home tournament structure help

Recommended Posts

My friends play a single table tournament, usually 8 or 9 people every week, but it seems every time I go there they hand out different amounts of chips and change the blinds whenever they feel like it. Does anyone have any links for suggested single table tourney structures or does anyone have any suggestions for a structure and starting amounts. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The 2 main home games I play in have the following structures...$10K in starting chipsblinds :25/5050/100100/200200/400300/600400/800500/1000800/16001000/20001500/30002000/40002500/5000 etc...blinds go up every 20 min. This structure leads to about a 3 hour tourney. I like this structure for a home game. The other one is...$5K in starting chipsblinds:50/100100/200200/400300/600400/800600/1200800/16001000/20001500/30002000/40002500/5000blinds go up every 10 minutes. This structure has more of a turbo feel to it, but tourneys usually last about 1 1/2 hrs, and we play about 3 or 4 in a night. You can of course use a bunch of variations of these structures based on what kind of tourney you'd like to have, but these are a couple of basic ideas.Hope this helps.

I like the set-up mentioned above, and we use something similar. You can set up the blinds any way you like, and you can control how long the tourny will last by assuming that around the time the big blind equals the initial amount of chips, that will most likely be the last round. So, for a one table tourny, if you start with 5K, the tourny will probably end when the blinds are 2500-5000. I'm not sure if I made any sense there, but that's the way we set ours up to control how long it will last.

The only thing I suggest to change with any of these is to "dumb it down". Rather than starting with 1500 chips and 10/20 blinds. I make it easy for the idiots that I play with and atart with 150 and 1/2 blinds.Just a thought....
