Don't feel so bad dna-- it happens to the best of them. Check out DN's "Alcohol" posts from 2002:1. http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/2002-poker...t_from=&ucat=2&2. http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/2002-poker...t_from=&ucat=2&3. http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/2002-poker...t_from=&ucat=2&I'll post the meat of it here: "In Part I last issue, I gave you a little history of my teenage years, and how alcohol and poker just seemed to go hand in hand. As I got older, I realized how naïve that was, and decided to take the game of poker more seriously by committing to playing sober at all times."In Part II, I left off at the beginning of 2000 when I decided to play live-action poker that year and take a break from the rigorous tournament circuit. Well, that’s exactly what I did."At the time, I was as financially stable as I’d ever been. I had just come off a huge month at the Taj Mahal in December, where I won the championship event and did very well in the side games. I could, in essence, spend the entire year playing golf and having fun, without playing even one session of poker, and still be OK financially. As it turned out, I wish I would have stayed out on the links the whole year and as far away from the poker room as possible!"So, what happened? What went wrong? I’m getting to that. Suddenly, I just didn’t care that much about my results in poker. A win or a loss wouldn’t change my life any, and that is supposed to be a good thing! I didn’t play with the same tenacity I once did, and basically became bored within my first two hours at the table. So, what was my cure for boredom? You guessed it! Bring on the cocktails!"I can still remember the day I hit rock bottom as if it were yesterday. On my 26th birthday, I embarrassed myself in front of my peers and didn’t remember much of anything. I was drinking kamikaze shooters at the table after already doing a week’s worth of drinking in one night. I woke up not remembering even one detail of any hand I played that night. I had no idea if I’d won or lost until I went to Bellagio the next day and noticed that there was $70,000 missing from my safe-deposit box."I went from being financially stable in January to all but broke in August. What a shame. I blew a bankroll that I had spent years and years trying to build. All that work went down the drain in half a year. How pathetic; how embarrassing."On a more positive note, I was able to come full circle, and I’m a much stronger person and poker player today than I ever was before. I was able to recoup all of my losses from 2000, and haven’t really looked back since."

My only saving grace on drunken binges is that I switched to play money, a strategy I strongly suggest. But that wouldn't have worked for you. Your description showed a serious self destructive urge you need to watch out with. It looked like a huge built up frustration that just had to come out.For that, I have a punching bag. If you don't have one, I'm gonna suggest that as well.Beat yourself up for a day on it so you don't forget it easily, then move on. Good luckRay

Have someone teach you how to throw a proper punch first.Or else you run the risk of breaking your wrists. Then you'd be walking around looking like a T-rex.That's really gay.

I now have even more respect for you. I love the fact you kept moving up. I have no bankroll mgmt and I play for entertainment value. I just use my entertainment money for poker and don't seperate it but I love the gamble you showed. Throwing caution to the wind. You're game is quality and there is no reason you couldn't win at that game. Except maybe 12 beers. Although I can't imagine you were so bombed that you went insane and played 10 2 off.Good for you. Take the whole roll and multi at 10 20. I've developed a gambling problem. Don't listen to me. I need action most times. I bet if my takeout order would be ready the other day. I lost. I still won't bet on sports though.
You're a baseball fan, right? And you read the Sports Guy on espn.com? I hope you know about his favorite betting game, which I have done many times and makes for the most fun 9 innings you'll ever have.Go see a game with a few friends. Sit fairly close to the infield. Now draw inning numbers out of a hat, and everyone put $50 bucks into the pot. If at the end of your inning the catcher rolls the ball out to the pitcher's mound and it stays on the mound without rolling onto the grass, you win the pot. Refill the pot, and repeat.I guarantee this will make for an incredibly fun drunken baseball game with your buddies. There was one time we had half our section involved, and probably half of Fenway was wondering why we kept getting so wild right after every inning...
I've never seen that column. Sounds fun though. I am a big time baseball, football, and now just getting back into basketball fan. Not to toot my own horn, but I've probably forgotten more sports facts and stats than most people will ever know. I can even tell you where most players today went to college and their numbers. I have a great memory and mind for that stuff. I just can't bring myself to bet on sports though. I seem to have control issue when it comes to betting. I'll play blackjack, poker, craps (no control, but fun as hell) and golf, but no football. Simmons betting columns are good though. Reminds me, I have to check for the new article today. I will preorder that book he is writing.

DNA been there done that! Not the getting drunk and donking off money, even worse I just do it Sober!!!Shake it off. Glad that it didn't end up as a complete train wreck. I have spent a small fortune learning this game and have been much, much more stupid than that. I love the game and am finally turning the corner and winning but I still do dumb things. You are not alone.Keep it at and don't let bad days at work, home etc. affect your play. Don't play if things aren't right elsewhere.I am like you married with 2 great kids and a wife that should have dumped my sorry ass a long time ago.I am truly blessed!

