interesting experience at the taj mahal

Recommended Posts

I just remembered this story and was meaning to post it when it happened last fall in AC but I just forgot to do it. So here it is:I am playing 1/2 NL (300 max buy in) and get 120 in chips and sit down at a full table. Sitting around me are a bunch of college kids and younger adults. I proceed to build up my stack to around 200 when one of the players says, "Lets all put 20 dollars each in front of us and not look at our cards. Flip the cards over and whoever has the best hand takes down the pot". I was like huh? Are you serious? Everyone was like, alright, lets do it. The dealer agrees, so I was like sure why not. I get dealt 57 os and see AK, 88, and other decent cards around me. 10 people see the flop creating a 200 dollar pot. Needless to say, I river trip 7s as does another guy and we both split the 200 dollar pot. They did that again later on this time for 10 dollars and I took that one down too. How sweet it is!Has anyone here ever done that at a B&M poker table?

This seems like something that would go down at thatshady casino from the movie "Vegas Vacation" where theywere playing Rock/Paper/Scissors and Pick a Number.I wouldn't think a reputable spot (or dealer, for that matter)would allow this, and I wouldn't be a part of it, if they did.If I wanted to play "showdown" I'll do it at home with my buddies and our spare change at the end of the night.

No. Are you saying that a casino and more importantly, a dealer, let you guys play an UNRAKED hand at a brick and mortar casino? Are you sure you have all of the details correct? I kind of question the authenticity a bit...J in Colorado

I had an elderly gentelman pay me $50 not to talk for an orbit at Commerce once.Only modifation to B&M play that I've played recently was playing5/10 kill with a "rock" which is a lot of fun, but I'm far too lazy to explain how it works.

What do i get out of lying about this story? I know what happened and I am just trying to share my experience with everyone. They did rake the hand, and each time i won i tipped a good amount. I just wanted to know if this had happened to anyone else. The dealer simply asked if everyone agreed to the "showdown hand" before he continued. Everyone did, so it happened.

I have had a similar experience. I was at Harrah's in AC back when they had that junkie 5 table poker room. (I haven't been there in a long time but I imagine since they are having tournaments they expanded it). I was playing in a 2/4 limit game which was actually about to break cause their was 5 people left and 3 of them all friends were about to leave. Two of them decided they wanted to go all-in in this LIMIT game. And announce to the table. I mean it had the decorum of a normal limit hand... everyone folded to them and they without looking raised and reraised 3 times before the deal said just put it all in. (Saving time, I guess once its heads up you can raise and reraise as mean times as you want). The dealer did take a rake and K J high one the pot making me wish I went in with my A 10 off. So yes it does happen for a bit of fun everyonce in a while.

lol!! I had the same happen to me, he was not elderly, but he was sitting on around 1.3k at a 1/2 nl table. He paid me $25 to be quiet for five minutes. I almost didn't make it :club:

I have not ever been involved in that, but our dealers at the Gold Strike in Tunica will let players choose the game as long as everyone agrees. Late at night, people play Crazy Pineapple and Tahoe at time. As soon as one of the players want to stop it ends though

I've never had this experince nor would I ever agree to it. I have played with rocks and straddle pucks and I generally encourage a gamble it up type atmosphere where it will increase my edge. I fail to see where putting in 20 bucks on a blind hand and not playing after the flop would do that. I would rather just play blackjack.

Your odds are much better in the hand if there is no rake than blackjack.
True, but not much better, only marginally, depending on your strategy, etc.In the poker hand, you're getting 10 to 1 on a 1 in 10 chance.to me, that's akin to 1/1.Blackjack isn't much worse than that, assuming basic strategy, and even better if you have a +count on the shoe.(and at least in the blackjack hand you have some input over what happens)

Just curious. Was the guy who suggested this in the big blind? Whomever is the BB makes out like a bandit in this scenario.Well, "bandit" might be too strong. But it is one way to avoid all the disadvantages of the BB.

Yes, I have done the exact same thing at the Bicycle casino. We got short handed and we were waiting for more players to show or to break the table. We talked the dealer into it. (he didn't really care actually). We did it for $10. I lost. J7 offsuit.Yes they still take a rake.Much fun though.
