one of the most amazing Experiences in my life was getting a chance to see the Gunners plays back in the fall of 2003 against villa.
Marchione, tell you what. We'll pool our resources and go catch the Devils and the Gunners this season. I'll even consent to going to Highbury if we have to.

True. Maybe we can find some fish willing to play us four handed for 2 tickets. Or we can cozy up to Malcolm Glazer.Sorry for hijacking your thread, Harry. Hey, we can go catch a Charlton fixture that weekend too, maybe! :club:

I'd be willing to chip in if we go see SPurs/Aresenal at Highbury or WHite Heart Lane. I'm a Devil's fan, but highbury is gonna be torn down soon, so I want to see a historic stadium before its demolished

Harry,Last year you were advocating some sort of association or union of professional players. It seems as if the focus here in the US is for a professional player to sign with an agent and go after endorsements. I believe some of your concers was with casino fees and the ability for players to promote their sponsorship. Have you had any success in this arena? Is there an association in Europe that supports the professional poker player? It seems as if your idea would have elliminated the whole tip thread concerning the WSOP. It may have also elliminated some of the other issues as well, such as multiple similar events and the over lapping of the games. Do you have any additional insight? Are you still persuing this avenue? Over the past few years you have created a name for yourself, this may be the time to get something pushed through. Also, have you considered getting an agent and doing some endorsements? I feel that with your writing style, your style of play and your increasing fame, that you are a very marketable personality. By the way... this is one of the few legnthy threads that I have read in its entirety in a very long time. I would buy your book in a heartbeat! :club:

Harry,I know you've never been to Atlantic City. But I also know you have a goal within the next two years to win a WPT event. Why don't you come to AC for the Borgata Poker Open and the WPT event? I know you have all you tournament expenses all mapped out, but be spontaneous, come to AC, and win the WPT Borgata event.

harry ~ thank you for taking the time to reply to these posts, its very cool of you.Now I got to ask, are you going to put a punt on chelsea winning the EPL this year ?LOL I hate to bet against My team (the gunners) but there is something about ladbrokes money that makes it that much nicer !(i lived in north london for a year~ hornsy)hope to see you play down under in Jan, will come up and say hello if you are there.
I haven't had an emotional bet for years......There is absolutely no place for sentiment bets when it comes to betting.Anyway this thread is getting to be a bit weird as it's Daniels Blog/Website yet I find that there's this thread all about me.Maybe we should get back to more normalised threads and subjects on poker.

As pretty much the sole defender of X22 on this website, I thank you so much for the positive feed back you have about X....You hear that X haters?!?! X22 TAUGHT harry the game!!!!Anytime I see someone talking smack about X22, I will link this thread....Now, to a more pressing question for Harry...If,with a gun pressed to your head, would you pick Liverpool or Man U?( not for betting purposes, but for supportive purposes).Sports betting has always fasincated me, but I know so little, that I almost never make sports bets. The only bets I ever make are ones with muddled headed fans who bet with their heart. Some day I'l put in the reasearch, but rightnowI'm haveing a hard enough time with poker!

I've never responded well to threats at gunpoint so I'm going to be diplomatic and duck the question;-)

Harry, semi-serious yet pointless question. Is there any story behind your card protector from the '04 WSOP?I've tried to figure out what it was a few times, some sort of lion or griphon, I think. Was idly curious if there was any signifigance.

The card protectors that I use to which you refer are Owls.I have a collection of four. two are made of gold, one made of jade whilst the fourth is a native Canadian Indian hand painted owl on a stone/pebble. There are also a couple of others which unfortunately are currently undergoing repairs.I also sometimes have a Greek 1 Euro coin and a replica ancient Greek coin with the goddess Athena on one side and an owl on the other as she is depicted by the owl as she is suposed to be wise. The reason I have owls is because my nickname is "The Wise Owl."Many Europeans have nicknames (eg Devilfish = Dave Ulliot, Crazy Horse = Ram Vaswani, King Cobra = Surinder Sunar, The Lizard = Tony Bloom). You cannot select your own nickname as it has to be given to you by someone else.Anyway I was playing in a tournament at The Bellagio one day and was next to Suriner Sunar whose nickname is The King Cobra. I had bought a small card protector for him in the form of a gold King Cobra Snake because without knowing me in the past he was kind enough to invite me out to dinner (one good trun always deserves another in my book). He thought that in this particular tournament I had made a succession of good lay downs against him and on a subsequent trip he presented me with a wooden carved owl to be used as a card protector and hence I was dubbed The Wise Owl because of my great laydowns. Many opponents comment on my owls which I only use periodically and I tell them that they have magical powers. (The gold ones have small jewels for eyes). I tell the opponents that they have x-ray eyes and can see their hole cards and that they whisper to me whether to fold raise or smooth call my opponents. Of course this is all complete and utter nonsense but after you make a few shrewd lay downs and calls it can start to play on your opponents minds and they actually begin to start believeing the garbage you have told them.Hence you get to prey on opponents superstitious beliefs and get to mess with their heads and after all that's what tournament poker is about - namely getting inside and messing about with your opponents head.I use one as a card protector from time to time but really prefer to reseve them for final table appearances when they may well all come out but these days they are making fewer and fewer appearances as it is sometimes preferable not to have people recognize you so readily.Appearing on TV has some disadvantages as well as advantages as it definitely affects the way others play against you. Some give you too much respect whilst others give you absolutely none and want to bust you with anything but then that's another important part of poker. We all have to adapt to our opponents and alter the way we play depending on how they are aplaying against us on any given day.