The stress of continuously making the most of every hand at the level which your bankroll can afford is the most tiring stress that I have ever dealt with. So, as a rule I let myself gamble at least once a week- try to find a game that is out of my bankroll but the table looks soft and beatable. I find for me it's neccesary- it keeps it interesting and feeds my urges, because face it we are gamblers, gamblers who have found an edge but gamblers nonetheless. To Ron Mexico- man, gamble on football- I sat aside a certain amount preseason for the whole season and break it up over 16 weeks so I have already determined my losses, if I lose it all it does not matter, I was already planning on that. It makes the gambling that much more fun because it does not matter. Kind of like this sunday- I am in the 125,000 guaranteed on UB and it's essentially a freeroll. I played a 50+5 sng where the 1st prize was 3 Tecs+30 and won, then I played in yesterdays 100+9 8000 guarantted with one of those Tecs and took 7th, good for around 500. So, now I buy into sundays tourney already up 445 on my initial investment- so I can just have fun. Will I take more chances? No, not neccesarily- but it will be nice to just play and not have in the back of my head that this cost me 200 plus dollars to be here. Seriously, we all harp on BR management as well we should- but allow yourself the slack to go crazy once in awhile, it's good for your sanity.

OK this is a VERY serious question and along with the flames I want some serious answers if its possibe.I got drunk as shit last night because I have had the worst 2 days at work you can imagine and just alot of stress, anger, aggression, etc etc.Keep in mind I am a 6'2 140 lb dude so a tall skinny fucker and I killed an entire 12 pack of bud light during my poker session last night. For those that have followed my blog and read my posts here you know I am very serious about poker, and especially about proper bankroll management. For the past 8 months I have slowly grinded my $50 into $3500+ and am trying to get to my goal of $5000.Well guys I dont know what to say besides I completely lost control of myself last night. It started off with a few beers and horrible bad beats at my regular $5/$10 game, then I started chasing cards, money and getting more in debt. Then I do two cardinal sins, I kept drinking and I jumped to $1o/$20. I proceeded to keep drinking and keep losing, found myself down $1500 out of my entire roll of $3500 so only $2000 left. It was so bad that I took my last $2000 and put it all at at a $20/$40 table and my mindset at the time was I really didnt care if I lost it all.Someone smiled on my stupidity and I won about a $1000 at the $20/$40 table so I should have been happy and quit with my $500 loss instead of $1500, but hell no I proceed to play a $100 SnG at 1:00 AM, which I placed 3rd in for $180, then I proceeded to play $400 NL at 2 AM after I had completely killed my 12 pack of beers. I managed to win about $200 more at the NL tables and found my total damage for the drunken session to only be a loss of $160.So after 3 long hours of sleep and being back to work I am looking back on last night with utter disgust and disbelief. I really cant believe I was willing to throw 8 1/2 months and over 1500 table hours of grinding away on 1 drunken binge. I am a responsible guy, very happily married, 2 amazing kids, nice day job, etc etc. I like to think I'm pretty intelligent, but honestly I cant figure out what happened last night. I dont know what kind of comments or feedback I am looking for here other then I'm just simply venting my crazy night. I feel pretty confident in saying that was a 1 time thing and I'm back to the daily grind of proper play and proper bankroll managementDiscuss ........
I have a general rule for myself, I never play ring games while drunk or upset. I find my patience is completely shot and I end up playing too many hands. End of story for me. Maybe you could try something similar? SnGs are great while drunk, where hyper aggressive play can often pay off, and losses are capped. Seems like you did alright in the SnG department. If it was for $100 I assume it was at Party or Stars?I usually grab one or two $50 dollar tables at Party after a night of drinking. Very theraputic, and worse case it won't put a huge dent in my roll.If you're going to get drunk and gamble in the casino in person, better to play a table game. Your odds would be better playing blackjack or even craps (3 card poker my favorite) then playing drunken stress-relief LHE.I'm glad the night didn't turn into a nightmare for you.

no way, Lord help this forum if Mr. Mexico gains the power of cursing
HE KNOWS.
Well I mean it was pretty sweet making $1000 in like 45 minutes at $20/$40. I mean if I can do it with 12 beers in me I can probably make double that sober, right?? right??[sw]

you need to not drink when you play. its that simple. thats the answer just never dink again while you are playing. you survied mabey a 90% chance of losing you whole roll. you basically hit a 2 outer on the river to not lose your roll. if you let this happen again, your done. dont just shake this off like a lot of people are saying, always remember it and make sure it doesnt happen again at all costs.but im glad that you were lucky enough to make most of it back.

Thx for sharing DNA. This reminds me of DN's 'party day' article a couple of years ago. He needed one day a month to relive that month's stress of grinding it out.6'2 and 140? you sound a lot like my best friend but he's 6'3 and 135 :club:

I guess I need to hit the play money tables or the $5 SnGs or something when I need to vent or relieve stress.
Play money tables are killer for venting. I like to go to truepoker.com, where everything runs miserably slow because of high-quality graphics and the avatars and dealers speaking, and go all-in on every single hand. I was venting last night after getting my poket kings busted out in a WPT legends Sat, went to the playmoney table, started with 1k in chips, went all-in every hand pre-flop for an hour and got up to 20k in chips, the whole table got in on the act, so everyone would go all in on every hand pre flop, successfully turning a hold 'em game into a roulette wheel.Funny stuff, and I wasn't steamed at all once it was over.
