anyone played the 15/30 game at artichoke joe's?

Recommended Posts

Anyone played the 15 game at Artichoke Joe's in San Bruno (near San Francisco for those non-bay area folk)? I would rather play there since it's closer to my house, but they don't spread anything similar to 10-20. Lucky chances spreads 9/18, which was excellent, but it's a longer drive for me.

I have not played the 15/30 there, but 6/12 quite a bit. I also haven't been to AJs in about 4 months, but then they were lucky to get a 15/30 table going. Sometimes they do manage to get 2 going, but it doesn't last very long. The one thing I dislike about AJs is their lack of different games and levels.

Any comments about the 15/30 from what you've seen? I'm sure the 6-12 is fantastic there if it's anything like the 6-12 at Lucky Chances. But yeah, the main reason I haven't frequented AJs yet is because they only have 23 tables total, and they don't spread a bunch of limits. Do you play at Bay 101 now, or just online?

I've been playing strictly online for the past few months. Prior to that I was playing at lucky chances a lot.Yeah, 23 tables with about 6 of those being nofoldem 3/6 tables, 2 being 6/12 and 1 being 15/30. The rest stay pretty much empty cept on the weekends or are used for tournies. The main thing I noticed about the 15/30 game at AJs was that the players were always the same. So, the disadvantage to you would be that they all know how each other plays and you'd have to take some time to adapt. If you have the bankroll and confidence in your game then go for it.I'm right at the 101/280 split, so both are about the same distance away for me. I say more choices in table selection might be worth the extra little drive for you though.

sorry, dont mean to hijack the post or anything but...I just moved to SF about a month ago and went out to check out the lucky chances casino. I played the $3/$6 games over there and was able to make a killing. B&M is so much better than online...anyway, I was thinking about trying out the $6/$12 but was too scared to put the money up and was afraid the competition would be a lot harder than the $3/$6. Is it? Also, I think a friend and I are going to try out the $50+$15 tournament tomorrow (monday), any of you going to be there?

The 6/12 is much better than the 3/6 IMO. You have to pay $3 on the button at both 3/6 and 6/12, so I find it better to play the 6/12 to offset that jackpot payment. I find the 6/12 to be more beatable than the 3/6. Some of the players at 6/12 are a little more sophisticated, but not much. The NL games are cake, but the structure is so much better online, it just doesn't seem to be worth playing there anymore. On that note, I'm really jonsing to play live though, I like the action in the casino.

yeah had no idea what was going on when the dealer told me I had to post a $3 blind on the button. I argued with him that I wasnt the big blind yet and didn't have to post anything... looked like a total jacka$s. so the $6/$12 games are better huh...think im going to give it a run if I have another good session at the $3/$6. anything particularly different though, tighter/looser, more aggressive, anything, thanks for the info btw.aloha

both the 3/6 at AJs and lucky chances is a joke. If you are not catching cards, the dealer posts will wittle your chip stack down. I personally believe that that game is not very beatable. The players play all sorts of strange and losing hands and tend to draw out a lot. I would say play in it if you have a large bankroll and have had a good run. If you catch cards in that game, you can get paid off nicely if you dont get drawn out on. The 3-6 at Lucky Chances is a better game than at Artichoke Joes plus everone at Ajs' is extremely lowlife and are all addicts. Its a depressing atmosphere honestly. The no limit game at Lucky Chances can be very profitable, again, only if you have a large enough bankroll. The 6 dollar half hour charge is a bit ridiculous if you account in the dealer post they make you post. It is a strange structure in that you have to come in for 4 even though the blinds are 1-1-2. Players call down a lot. Preflop raising like crazy.. 6/12game is just as bad.If you want to make an easy killing, go to Harveys Lake Tahoe and play int he 5/10 Fk game.

Yeah, after playing 1/2 and 2/4 NL online, I find it difficult to play the 112 NL at LC or AJs. $100 max with a $4 bring in, a $6 fee every half hour and dealer tips vs $200 max with a $2 bring in, no button blind and no dealer tips. The rake isn't so bad and you gain points for tournies and shirts and hats and shit. Aaaaaaaaaaand you can multi table.I love live poker, but I love money more at the moment. The 6/12 game is slightly less loose, which means that the gigantor pot you built with a set of kings won't get scopped by the old lady greasing up the cards while eating shrimps who caught the straight on the river holding 74 offsuit.I waited for her shrimp eating ass in the parking lot with a baseball bat, but she never came out.

hey, sure. i'll just not play in the game because "I personally believe that that game is not very beatable. The players play all sorts of strange and losing hands and tend to draw out a lot."yeah... fuck that... i never want to have someone in my pot with "losing hands".

With regards to the question about LC's 3/6 v 6/12, I think the 6/12 is very beatable. I haven't played the 3/6 there mind you, but I can assure you that the 6/12 is just as beatable as any 3/6 game I've played anywhere else. If I had to qualify the difference between the players I saw at 6/12 and 3/6 players from elsewhere, I would say that the 6/12 guys are a bit less clueless. They have a better conception of preflop hand selection and are thus a bit tighter pre flop, but are just god awful post flop. They call with TPTK or BPTK all the same. They are a passive bunch by and large. The guys who make a killing there are pretty easy to spot. They occassionaly say "raise." I love live play. It makes me OK with quitting online poker for the time being. -Matt

Zee over at 2+2 said You could clean up at 9-18 at BAY 101 (if You don't suck). If You can make it down to San Jose sometime.I'm going to hit up BAY 101 soon I think, I havent decided 6-12 or 9-18. I'm a little underrolled for 9-18.
