limit player switched to no-limit!!!

Recommended Posts

Wow....I like how all the proponents of NL holdem have absolutely no idea how the concepts behind limit work. SSHE only works against people who've read the same book? Bad limit players have an edge that can't be taken away? Looks like the majority of them are ones who can't beat beat low limit, don't have the bankroll for high limit where "people will finally be good enough to not suckout on me", so they switch to NL and think it's a more "skilled" game. Well yea, there is more money to be made in no limit because all the idiots who can't beat anything else flock to it.

Congrats on your move to NL poker.I think someone on here previously said it best, butI'll reiterate it just to make the point. Play whatever game you are comfortable withand are able to enjoy playing. As for the limit apologists on here, ya ya ya, I getthat it's a more technical game, and SSHE, and allof the other stuff you use to defend your game ofchoice, however, for the OP, and myself, limit pokercan at times be boring and tedious for someone whois playing partly for entertainment and partly for profit. If NL isn't your thing or you don't find it enjoyable, that's fine, please continue taking money off of the fishies atthose tables so that they will think NL is a more skilledgame that they have a chance at, and will then come over to our side and donate. Those of us who enjoy NL poker willappreciate the patronage of these donks, and attempt tofleece them of all their money so that they'll go back tolimit poker and allow the cycle to repeat itself all over. Some day we will all grasp how the poker economy functions and stop knocking each other's game of choice."It's like the nature channel. You don't see pirahnas eating each other"

Right now I am pretty much just a limit ring game grinder (doing quite well), with a few NL tournies/sng's and PL Omaha mixed in. But after deciding to try my luck with my last $10 on party (from some freeroll a while ago) I might play more if the players are this bad and nut camping works.People seem to find any reason to call for large amounts in hopeless situations. Like recently in a hand I was dealt 99, I raise 3x get 2 callers, flop comes QQQ and I bet 2/3 the pot, 1 caller. At this point my stack is about the size of the pot so I figure any non-ace I will go all in on the turn. Turn comes K and I go all in and get called, I figure I am beat. Until a river brick and he flips over A9o.Edit: And now not even 10 minutes later I remember why I don't play NL ring games. I get KdKh and raise pretty high in middle position, 3 people call. flop comes JT3 with 2 clubs. I bet pot, and get reraised all in. I call and he has QQ, which wins after he spikes a Q on the river. Sigh :club: It's not really losing that actual hand/$50+ pot that bothers me, it's that I know after a beat like that my session is pretty much done as I won't be playing my best, especially against that guy.In limit the same beat wouldn't cost me my whole stack (at most 2 more big bets) and I wouldn't tilt away any money afterwards.

I recently switched from Limit Hold Em to No Limit and agree that No Limit is the better game--it takes more skill and is the ultimate skill tester. One thing that I haven't seen mentioned here--Once you have switched over to No Limit from Limit, try switching back to Limit for awhile. I think you will find your Limit game MUCH improved. Playing No Limit makes you a better Limit player. With that said, both games are so much fun...

I play almost entirely NL HE (i'm trying to start learning Limit though). In person I think it's a close call as to which requires more skill. Limit requires more "math" ability, but I think that being good at reading gives you a bigger edge in NL. However online NL is just about sitting and waiting for the nuts. Limit requires way, way more skill online.Personally I think NL HE is more fun in person too, but maybe if I get good at limit I would enjoy it more.
