phil ivey vs. todd brunson

Recommended Posts

In the Q&A with Doyle on ESPN.com he said something to the effect that his son was the best young player out there with Ivey coming in a close second. Sorry, I don't have the exact quote. If anyone wants to post it feel free. Anyhow, do you guys think that doyle is biased here or is Todd Brunson really that good? I know he's an excellent player, but is he really at that level?

i would consider ivey better since he always plays for the highest stakes possible and todd is known for playing in the weaker games even when there are higher limits availablebut since ive never played a hand with either of them i cant really say anything, just a guess though

From what I read Todd doesn't play the highest because he hammers the lower games. If he makes more money killing 2k/4k than he would playing 4k/8k seems to me he's got the right idea. Its the bottom line that matters, not who can piss the farthest

Ivey is way better, has more bracelets, plays in the highest stakes, plays all the different type of games.
you can't really compare bracelets because todd is more of a cash game player and honestly couldn't care less about bracelets. also, they can both play all of the games. todd doesn't play the highest limits as much as ivey simply because the lower games are easier to beat. more power to him in that respect.

It's not like any of us have any idea. Of course you will say Phil Ivey because he has been on TV so many more times. No reason to really speculate....

4k/8K isent spread every night, 2k/4k is still the big game. I would think that He would be killing limits more like 1k/2k. Ivey is the better player, todd is to lazy and doesnt play as much as Ivey.

That's not really fair because I don't think anybody plays as much as Ivey. Here is a quote from Card Player Magazine Volume 17, No. 24:CD: How much time do you spend playing live games?PI: I put in between 50 and 90 hours a week. I put in a lot of time playing poker.

Ummm... and Ivey is more of a tourney player??????? Nope.Ivey is exactly the same way (more cash games and doesn't care as much about the bracelets). But they both still play in some tourneys, and I think Ivey has had a higher success rate.I really think the true answer to this question lies in the opinions of their colleagues (and not just their fathers). I've heard more top players pick Ivey as the one young player they believe is the best, than any other. I've also heard Daniel's name right up the top of the pack as well.

does anyone really know what stakes todd and phil play daily? obviously the big game is dead lately since phil has been on full tilt all day the past week. todd is definetly good at every game. he wrote the damn section for stud hi/lo in SS2, has a bracelt in omaha hi/lo and is obviously a world class hold em player. doyle would have the more to say than almost any other person in the world on the two. im not saying ones better than the other but you cant judge by just television and popularity.

Here is the exact quote for those who are interested:Sara (Tinton Falls): Do you consider Phil Ivey the best young player out there today?Doyle Brunson: (4:32 PM ET ) Next to my son I think he's the best. Definitely they are the two best.

At one time or another I've busted both of those guys. Ivey is a calling station and Todd had a weakness for playing any 2 suited cards. Don't get me wrong, they're still both better that average.Hope that Helps.

I'd be willing to bet that Ivey puts in more hours in cash games per week/month than Todd.

it's kinda different with poker, though. in sports, you get to see the entire game with no hidden information whatsoever. in poker, the only information you have about each player is hearsay and -EDITTED footage from only tournaments. so, sure, you can talk about who's better than who, but none of our opinions mean jack shit and the entire discussion will go nowhere because none of us have any information to support our arguments.
