alternative hockey league

I've been really disecting this league lately and think it is awesome. I really like The Screaming Eagles and the Big M's. All things considered, I think they have the strongest teams. Sorry Daniel! I would love to get in on your league, but from what I understand there is a rather large waiting list. So, I am seriously considering starting my own. I have a few questions. Any answers are greatly appreciated.1. Upon starting the league is the same format used where every player is bid upon or was a draft used and then salaries determined?2. Is it possible to run a league like this without having to get together in person? i.e MSN, webcams, email 3. Who holds the money and how are fees collected?more later....Thank you!

"Ditto - though would it be too late for this year?"Is it possible to run a league like this without having to get together in person? i.e MSN, webcams, email "And/or chating over ventrillo/teamspeak"Who holds the money and how are fees collected?"League commissioner I guess - doing this only I suppose Paypal would be the way to go.

monkey:To answer a few questions for you:1) because we have very little turnover and all know each other, we collect and pay each year at the draft. For the most part this makes things easier on us and no one in particular needs to worry about holding the cash2) As far as the auction is concerned it is obviously better to all be together, but can likely be done over msn or something similar as long as everything is organized well3) If you are going to run one, be prepared to give up about an hour a day and 3 hrs on game days.4) you will also need to be extremely organized as far as getting things posted. Part of what makes this pool fun is the fact that everything is updated in a timely fashion. Although I occasionally get slightly behind, scores and standings are generally posted within 2 hrs of the last game of the night ending. I use, microsoft access, combined with frontpage for our webpages , in addition we have our own domain and use EZBOARD for team forums. Updon the completion of each game, I update and upload no less than 200 pages of information. Also, as commissioner, my one piece of advice is stick to your guns. If lineups are to be in at 6:00 pm then that is the dealine - 6:01 means it is late and there can be no exceptions. Owners will learn to get things in on time the hard way but things will run better because of it.If you have any other questions feel free to e-mail me at:sleuthis@rogers.com

The Mustangs are 2-0, yes that's true.  The Mustangs will also be 15-19 in a little while, good for yet another third place finish in the division.  How is your boy DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZZZZE doing?  he's hurt?  No way.
Daze man im from Chicago I remember everyone hyping to the next Lindros man what a dissapointment. I have never in my life seen a softer big man

Hmm, that seems rather excessive; though I do notice that you've used static HTML for all of your web pages. In theory if there was an NHL xml stat feed around somewhere in theory it should be mostly automatable...

Even if it was, it would take a lot to use it, since lineups differ from day to day etc. Most of the reports are create via Microsoft access, which currently is just the easiest to use. It keeps things fairly well organized for me - the pages themselves arent difficult to maintain. Just time consuming since there are so many.On top of that - there is rarely a day that goes by without at least one roster change - each roster change is 4 reports being updated. And that is assuming these guys have done things correctly - its amazing how often guys will pick up a player who is already taken or move a player who had already previously been moved etc

Friday, October 7th, 2005, 8:57 AMHe must have been thinking about it all night, probably didn't sleep at all.
My timestamp says 12:57pm. Regardless, that was when I had internet access at work so I was probably online at both times. :club:

Rate this trade:Team A receives:David SteckelBrian Lee2nd Round PickAlexander RadulovTeam B Receives:Derrick Brassard..Notes:Radulov is signed for 5 years fairly cheap ..He is on the exempt list and the earliest he can be used is October 2009.Discuss

Steckel: ???Brian Lee: I've heard mixed things about him.. anywhere from he's a potential 60-pt d-man that's NHL ready to a disinterested lazy ass. Tim Murray has indicated that he took his demotion back to Bingo pretty hard. Have him in my non-FCHL keeper but I'm treating him as a borderline keeper.Radulov: Really depends on the economy / how fast the prices for oil turns around. I've heard some of the teams in the KHL will be declaring bankruptcy so players might come back to the NHL -- I'd willing take the gamble if he's cheap.Brassard: Huge potential but assist man.. (his shooting % of 17.02 isn't sustainable..) and his injury history has question marks.

comes down to team needs. I would take Brassard, best player in trade, I usually believe in getting best player in trades. But if I was lacking in assets, I'd probably be willing to take the risk on a 2nd rounder+Radulov, and hope Lee becomes the player SOME think he will. But my inclination is to go to Brassard side.