My friends call me "the Drunk" because my play during a hand resembles the stages I go through when I drink. Pre flop I'm conservative, then I go wild on the flop, black out on the turn do something stupid, and regret it on the river. My new cardholder will be a Corona bottle. :club:

  • 2 years later...
Unfortunately I only seem to really play poker in The USA when I am there and as I already said I play for enjoyment first and foremost rather than the money itself as it's a great challenge to me personally to ty and succeed at poker.Anyway I used to play mainly 30-60 hold em whenever in Vegas at The Bellagio but for the past 12-18 months it's been 80-160 limit holdem but when in LA it will go up to 100/200 at somewhere like the Commerce.I have also played as high as 200/400 limit holdem and 100/200 mixed limit games.I also sometimes play the no limit cash games with 10/20 or 25/50 blinds.I used to keep accurate records for both cash and tournaments but nowadays don't bother with the cash game records as I play so infrequently.Anyway from the older cash game records I made approximately 1.25 big bets an hour in the 30-60 game which then dropped down to around 1 big bet an hour for the limit holdem now that I play 80-160.I would say that I make a small profit or at least hold my own in this game but I would say that you should let my peers in that game judge me.No doubt I could do better but my style is not really suited to limit cash game play as I play way too loose in that I play far too many starting hands. However I believe that this is more than compensated for by my superior playing skills from the flop onwards. I have no problem laying down hands from the flop onwards having started with relative garbage when I have partially hit. (Saving bets = profitable bets just as much as gaining extra bets in limit games).Half of the players to be found in the 80-160 at the Bellagio are VERY decent players (I will not name them) whilst the other half are merely recreational/having fun/tourist type players but I seem to be particualrly good at taking advantage of weaker players whilst steering clear of the better ones.Sometimes I will play smaller games but usually this only happens when a friend is playing in the same game and they want me to study them and critique their play at the end of a session. My particualr style is also much more volatile than most others and it is interesting to see me play in places like California where volatility in Vegas is made to seem psotively docile in comparison. As for tournament play I am well ahead and have been in each of the years that I have played. This year I had intended to pay approximately $220k in entry fees but the reality is that this will now come down to approximately $175k in entries but I have already cashed $450k+ and this does not allow for my having won seats through super sattelittes for many of the bigger events. To date (since April 2002 and including the rest of this year) I have not paid more than $400k in entries but have cashed in excess of $1.3 million so that represents a very healthy profit.Basically for this year I am going to be up $300k even if I make no further cashes from tournaments alone but then this doesn't allow for expenses which are considerable but which I would probably have anyway but it would not be unreasonable to assume I spend $100k per year as a direct result of playing poker. The only reason I decided to play more tournaments this year was because I wanted to find out how good I was compared to others or find out if it was possible to compete with all those fine professional players out there.I feel confident that I can at least compete with them but would hate to have to make a living from this as it is possible to be the very best player in the world but go years without winning everyhing.Every year I set myself targets and last year it was to win a major event which I was fortunate enough to do in London. The goal for this year was to go through the $1 million winning barrier which I did and for the WSOP and WPT it was to make a final table in each.I fortunately made two final tables at The WSOP but have not made a final table in The WPT this year but overall I have fulfilled that target.I also hope to win a WPT title and a WSOP bracelet at some time but these goals do not have to be met before 2007 as these are my targets for the next two years. What I am about to write is probably going to seem a little starnge but anyway here it is for those interested.I have used poker to direct my life outside of poker and make me a better person and this for me are the more improtant goals that I set for myself. There's no point in having all the money in the world if when you get older you are going to be lying sick on a hospital bed somewhere.Because I have wanted to improve as a player it has driven me to changing my way of life. I have successfully lost weight (I have lost 26 lbs (>10kg) in the last six months by exercising daily and watching what I eat. This has enabled me to become a better, fitter, stronger and tougher opponent. It has also helped me concentrate and focus better and be less emotional about what happens at the poker table.I guess what I am trying to say is that I have discovered that there are great many things away from the poker table that you can do that will improve your poker and my desire to be better at poker has driven this healthier lifestyle.I also gave up smoking on March 31st 2003 and when people tell me how tough poker is I just think how much harder it was to give up an addiction such as smoking. It may seem starnge but when I get short stacked I think getting back to par or above average chips is positively easy compared to giving up smoking.Basically then in leading a healthier lifestyle I have found that I have been rewarded in my poker accomplishments.I genuinely believe that poker players are sportsman and to be successful you have to be as disciplined and focused as the very best Olympians.Giving up smoking, losing weight and becoming healthier and adopting a disciplined way of life were therefore my primary goals and a by product has been that my poker has improved.
Congrats and GL in the future.
