going to vegas, need some advice

Recommended Posts

I'm a long time lurker here on the boards, just looking for some quick tips.I'm going to Vegas in a few days, i dont have a lot of money, but i want to play a few NL tournaments. I play online a lot, $10-$50 SNG's usually, never play cash games though. So do you poker nuts have any suggestions about where i can find a $20-$50 NL tournament this week in Vegas? I'll be staying at the Golden Nugget...and thanks.

Mirage and Bellagio both run sattelites for their weekly tournaments during the day. Might be worth playing a couple of single tables to take a shot at the bigger prize pool MTT's.

I'll be going at the end of August for the first time, from Vancouver. The best deal I've found is $399 CDN for air and hotel at the Imperial Palace. Any reviews? Second choice is the Stratosphere for $429. My parents liked the Aladin, $589.

I've only seen the casinos, not the hotel rooms, so take this with a grain of salt......Aladdin looks beautiful and right in the middle of the strip, it would be my choice. Imperial Palace.....kind of a pit compared to many of the hotels, but has a great free bet coupon book, still near the center of the strip and hey...$ saved on the room can be used for gambling. Strat lookd nice comp to Imperial Palace, but at far end of strip (on way to downtown). Normally I enjoy walking, but not in 110 degree heat ! Have a ball.

Aladdin also has a great poker room, IMO...Imperial Palace is cool to stay at, so long as you don't stay in the motel style rooms. I won $500 at the video poker bar there too...:)Also IP has great comps.

Since it's your first time, I wouldn't recommend the Strat. It's WAAAY at the North end of the strip, nearest casino is Sahara, anything beyond that is quite a hike. Monorail stop at the Sahara though.Imperial Palace is a decent mid-strip location, Venetian, Harrahs, Flamingo all in easy reach on that side, Caesars, Mirage & TI across the street. Imperial Palace has a monorail station.Aladdin is in a decent location more towards the South end. Paris & Bally's next door, MGM a bit South. Bellagio, Monte Carlo & NYNY across the street. And a bit to the South, Excalibur, Luxor, & Mandalay Bay.I've personally stayed at MGM Grand, TI, Venetian (one night, it was the cheapest place I'd want to stay at for a Saturday night), Bellagio (got a great rate in July with a free lakeview upgrade), Monte Carlo, & Golden Nugget.Stayed at TI most frequently, usually get a good rate from there with an upgrade to the "tower deluxe" room with a good view of the strip. A couple of weeks ago they weren't offering decent rates when I wanted to go, & think one day they weren't even taking reservations, so I tried Monte Carlo. OK, but a bit of a step down from TI IMHO.As far as poker, played most frequently at Mirage. Played a couple of days at Wynn on the last trip, up $150 the first day, down that + $50 the second. Also played one day at Monte Carlo since I was staying there. Decent 2/4 game, one blind which was nice.
