Doyle Brunson: (4:13 PM ET ) Yes. We've talked about it and it is inevitable that it will happen_____________________________________________________________Mike (Chicago): Any plans to play Negreanu in one of his challenges? Doyle Brunson: (4:32 PM ET ) No, I dont think I have anything to prove and he thinks he does or else he wouldn't be doing this. _____________________________________________________________

Andrew Feldman: (3:59 PM ET ) Hey everyone, Doyle should be here in just a couple minutes Doyle Brunson: (4:03 PM ET ) Hello everyone. Doyle Brunson: (4:03 PM ET ) Glad to be here, I'm at the Bike in Los Angeles and plan on defending my championship here. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Zak: What differences in style/betting patterns do you notice between the young players of today and the people of your generation? How do you adjust your game to account for these differences? Doyle Brunson: (4:04 PM ET ) The players today are must more aggressive and you have to use the term, wild, than the old timers. I play more straightforward as opposed to playing the more sophisticated game because the young players do not recognize the different strategies. Doyle Brunson: (4:05 PM ET ) Its a combination of all of them, but its the competitive spirit that burns brightly in me. I still love to compete. Thanks for reading the books. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Justin, Stevens Point, WI: What is the thing that keeps you going at your age? honor, fame, money, or just the competitive nature of most all great poker players to be the best, and attempt to stay the best for as long as they can? Thanks, Good Luck with your long future playing poker. I learned a lot from both of your books and enjoyed reading them both. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Dave (Austin): Doyle, what's the mistake you see less experienced players make the most often at Hold'em? Doyle Brunson: (4:06 PM ET ) It seems to me that the less experienced players ponder their decisions and give their hands away by the amound of time it takes to act on their hands. If they have a marginal hand, you can tell it, and then play accordingly. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Dan OC, CA: How hard is it to live up to the reputation that the media has created for you? Doyle Brunson: (4:07 PM ET ) I dont worry about that. I just do as I've always done. I enjoy playing and play with integrity and honesty. I love poker and I am thrilled to be the spokesperson for poker nowadays. Thats the part I like best. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Prospector3 West Branch IA: It's the first hand of the WSOP main event. The first guy to act goes all-in. Everyone folds to you the BB. You have pocket aces. Do you call his all-in, or fold and wait for better odds later? Doyle Brunson: (4:07 PM ET ) The day I fold pocket aces before the flop is the day I stop playing. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------John (Melrose Park, IL): Of all of the different games you play in the "big game" at Bellagio, which is your favorite and why? Doyle Brunson: (4:08 PM ET ) I actually like the 2 to 7 lowball the best. There are a lot of strategies other players arent aware of since they havent played it enough. I like it the best since I am probably more of a favorite in this game than any other poker game since htey havent played it as much. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Pierce (chantilly, va): Hey Brunson, Does your son feel pressure from your success and does he ever let you know that? Doyle Brunson: (4:09 PM ET ) I dont think he does. I think he knows that he is his own man because he is a self made player. I didn't teach him, he taught himself. I consider him to be the best young player in the world. He doesnt have the desire that I had, but thats because he has too much money too soon. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Jamie (Tampa, FL): Tell us how you celebrated after winning your tenth WSOP bracelet this year. Was it something you never thought would happen, or did you know youd get another....what kind of odds would you give yourself to win 11? Doyle Brunson: (4:10 PM ET ) I went home and went to bed and played poker the next day. Thats how I celebrated. I was happy and pleased that I've done it. I expect to win two more before I retire and I was pleased that Todd won his first bracelet when I won my tenth. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------JB (Shreveport, LA): Dolly, you and Chan both have ten bracelets. How bad does that burn Hellmuth? Doyle Brunson: (4:11 PM ET ) Its bad. These things are hard to win now. The reason why I want to get to 12 is because I think 12 might never be broken. The volume of players will make it very tough to win these things. Phil might never win another one. I might never win another one. Chan might never win another one. Who knows. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Ben (Houston,TX): What an honor it is to speak with a legend in poker. What advice do you give rookies who are interested in getting involved in the game? Doyle Brunson: (4:12 PM ET ) To play all they can. Don't get out of your comfort zone (monetarily). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Chris (High Springs, Fl): Do you think your group of players will ever play Andy Beal again? Doyle Brunson: (4:13 PM ET ) Yes. We've talked about it and it is inevitable that it will happen. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------James (Las Vegas, NV): What has been your most memorable tournament win to date? Most memorable cash game session? Doyle Brunson: (4:15 PM ET ) The most memorable poker win is the championship here at the Bicycle because in the first time in 40 or 50 years I had something to prove since I was having a bad year. I was thinking that maybe time had passed me by, maybe I was over the hill. I played very hard and very well and it was very satisfying to win this. My biggest win in a cash game was when I was 24 years old and I won $3800. It was more money that I had ever seen in my live and was a pivitol point where I could realize I could go on to bigger games. