blowing online bankroll problems

Recommended Posts

I seem to have a much harder time online than in live play keeping control of my bankroll. Maybe it's because the money doesn't feel as real online or something. But this has been about 5 times now that I have built up a nice amount of money online. I think to myself "once I reach this point, i'll cash out 1/4 of my money." The problem is I don't ever hit it. I seem to get into these funks where I start playing poker like a 4 year old. I know I am doing it, but I get progressively more pissed off as I play and will blow every last cent of my money online over the course of a few days. I consider myself a pretty solid poker player, but I hit these streaks where I can do nothing right. I am wondering how you all handle cashing out online and making the most of what you have earned. And some tips on saving myself from these streaks that just devastate my bankroll. It's happened 5 times now and it's starting to really get me frustrated. I have built a lot of money up off of a pretty small deposit, only to blow it. I have managed to cash out some of it during some of these streaks, but sometimes I don't get any of it out before blowing it. It's starting to really get frustrating.

When you blow it off in a few days are you playing at the same level limit or do you move up to try earn it back? But it's mainly just something you're gonna have to adjust to I'd think. That the money and chips online are as real as live play, even if it isn't as much fun as the live play, :D.I don't often cash out too much money because I'm in the building the bankroll stage, I only take out money when I absolutely need it. I guess it depends what your playing online is for. Is it to build up for higher stuff online, or just to have fun and try to earn a little side cash while doing so.If you know you're playing like a 4 year old you should take a 1-2 day break whenever you realize this. Put yourself on time out. If you can't play online, and think the situation is silly, you'll realize that it's silly for you (and I know it's not intentional) to not take it seriously, and it might help you get over the problem. The problem seems to be one of perception. In your gut, the online play isn't real. You need to make it real to yourself somehow. Is it that you play at too small a limit online as compared to your live play? This is all just my take on it. Disagree and/or yell at me at will.

I had alot of the same problems. Part of it was playing limits that were higher because you got bored of dominating the lower limts. Another part was just always trying to make back the money you lose. I found that a really good way to manage the bankroll online (its working really well so far) is to have a book with every tourney or cash game you buy into and how much you cash out for, with hours played and money lost or won. It generally gives you a better idea of where your losing money and it makes it harder to tilt off money. I think i have a pretty good idea of all this because I've lost 1/2 my bankroll in a day 3 times now. Good luck with itcheers

Sounds like your problem is discipline. You know how to play good poker but get bored or frustrated and make bad calls. Basically...you go on tilt for a day or 2 (yikes!)I printed out a sign and keep it posted right above my monitor. It reads: "DISCIPLINED, PATIENT, AGRESSIVE, SMART"When I start making bad calls, I read this and tighten up my game.

my sign said "dont be an ass, jay" it worked about the same way before i moved out of that room and took it down.i had a few others taped to the desk such as:"jacks suck""KQ is a limit hand"i cant remember the rest, but they were all similar... little reminders to keep me from getting carried away
