CaneBrain 95
There are a lot of people who would say that the DUNE books are better than all of them. And they would be correct.I like PMJackson like LOTR a little better.....seemed like a more tightly constructed story than Dune....dune was almost a little too convoluted at times....still...Dune is great stuff.I couldnt disagree more on Gatsby though. Best book ever?? Eh. Just off the top of my head I liked the Count of Monte Cristo much better as far as classical literature goes. Brave new World is also spectacular for whoever mentioned it. Atlas Shrugged is another one I enjoy much more than Gatsby....
NortonFan 0
I hated the Rye because of the story itself. I don't want to read about some teenagers problems. It also could be I was forced to read it. But had I been reading it on my own I would not of gotten past chapter 2.

I read a few; not as bad as I feared, but not nearly as good as the originals. Still, it was interesting to read about the origins of the different Houses etc.Patrick

The concept behind it is more worthy than the actual guts of the novel.I've never read the Count of Monte Cristo. Ayn Rand is not, IMO, a very good author either.

But to each their own.Have you read any of the prequels that have been released by his son (FH I mean)? I read a few; not as bad as I feared, but not nearly as good as the originals. The son is not the equal of the father. This is often the case, especially when the father is as talented as Herbert was.

Dubey 1,035
Dennis LehaneJohn LescroartGreg RuckaGreg IlesI read about 4 John Lescroart books a couple years ago, and I'd reccomend to anyone that hasn't read anything by him to read ONE. They start getting repetitive.he is a good writer, however his books vary very minimally from one book to the next, he is fairly formulaic, and I was able to guess the villain by about the 80th page in the 2nd book I read. I only read a third because I had nothing else available at the time, and I stopped reading the 4th about 20 pages in.As for Dennis Lehane, I have only read Mystic River, and it was quite good, are his other books worth reading? ronikazi 0
Heard Atlas Shrugged mentioned a few times but what about Fountainhead? IMO by far a much better book. Also have to throw in some Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller.

Truth be told, I'm not a huge fan of courtroom dramas.Lehane's other books center around a pair of Boston PIs, Angela Gennaro and Patrick Kenzie. They are well written hard boiled PI type stories, very much worth it if that's your kind of thing.
boyd84 0
No one mentioned the King of All Media- Howard Stern's book Private Parts? Shame on All of You. Besides Fight Club, what does Chuck write about in his novels? Ive seen Fight Club the movie... how does the book compare?

That's my recommendation.

Besides Fight Club, what does Chuck write about in his novels? Ive seen Fight Club the movie... how does the book compare?About Chuck, I'm probably not the one to answer this, as I've only read one of his books. I just finished reading Diary by him, and it was terrible. After a brilliant first chapter that got me very excited about the book, the rest of the novel degrades into repetitiveness and ridiculousness.I still plan on reading another few of his books though.