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------RL (NY): If you weren't a pro poker player, what profession would you most likely have taken up? Doyle Brunson: (4:16 PM ET ) My aspirations were to be an NBA basketball player, but had my injury. I probably would have gone onto education. Thats what my degree was in. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------James, Boston, MA: Mr Brunson- If you could create a table with 5 people to play poker with for an evening, living or dead, who would you pick? I'd pick phil ivey, tiger woods (just b/c they look the same), you, thomas jefferson, and bruce springsteen. Doyle Brunson: (4:17 PM ET ) I would like to play with Andy Beal, Francis Gross, Gabe Kaplan, Sid Wyman, and Major Riddle. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Mike (Chicago): There have been articles in Card Player that poker needs something similar to how golf has the USGA, and the perfect person to head that organization is you. Is that something you might be interested in if in fact you do retire? Doyle Brunson: (4:19 PM ET ) I dont have time for that because I'm promotion DoylesRoom.com. I think its pretty reasonable that it will happen in the next few years, but I dont think I will be able to carry that banner. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Brian ((New York, NY)): Hi Mr. Brunson. Who was the toughest poker player to read or play against in your storied career? Doyle Brunson: (4:19 PM ET ) Chip Reese. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Kevin (Glen Rock, NJ): Who would you say is the most "under-rated" pro out there today? Doyle Brunson: (4:19 PM ET ) Ted Forrest or John Hennigan. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------John (NYC): Do you play poker online? Doyle Brunson: (4:20 PM ET ) I play every chance I can get at DoylesRoom.com. I usually play at the highest level tables, but I do go down in the lower limits to promote it. We will have a day coming up where can play me at lower limits. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Dave (Las vegas): Doyle, what is the craziest side bet you have ever made? Doyle Brunson: (4:22 PM ET ) Climbing a mountain in a 45 minute time span down in Mexico might have been it. They bet I couldnt do it in an hour. This was a long time ago. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Sean-Kelley (Norcal): Hey Legend, Are there any good poker schools that you know of for a more advanced player? Also who is the best player besides yourself that youve seen and made them so good Doyle Brunson: (4:23 PM ET ) If you go to poker1.com, its Mike Caro's site (along with mine), we've got more things than you can ever think of. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Skip NYC: Hello. Can you comment on how to best fight through long periods of time in cash games without strong hands. Once I lose momentum by sitting out for a lot of hands or folding after the flop, I find it difficult to make any money. I generally am an aggressive player. Doyle Brunson: (4:24 PM ET ) You have to be able to recognize those streaks and you have to adjust your play accordingly. It's changing gears. Sometimes you have to bluff and pots and sometimes you just need to sit and wait. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Matt (Louisiana): I almost feel I'm not worthy. I play at a DoylesRoom skin and love it. How long do you see the current poker boom lasting before it levels off? Thanks from everyone at Tilt Zero. Doyle Brunson: (4:25 PM ET ) I think that we're still at the tip of the iceburg. It's going to get bigger and bigger and at some point it will peak, but I dont think we'll ever come back to even the level today. America is finally figuring out what I've know for 50 years, poker is a great game! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Chris (Vegas): Do you think the buy ins should be raised in the WSOP to thin out the fields a bit? 5600+ was kinds of a crapshoot. Doyle Brunson: (4:25 PM ET ) No I dont. The more the better. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Steve "Bullmer" (Santa Clara, CA): What are the three most important skills to becoming a successful poker pro? Doyle Brunson: (4:26 PM ET ) Discipline, Recall, and Experience. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------matt, (milwaukee): do you find it easier to get tells by betting, i.e. amount of bet, time it takes to make bet, or by physical tells. i prefer the betting. Doyle Brunson: (4:27 PM ET ) It depends on what level I am playing at. The level that I play at there arent many physical tells so you will need to rely on instinct and their betting patterns. At the lower levels you can get the physical tells. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Alan (Coral Gables, Fl): Doyle - Give me some advice about playing small to middle pair in a 3 or 4 player game. Doyle Brunson: (4:28 PM ET ) I'm not an advocate of small pairs . Its a big moneymaker if you hit it, but you burn up so much money trying to hit it. You need to determine if you can spend 10x the big blind in order to hit that hand. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Brick (San Diego): Do you consider yourself the best poker player ever? Please give us your top 10 players today. Doyle Brunson: (4:29 PM ET ) Thats a loaded question. I think because of my longevity, I've got to be up there somewhere. