I like the ameristar room alot. Its very nice, comfortable and nice management and players. However, the wait can be very long. I have only played Harrahs once or twice its ok. My personal favorite place to play is actually the President because its a very loose fishy game especially late night on the weekends when all the drunks come out. However, the President is a dump. THe card room is like in the basement of the boat. So i like the Poker Room itself at Ameristar the best, but the wait can be long and i think it has the best competition among the three rooms. hope this helps.

I can attest that the President Casino is a dump...can't wait for Pinnacle to build their new one on the landing. Also I'm not sure but check to see if the Casino Queen or the Alton Belle have poker.

I'll get back to you on June 13th, 2009.
2009? are you serious...how long before the one in Lemay in completed?
I meant I will get back to you when I turn 21. On June 13th, 2009.
Oh, makes a little more sense because I couldn't understand how it would take a total of 5 years to build the new casino, if you go back to the development stages in 2003. I think you confused me on purpose :club:

I turn 21 in October, so the only place I've played is President's (cuz it's a piece of s hit and they really don't care as long as you have a pretty good i.d.). The President's room is horrible, the people all smell and have sum-mer teeth (some 'er here, some 'er there), but the game is very fishy. They only spread 1-4-8-8 though. I've heard Harrah's is the place to be as far as poker is concerned.

I have had a chance to play them all. Harrah's has become my favorite since i never received any comp points from Ameristar. The Ameristar is however a nice room as well. Poker isnt allowed in IL so Argosys and the Queen do not have poker. Harrahs does have a 1/2 and sometimes 2/5 no limit as well as 3/6 and 6/12 limit. I believe the last time I went to Harrahs they may have had a 10/20 limit game. (this I am not positive about however). The President is def a dump but the play is very bad there I can attest to that.

That's not completely true...poker is allowed in Illinois but only in casinos. The Harrah's in Metropolis, IL (which I frequent) offers NL Hold'em as do many of the casino's in the Chicago area, which is why I said I'm not sure whether the one in Alton or East St. Louis offers poker.

I'm moving in to a new house in St. Charles on Friday. We're turning the basement in to a poker room with decorations, a full professional table, etc. I'll pus a post up whenever I decide to host a game. Maybe some of you can stop by :club:

This is the schedule of games at Ameristar: http://www.ameristar.com/stcharles/sc_ca_pokerroom.aspA side note/question to anyone near St. Louis.Have you ever played in any of the tournaments at Ameristar? I have tried to play in the "Show-Me Shootout" multiple times, but it keeps getting canceled. All they need is 20 people, but they can't even get that many. One of the people running the poker room told me that they have only actually held the tournament twice this year (it is scheduled to take place twice a month, with each winner meeting at a final tournament at Ameristar Kansas City in December). I know the prize money isn't that great, but the buy in is pretty affordable. I figured more people would be interested in gaining live tournament experience, but I guess I was wrong.Hopefully there will be more interest in the rumored WPT satellite that is supposed to take place at Ameristar in late August/early September.

It might just be the riverboat casinos, however, I think I heard this is no poker in Chicago just underground card rooms sorry if this info is incorrect I cant completely recall where I heard this.
Well all casinos in Illinois are riverboat or have foundations set in a pool of water, that is the only way they could get around the gambling laws in the state.

Exactly, as a matter of fact one of my engineering professors at SIU did all the consulting on that project before he decided to teach.

I hate to disagree with you but I have played NL at Harrahs at least 2 days a week for the past 9 months and have never seen a 1-2 NL game. they have 2-5 everyday (3-4 tables usually) and will spread a 5-10 NL game on thurs. and sat. if there is enough interest. As to the original topic I feel that both Harrahs and the Ameristar are both good rooms, but if you play limit you should go to Harrahs b/c the Bad Beat jackpot is over $260,000 while ameristars is about 10k.Michael
