slow playing or trying to slow play, queens, kings or even aces. So I just smooth called. I told myself if the turn wasn't dangerous, that I would put a nice raise in right there thinking she would bet it. The turn brought the; J :). She starts counting out chips and bets $75. I have about $180 left in front of me and I just move in, thinking she is still trying to protect some bigger pair then jacks. Well she instantly calls and turns over: J :) ,J :D . That was that for me and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I realize thats not a bad beat, she had the best hand pre-flop, but had I not hit my set I wouldn't of even been in the hand after the flop and her bet. Not to mention she hits the dream card on the turn. Is it just me or would just about anyone in the world go broke for those lower stakes and with that kind of a hand situation?? I just can't lay a set down there, I don't know who would...Not looking for shoulders to cry on, but was there anything I could of done?

no, there is nothing you could have done, EXCEPT, raise the flop. But you are probably being called anyways.set over set sux. and happens about 1% of the time.learn to deal with it, or bounce.- Jordan

I hear you on that...However we were short handed, I think there were 7 of us, and I had some respect from the players. I got what I wished for when I hit the 6...She hit the dream on the turn...

ok, id probly not raise preflop there , because you are just going to lost that ten dollars 6 out of 7 times, but its not that bad a playanyways, if you put her on an overpair, why dont you reraiser that flop?all calling is going to get you is that you give her a card to suckout, or a scare card that might make her fold. You didnt play it badly, and even if you played differently, you would have been sucked out on.But those are just some suggestions
