Man, I thought the company I work for was throwing away money by giving us limited internet access, somehow this sight hasn't been blocked yet (knock on wood). If I could play games and surf the net I wouldn't ever get anything done. Damn, now I'm having a craving for Minesweeper, I might have to pull it up during the Neg-O tonight.

I was addicted to Minesweeper in University:Beginner - 4 seconds (lucky board setup - no skill)Intermediate - 36 secondsExpert - 104 seconds - I could never crack 100 no matter how hard I triedThis was on a wheel mouse, I wonder how'd I'd do with an optical mouse... And yeah, I had WAY better things to do with my time, but I wasn't a big fan of studying.

Can someone explain the skill aspect of minesweeper? I have played it many a time and I just click randomly as I have no clue on how to beat the game? What the hell are you suppose to do?

sw?Hard to explain in words. The numbers tell you the number of mines directly adjacent to that square (eg. the number 1 means that there is one mine directly adjacent). If you can figure out which square has a mine (like a 1 touching a corner), then you can figure out which don't.

How can you guys possibly beat expert in under 100 seconds?... It's not that it's too hard I just can't click that quick. I'd be lucky to beat 200 seconds I think.

My best times at Minesweeper would be on an old computer at home no longer used. I think they were around:Beginning: 6 secondsIntermediate: don't remember for sure, I think fortysomethingExpert: 124 seconds.I could never get under 100 seconds on expert, either. However, I'm glad to know I'm not a total chump. The version of Freecell that old computer had had 32,000 games. I played all 32,000 in consective order (I kept a piece of scrap paper with the last number played, and tended to play in 25-game increments -- it took months). One of them is unbeatable (you can find out which if you Google it), but all the rest are winnable. Newer versions come with a lot more, but I've done enough with it.Right now I waste time with Spider Solitaire, with a win rate of 62%.As for playing Minesweeper, it is hard to explain in words. As Devilsslide said, the number you reveal tells you how many mines that square is touching. You put them together in a kind of logic sequence -- a series of if-then questions. IF X square is touching 1 mine, THEN 7 of the 8 squares around it are not mines. By process of elimination (and additional information, since each nearby square tells you about all the ones it touches), you can narrow down which one is the mine. My husband is extremely bright, and he thought it was a random game until I showed him -- some people don't see it as a logic sequence right off the bat.
