question about the party step higher

Recommended Posts

Is this a good idea?My friend is currently doing it, and he made it to step 2, but was then bumped back down to step 1.I was just wondering if this was a losing proposition or not.I'm thinkin about doing it, butb I'm afraid I'd just be bouncing around step 1-3.By the way, if you win at level 4, do you have to play step 5 or can you leave with the 5k?

nolosing propositionhave to play step 5, can't cash out instead of playing
yupmy friend and his friends play step 5 for a living. good luck. but then again, he's a dumbass too
to make it from step 1 to step 5 is a losing proposition, if you have the bankroll to buyin to step 5's and play those that isn't "playing the steps" that is just a regular sng bankroll

nolosing proposition Ok, can you give me a clearer explanation why it's a losing proposition?
because you can do it on your own, everytime you get 1st, step up. the pay outs in regular sngs are better spread, too. the rake in sngs are some of the worst in poker, and when you get up to step 5 you'll have to face my direct buy in friend. i consider myself on par with him ( i just never took down a super weekly to have his kinda roll) and would not want ot face him, or anyone on that level if you don't play there consistently. another one of my friends was able to do all 5 steps and won it. he hasn't played them since for obvious reasons.

what if you just lose on purpose at level 4 at 3rd, 4th, or 5th place? The payout is fat considering you only invested 33$, why don't people try to do this regularly? Is this STILL a losing prop...?
wow. i'll let you think about what you said before i respondwow.

k. i waited....i'm not gonna argure, and i can understand that money is green so take it, but before doing a lot of math to prove you wrong....how you think losing is a winning proposition?

how you think losing is a winning proposition?Well I doubt that most people can hang with the people who regularly play the 5k +300. Taking the 3rd place money and running just seems like the thing to do. Maybe do it again after that and go for the big money, but I would appreciate any math you have that would support your statement. One way I can see this being a good prop is the fact you only have to pay a $3 rake, no matter how many SNG's you end up playing, rather than playing 10 and losing a hot $30

Each "step" takes a rake from the buyin of the previous step. So you may have only paid X amount of dollas yourself, but Party keeps taking out of the prize pool at each step for its fees. Think about it, you can buyin directly at any level. You pay a fee, each player who won their way in via the steps still only paid wht they did originally, but there is now less in the prize pool.Party Poker wins again.
