HarryYou mentioned Brian Zembic has had a big influence on your poker game. Is this the Brian Z the backgammon player from the old Mayfair club? The guy who got the breast implants on a prop bet?

This is technically off topic but since this thread is to Harry I am posting it here.  I hope all is well with your family and friends with the bombings in London.  My thoughts are with you and everyone else in the UK right now. Keep safe.
I was in Vegas on July 7th but todays events are "Weird" to say the least. There are few confirmed details about what actually happened but it appears that nobody was hurt and that they were kind of "Pretend" explosions involving detonators but no explosives. The conclusions being drawn so far are that either the detonators were not fixed to the exlposives correctly or that there were no explosives as none went off.One interesting report referred to a yound kid who saw an English guy with a rucksack that seemed to start smoking and exploded but that the guy with the rucksack was not injured.Other reports seem to suggest that those with the rucksacks or 1 or 2 of them were seen running away from the three tube stations and the bus involved in todays incidents. (NB Two weeks ago there were three tube trains and one bus involved). My personal conclusion is that this is the work of some sick group trying to copy what happened two weeks ago but who are not as fanatical and certainly not suicide bombers ie this is not muslim/Iraq/Al Quaida related but more likely someone like The Animal Liberation Front/Anti G8/ Anti Abortion/Pro Life type protestors etc etc or someother such group like these.Either way I'm sure we'll get more details as time goes on but thank heavens these incidents haven't involved more death and serious injuries to innocent everyday folk.

I enjoyed watching cricket when Fox Sports ran it last year. I could watch it when I went home for lunch.
To those not brought up to follow cricket it is a difficult to understand or even enjoy watching as you can have an event go for 5 days and end without a result.I personally love it but my bet on the Aussies this morning which I thought was a good bet has gone from a fair bet to a very bad bet to looking like a good bet once again. But then there is still time for this bet to go pear shaped again.

Betfair do not allow Americans to open accounts.
:x , damn congress needs to stop it with all of these anti gambling laws
It is IMPOSSIBLE to stop people from doing what they want to do in the long run and people like to gamble and they will all want to use betting exchanges.Furthermore in the civilised democratic world you have to allow people freedom of choice and if they want to bet via the internet then they should be allowed to do so.Not legalising people to do what they want to do leads to it being driven underground and all US citizens need to do at present is open an account using a UK address or though an overseas based friend who can bet legally from their jurisdiction. My basic advice to the US government would be to licence online gambling, negotiate their cut of the profits or turnover and make themselves and everyone else happy.

The game of cricket looked like it had a lot of action in it. But the playing field was HUGE. I didn't get to pick up all of the subtelties or even rules, but I must have caught the tail end because there was a victor. I'd love to see some more. P.S. Prayers are with all of the folks across the pond.

Harry! Any tips for someone hitting the horse track for the 1st time? Great WSOP by the way.
I'll have a stab at this and assume you are referring to US horseracing but I really only know a bit about UK horseracing on turf.If I were going into somthing blind like this I think I would look up an established set of handicap or speed ratings and look for a horse that was top rated for that days distance and going where the rating(s) was achieved in the recent past. Then if it was not favourite I would bet it as it would seem reasonable to assume you are betting on the best horse in the race that was not at the shortest price.A bit simplistic but I'm sure you'll appreciate that great volumes have been written on this subject.

Did you play in either of the 'live' telecasts Harry? One was at Turning Stone and the other was just a short while ago? Since you weren't at final table, I was just wondering if you played the tourney?

Alas I never played at Turning Stone and have never played at Foxwoods, Atlantic City or many places at all outside of Vegas.Unfortunately I am restricted as to the total number of days I can stay in the USA despite having a Visa that permits me to stay for long periods of time and have to count the days I stay there.

do you have the same visa situation that Ccarlos Mortensen does, in which you have a visa for 90 days in the US

Make the most of your time here. Good plan.

Hey Harry, what do you think about playing in the neg-open sometime?
What's the Neg open?I assume it is a poker comp being run by Daniel?
I'm assuming the question was about the Negreanu Open, which is played by members of this site on Poker Stars every Wednesday at 9pm Eastern. I'll chime in and say it would really be something if you were interested in playing, it's only a $10 buyin and we play to measure the skill level of the people posting here on a regular basis. There's a points system kept up by one of the posters here as well. If you're interested some Wednesday when there's nothing else to do. :club:

I have a P-1 visa which treats me as a professional poker player/sportsman (poker players have now been accepted as though they were professional sportsman) and it entitles me to stay for a period of 5 years.Under the previous system as a resident of the UK I used the Visa Waiver program which allowed me to stay for 90 days at a time. The reason I got the P-1 was pure and simply to suffer less aggravation from Customs and Immeigration as I make several trips a year to the USA.The reason I count my days is for tax purposes. If I spend too much time in the USA they will treat me as a resident alien and tax me on my worldwide income.I do not know what visa Carlos Mortensen has but I do know that several players such as Evelyn Ng and Gus Hansen have the same kind of visa as myself.

eesh, I'd love to see you play the Open, Harry, but I believe that puts it about 2 am GMT. Icky timing.Have to ask, Harry, because my favorite channel here in the US is Fox Soccer Channel, which covers some cricket and rugby as well. Which London football team (if any) do you support? I'll take my lumps as a Man U fan. Also, do you place any rugby bets?

I obviously don't know much about your situation, but even if you fail the physical presence test (the days test that you were referring to), it sounds like you would meet the exception of having a tax residence outside the US that is your main residence and would still be able to file a nonresident tax form only on your US income. If this is keeping you from attending certain events in the US, I would consult your US accountant and get Internal Revenue Service Publication 519 - U.S. Tax guide for aliens.

Many thanks but I have researched this area extensively and there is still an upper limit to the number of days which I can spend in the USA.

I have been known to bet on Rugby at times (Union that is) and had a particularly good world cup.As for UK scocer teams I have since a very early age been a Chelsea supporter but now that they are so rich with Abramovich have tended to switch allegiance to a less fashionable Premiership team - Charlton. The major problem, however, is that I spend so little time in the UK that I rarely get a chance to go to any live matches any more.

I've only ever been to one, that was Nottingham Forest v Aston Villa (long, long ago.. 1991, I do believe).. Forest 2-0. I'll always remember it, there was such a different atmosphere there than at any other sporting event I'd ever been to.I prefer Union to League myself, my father was a college player in his day. Thanks for your reply, and I'm not sure who to root for now in day 1, the Aussies or the Brits now tat I know your bet. :club:
