what type of cards do you play in your home games?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering what kind of cards you guys use at your home games - I usually play the Bee's that they sell at Wal-mart, which are great for about 45 minutes and then they kind of go crap on you.. But for 2 bucks a pop, they are the best quality I can find around here in stores.. So I'm looking to upgrade to some 100 percent plastic cards.. I've played with some type of Kem's before at a friends house, and they're amazing.. I was wondering if anyone has bought any cheaper versions though, as some of them can be kind of expensive (though i guess they last long enough to be worth the price in the long run).. Some people on ebay are offering "Prestige Pro's" for 10 bucks for a set of 2 -- They look pretty good, and have good reviews from buyers, but I was wondering if you guys had any input on them or other KEM "knock-offs".. Thanks for any input..

My home game rocks the WPT brand of plastic cards. We've been using the same two decks for about 6 months now, no damage whatsoever. I think my roommate got them from the local poker store for free, I would imagine any poker-centric store would have them. Bottom line, plastic cards are well worth the investment, you'll replace 50 decks of paper cards before you need to replace one (good) plastic deck.

Our home game used strictly KEM cards for years, until an unfortunate accident destroyed all our decks. After trying some of the new KEMs and various other plastic and paper cards, we've settled on Copag. You can find them on ebay for about $15 for 2 decks, and they are every bit as good as older KEM cards. Great feel, and good durability, we've had them for 4-5 months now, and they still feel like new. Definately my reccomendation.

Care to elaborate? Are they all sticky now?

we always break out a couple of decks we bought in vegas, and used from casinos. they got a cool logo on the back and are sturdy. the only suckage part is the cut in the corner.

:club: yeah that's kinda strange... what sort of accident are we talking about?
I made the mistake of letting Ron and Royal play their version of "Stud". Apparently, it wasn't poker they were talking about (and they didnt invite me either.... ****ers).Actually, the truth is really sad. We let a rookie host for a couple weeks, and he overheard that KEM cards are washable. So, he tried to do the game a favor and wash the cards during the week in-between games. Apparently he didnt read the directions, because he PRE-SOAKED the cards. Needless to say, we ended up with 6 decks of obscenely warped KEM cards. In his defense, he bought beer for the entire game the following week.

That better have been Sam Smith, Chimay, or Lambic... or he still owes you guys.
none of those, but microbrew flows extensively here in Seattle. I believe he provided several brews from Sierra Nevada, Deschutes and Full Sail Breweries. The swill of choice is Pabst BR - a good switch to make if your drive home looms soon in the future.

Sierra Nevada and Pabst are both big out here in central PA as well... I've heard good things about SN, but PBR is garbage.. I don't understand how this beer competes with the likes of High Life -- the champagne of all things, not just beer. This should be the beer miller sponsors poker with, not that crappy Beast Light..

has anyone bought these cards on ebay. It says thier cards are 100% PVC plastic, same as KEM cards. For $10 I think it is worth it even if the cards end up being junk. http://cgi.ebay.com/36-DECKS-100-PLASTIC-C...1QQcmdZViewItem
I could be completely wrong, but these appear to be bridge-sized, and not the poker-size that most live players prefer. the difference is only 1/4" on the width, but its enough for me to wwant to pay a bit extra. Just my 2 cents.

might be worth buying a set.. my guess is that they aren't very good -- but even 36 decks worth of bad cards might be worth 10 bucks...

check out www.homepokertourney.com for a review on cards.Personally I use the Kems and love 'em. Have also used the Royals but I think they feel more like plastic and they don't slide across the table as well, so you need to throw them harder or players are constantly reaching out to get their cards.

Is High Life a Blue Ribbon award winner? I rest my case...

I prefer the bridge size. I think they're easier to handle
