ted forrest is a beast

Recommended Posts

I would have to go:1. Phil ivey - this kid is amazing at all games and is just relentless.2. Ted Forrest - might have more gamble in him then anyone and just knows how to play the games.3. Jesus - all this guy does is cash and make final tables. It seems like this guy makes every final table. He plays all the games in tournies and succeeds. just a humble opinion.

ferguson had more cashes... who won more money at tournies though =/
According to the Hendon Mob Database, that would be Ferguson....I believe I already said that......man, you should really start reading my posts sometimes instead of just automatically criticizing me....

am I the only one......who thinks it funny that everytime cardplayer releases an article about a player (the case this time) or someone wins a WPT event (grinder)there is an immediate post about how he is the best ever, or a beast, or the man.The media is controlling you...
Anyone who thinks the Grinder is good should never risk money playing poker.

he has won the big one.
Ferguson is awesome all right, but winning the big one really wouldn't be any type of deciding factor as to whether or not he is better than Ivey at tourneys.
that is not the only reason I feel Ferguson is best. He has been at a lot more final tables than Ivey in the past few years. When is the last time Ferguson was in a "slump?"
I'm not arguing who is the better tourney player. I'm saying that winning the big one adds no real argument to the "Ferguson is better" side. That's all.As far as him doing better at tourneys, that isn't surprising at all. And it's not because I necessarily think Ferguson is better. Ferguson seems to concentrate a lot harder on tourneys. Ivey probably doesn't play as many and also doesn't try as hard (early on) because he's got a pretty nice cash game to go play if he busts out.

Fair enough. I agree with your points, that is exactly why I say Ferguson is a better tourney player. I never said he was a better poker player in general.

I hope not becaus ehe doesnt even play in cash games. Ivey dominates both, so its really hard to say that Ferguson should even be mentioned in the same breath as Ivey in discussing best poker player generally.

in last years WSOP, there was a stud tournament that got down to Forrest, Men the Master, and Chad Brown. That hand where Forrest had a pair of deuces to start and never improved, Chad Brown bet on every street and Ted called him down with his deuces and won the pot. Absolutely a sick read and call down. When Ted flipped the deuces for the win, Men and Brown looked absolutely spooked.

and that is why, in my first post on this thread, I clearly stated that I only take issue with the fact that he said that Ivey was a better tournament player than Ferguson. I know Ferguson hardly plays cash games. Once again (not saying you did this, but in general) people are not reading my posts and are instead just flaming me for no reason.

Am I the only one here who thinks Ted Forrest is probably the best player in the world? If not the best, top 3 easily. This guy consistently makes dead on reads. He might not be human and should be caged immediately. Alright everyone lets have your top 3 “should be caged” players.

Ivey is a better tournament player then ferguson. You cant say that Ferguson is better just based on # of cashes and $ won because he has entered so many more tourneys then ivey. If the question is who has had more sucess in tournaments then its ferguson, but ivey is still a better tourney player overal

No matter the criteris, I would still put Ferguson ahead of Ivey in strictly tournaments. Quite frankly, I think Ferguson is THE best tournament player going right now and for the past couple of years. I mean, he is has been at so many final tables and has so many cashes. Yes, I understand that Chris plays alot more tournaments than Phil, but it isn't like Chris has more opportunities to play in them then Phil. Besides, don't they both pretty much play every major tournament anyways?? And if not, there is nothing holding Phil back from them. Bottom line, Chris is so in the zone in terms of tournament poker that I have no choice but to say he is the best.

Ferguson was the MVP of My PSP winning world series team this year, so I got much love for him. Ivey is better all around, but jesus may have him tipped just a little in tourniment play. Kinda a moot point, they both are simply outstanding tourney players..

Exactly, and of course Ferguson has had more cashes, he has been playing probably 10 years longer than Ivey.

DN. I think these headsup matches really show how much others fear his game. Any game and there isn't a line 20 players deep? Really says something. He's even playing Ct Chocula to a standstill and the Count is picking the games. Dan Harrington. He might not have the flash and luster of Gus, but he's got the main event bracelet from 95 and enough appearances at final tables to know its not a fluke. His writing on NL tournement play is textbook for serious students. Chris Ferguson. So many WSOP cashes in such a short period of time. Main event title, and that pause to consider all the info before every move. Truely a great, and at the peak of his game. Honorable mentions. Eric Siedel - another deliberate player, just unnerving.Barry Greenstein - he's a top player, just ask him - he'll tell you. TJ Cloutier - the guy wins at every game.

You are flat out wrong about others the heads-up matches showing that the other pros "fear" DN's game. Playing another pro heads up for 500,000 is simply not worth the time to MOST pros. Not to say all the pros would beat DN, but there are many pros who would have an advantage over DN in certain games (Forrest in Stud H/L, for example.) However, most pros are not gonna risk that much money on such a marginal advantage...only a few will. For instance, Hellmuth, it could be argued, would have the advantage over DN in NL Holdem (he did win the heads up tourney). However, there is absolutely zero chance that he is gonna risk the money in perhaps a 51-49 advantage, he would need a greater advantage than that. That is not fear, it is being smart. To be honest, I think that DN saying he will take on all comers in all games is not very smart, regardless of whether he is being backed by the Wynn or not. Not to say playing a few of the matches here and there wouldn't be a good idea, but taking on all comers leaves him pretty vulnerable. So, my point is, DN is NOT the best pro in the world, so quit saying everyone else "fears" his game. If everyone "feared" his game so much, then he wouldn't have stopped playing in the big game because he would have that much of an advantage over everyone else. You don't see Ivey taking him up on the challenge matches, does that mean Ivey fears DN?? No.

Well, according to Hendon Mob databases, Ferguson has won more money all time in tournaments. Also, they have the same number of bracelets. Also, Ferguson has 42 WSOP cashes to Ivey's 21. So, you may feel that Ivey is a better tourney player, and that is fine, it is an opinion, but there is no way you can say that Ivey has had "much, much" more success than Ferguson in tournaments. And don't bring up the point about Ivey not focusing on tourneys as much, because that is exactly what we are talking about.
Ferguson is twice as old as Ivey and has been playing for way more years. Lets look at Ivey's stats when he gets into his 40's. I believe he'll have crushed Jesus in a big way. Not that Ferg is a hack, but he came up at a time when poker was not as big and the competition is just gonna get tougher. *L*T*

You are right, in twenty years even with a limited tournament schedule, Phil Ivey is gonna have tons of tournament victories and bracelets

The competition is not "tougher" now, it is just tougher to make it through the minefield of donkeys with the larger fields. All the pros will tell you that 60-70 percent of the fields at the WSOP, for example, are pretty weak, it is just that they are bound to get lucky against you, making in tougher to get through. Ferguson, however, seems to be able to dance through these fields better than anyone else right now though.