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Rich (Las Vegas): Would you consider Andy Beal a top 10 in the world head ups player? Will you play more yourself if the rematch ever takes place? Doyle Brunson: (4:30 PM ET ) No. He's tough and very aggressive, but I wouldnt think he's in the top 10. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------steve, philly (philly): Doyle~ Its a pleasure to speak with you, I generally do well in tournaments until it gets down to 4 or 5, and I drop my chips, even worse heads. any advice? Doyle Brunson: (4:30 PM ET ) You just have to not be afraid to go broke in those situations. Be aggressive and give yourself a chance to win. Thats all you can do. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Bob (Toronto): Are you so into poker that you go through withdrawal just like a junkie does without drugs? Doyle Brunson: (4:31 PM ET ) Yes, I'm convinced that me along with every other professional are compulsive gamblers. The difference is that we found a way to win. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Mike (Chicago): Any plans to play Negreanu in one of his challenges? Doyle Brunson: (4:32 PM ET ) No, I dont think I have anything to prove and he thinks he does or else he wouldn't be doing this. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Sara (Tinton Falls): Do you consider Phil Ivey the best young player out there today? Doyle Brunson: (4:32 PM ET ) Next to my son I think he's the best. Definitely they are the two best. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Steve "Bullmer" (Santa Clara, CA): I remember reading an article about you having life threatening ailments at a young age. Do you think these survival issues had a major impact on your game? Doyle Brunson: (4:34 PM ET ) Definitely. Its what convinced me to go ahead and do what I wanted to do as in those days, it was illegitimate. We should do what we enjoy because life is so short. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Drew (FL): Doyle, whats your best advice to someone who's been having a bit of bad luck lately and consequently taking it with them to the table. Best ways to avoid steaming or being on tilt? Doyle Brunson: (4:35 PM ET ) You have to realize that you need to go by the year, not the day, week, or month. If you go on tilt or steam, its going to have an adverse affect on your winnings at the end of the year. Thats a big part of being a successful poker player, you need to control your emotions. Thats why Chip Reese is such a good poker player. I've never seen him upset physically. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Brian (Daly City, CA): I play poker pretty reguarly and I'm currently in a couple month funk. I'm curious what is the longest drought you've ever been in? 3 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, etc Doyle Brunson: (4:36 PM ET ) The longest drought I was ever in was a 3 month period. Last year at this time I lost 6 million dollars right before the Bicycle. I think it might have been due to the surgery that I had. If you lose more than five times in a row you should take a break. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------phil (mi): How did u feel when you found out there would be no horse tourney at the wsop? Doyle Brunson: (4:37 PM ET ) I was very disappointed. In my opinion that should be the championship event. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Matt (NY): Doyle, who do you think is the most talented female poker player out there today? Doyle Brunson: (4:37 PM ET ) Without a doubt, Jennifer Harman. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Moose ( Chicago): Doyle, do you really fold every A-Q you get? Doyle Brunson: (4:38 PM ET ) No, but its one of my least favorite hands. When it comes to shorthanded you have to play that hand, but in a 9 handed game, it seems that you are always up against A-A, A-K, K-K, or QQ. Its a losing hand in a ring game. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Pierce (chantilly, va): would you recomend changing your style in a cash game vs. tournaments....such as taking more or less risks to catch your card Doyle Brunson: (4:38 PM ET ) Definitely. Tournament poker doesnt even resemble a cash game. Its a different style completely. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Caz (Houston): Doyle, anything to say about your proposed bid to buy the World Poker Tour? Do you want to be more involved in televised poker? Doyle Brunson: (4:39 PM ET ) Cant talk about that, not right now. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------CG (NYC): i have several friends who wont play sober ( too nervous) do you think this limits you skill-wise? Doyle Brunson: (4:40 PM ET ) Absolutely. Nobody can do as well when they are drunk than they do sober. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Louie ( Detroit ): Are there other casino games you enjoy playing besides poker? Doyle Brunson: (4:40 PM ET ) I enjoy shooting craps, but I dont do it very often. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Joey (NY): What do you think of Daniel N. as a cash game player, it seems he really feels the need to prove to the world something.....dont you find it all kinda lame? Doyle Brunson: (4:41 PM ET ) He hasnt played enough cash games that I can really evaluate what kind of player he is. I've played in a couple of tournaments with him and he is an excellent player. But how he withstands adversity I dont know, and thats the mark of a good player. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Edelman (Elmwood Park): What is the most money you've ever won in a day? Doyle Brunson: (4:41 PM ET ) I'm not sure. Up near $2-3 million I would imagine. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Brian (New York, NY): What do you do with your free time away from poker-related activities? Doyle Brunson: (4:42 PM ET ) I like to ride, so I ride a lot. I've got a place in Montana where I love to go hunting, boating, fishing, swimming, and just relax. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Brent (SF): Did Gus Hanson get busted in the Big Game earliery this year? Doyle Brunson: (4:43 PM ET ) Yes, but he made a nice recovery. He got back what he lost, and then some. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Primo (San Antonio): Do you support any charities out there? Doyle Brunson: (4:43 PM ET ) American Cancer Society. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------ryan (minneapolis): what is your favorite sport to watch? Doyle Brunson: (4:43 PM ET ) College basketball during the NCAA playoffs. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Sara (Tinton Falls): Are you good friends with any professional poker players and do you have any home games including some of the world's pros? Doyle Brunson: (4:44 PM ET ) I don't play in home games and I've got countless friends in the poker world. Everyone I played with I consider a friend...well at least 90% of them. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Unabomber (vegas): you sick of me yet? Doyle Brunson: (4:45 PM ET ) I dont know, but I admire your choice in women. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Sean (Boston): Doyle, what is the biggest key to winning a No Limit Hold 'Em tournament? Doyle Brunson: (4:46 PM ET ) Luck. I think probably 80% of its luck in a 2 or 3 day event. The skill factor increases the longer you go. The beauty of poker is that anybody can beat anybody. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Shawn (Vegas(Sioux Falls)): How long before a women wins the Main Event? Doyle Brunson: (4:46 PM ET ) In the next 20 years. It will be one of the greatest things to happen to poker if a woman could win the main event. There's just not that many women that I think are capable of winning it. It's just going to be hard. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Jeff (Dallas): Do you have any plans to write any more books? Possibly about tournament poker exclusively? Doyle Brunson: (4:47 PM ET ) I've got the outlined layed out for "The New Hold'Em" by Doyle Brunson, but its still in development. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Brian (Islip Terrace): What is your opinion of all of the Poker Camps and Schools out there...Is there any value to a novice poker player or is this another way for poker players to make money? Doyle Brunson: (4:49 PM ET ) No I think there is definitely value. You dont want to ever get so knowledgeable that you cant learn anything more. Everytime I play I learn something and I love to pick people's brains. In fact, I am going to have a Doyle Brunson fantasy camp within the year. You can probably learn more at poker1.com than a fantasy camp, plus save money since its free. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Kevin (New Orleans): Rather take you chances with 66 or AK offsuit? Doyle Brunson: (4:50 PM ET ) 6-6 is a favorite, but personally I like the A-K if the cards are down. Once you put the cards face up, I like the 6-6. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Chops (Wicked Chops Poker): Covering the WSOP this year, your class at the table after a bad beat or defeat really stood out, especially compared to some of the younger players. That said, when you were a younger player, did you steam more? And if so, how did you teach yourself to just let it go... Doyle Brunson: (4:50 PM ET ) I just let it go. If you cant handle that stuff you are in the wrong business. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Matthew (Florida): Dolly, if you could change anything about the poker world right now, what would it be? Doyle Brunson: (4:51 PM ET ) I would have to change myself to have a couple more years left. Thats the only change I would make. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Joey (Greenville, SC): Where would you rank Stu Ungar in all of the players in your past? Doyle Brunson: (4:52 PM ET ) I think he's the greatest tournament player of all time. I think that he's not in my top 100 cash game players. He had no self-control or discipline. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Chris (Blackwood,NJ): Hey Doyle!!! If it were you and your son Todd heads up who do you think would win? Doyle Brunson: (4:52 PM ET ) Whichever of the two of us that is the luckiest. Doyle Brunson: (4:53 PM ET ) Thanks for the questions. Come visit me at Dolyesroom.com. Andrew Feldman: (4:55 PM ET ) Thanks to Doyle for stopping by. Remember to join the ESPN Poker Club for your chance to meet, play with, and learn from Annie Duke in the ESPN Poker Club Las Vegas Experience. http://espn.go.com/poker

_____________________________________________________________Mike (Chicago): Any plans to play Negreanu in one of his challenges?   Doyle Brunson: (4:32 PM ET ) No, I dont think I have anything to prove and he thinks he does or else he wouldn't be doing this.  _____________________________________________________________
I dont think DN is doing these matches because he thinks he has something to prove. I think he's doing them because he has a contract with the Wynn and therefore can no longer play in the big game at the Bellagio. The limits the Wynn offers are almost micro limits to DN so in order to get some big time action he is doing these challenge matches.

Sorry, but no. Daniel obviously feels he has something to prove, otherwise he wouldn't be doing it. What does he want to prove? That he can beat any player in the world heads-up while allowing them to choose the game (within limits). Yes, he can make money from these matches, and obviously plans on it. But you don't challenge another professional player in their game of choice to replace income that could have been made at the big game. That would be completely, utterly, insanely retarded. Daniel doesn't strike me as a buffoon.
