wsop2--5 winner is a cheapskate!

Recommended Posts

Unless he was being dealt to, I don't see why he should feel obligated to tip at all.Way too much money was taken out to begin with. WAY TOO MUCH.And that money was taken out because it was supposed to go the staff etc. Why should the winner give away more money? Madness.
I think the point being made is kinda an anology of leaving the waitress 1 cent. Leaving that 100 from 7.5 MILLION was an insult. He should have either tipped NOTHING or tipped more.

You guys are incredible! Most of you are probably still in school or college and love to spread gossip wether it is substantiated or not. Grow up!Give the dude the benefit of the doubt. How the hell do you all know what took place behind closed doors? Slandering this guys name, calling him a cheapskate... and what do you know of the facts????For a start, you guys only "know" this cause you heard soemone else tell you... and you are furthering the rumour if you accuse him in this way...just 'cause you heard someone say it doesn't mean its true.Secondly, the USA is one of the few cultures in the world where tipping is the norm. In Australia (where he is from) it is actaully against the law and house rules to tip dealers and casino workers... perhaps he is unaware of American custom, and in the flood of emotions he went through, assumed the policy to be the same. If he has failed/forgotten/unaware to tip (we dont know that he hasn't) perhaps someone will politely tap him on the shoulder and inform him of the customary thing to do. Do you really think that soemone who payed the$10K in cash to join the main event - and then won, is hard up for money?I know the guy, and I can assure you he ALWAYS does the right and moral thing. He is a class act and a stand up guy.

you dont think them making $1,684,800 is enough already? I would tip the final dealer of the final table thats it.
To tip that dealer directly and make sure it goes only to him, you would have to meet him after the tourney at a location other than the casino. Any tip givin to that dealer goes in to the collective tips for the staff and it's then split between all on duty during that shift. As for how much would be a fair tip, man, that's really tough to say. You tip a waiter that serves you dinner 15% of your bill. But, you certainly would see the guy peeling off 15% of 7.5 mil, now would you? But, does 1% sound to skimpy? Hell, that's a measly $750,000. Tough call and a tough spot to be in. I sorta don't think it's fair to ask the winner this type of question right after he wins. Think about it. The guy just won the WSOP. There are a thousand thoughts a minute going through his head. The last thing he should have happen is being put in a spot where he could end up coming off looking like an ass if he doesn't think about how much to tip. Sure hope that's a problem I have to face some day!
Good maths :-)
Good grammar :club:
I can't let you have that one. Mathematics is shortened to maths in my country.

.01 x 7.5 Million = $75,000.10 x 7.5 Million = $750,000
gah! I am an idiot  This is why I am going to law school people....but his tip still was disgustingly cheap in my opinion my poor, poor math aside.

I would feel ashamed of myself if I were to throw down a tip of this size: .00133% which is what he did...
Yes, you should feel ashamed of yourself... all of you should!
If this isn't the truth, then why don't you enlighten us and tell us what he did tip. Since you're such good buds. You have no right to berate anyone if you can't give us a reason why this isn't true.

whether or not it's a cultural thing...if he DID in fact leave only $100...that is definitely worse than leaving nothing. It's a shot in the face. I have never heard this before so i'm not saiyng an opinion on the guy...but anyone who wins 7.5 mil and purposely only tips a hardworking staff $100 is a little shit.

tipping is getting out of control if you're expected to tip a year's salary because you won the biggest poker tournament in the world. there is no way i'm throwing a mercedes away on a tip just because i won a big prize. now if a hooker gave me the best head i ever had i may sweeten the pot a little.

I don't think $100 is worse than nothing if you don't understand the tipping custom. If someone asked you for a tip and you refused to give anything, I think you would realize that you were screwing someone even if you didn't know the customary percentages. But if you had no idea how much to tip, $100 might seem reasonable. I mean, how many times has the average person given a $100 anywhere, especially someone who is from a country where tipping is rarely done.

Hold on a second, you're telling me I have no right to berate you guys if I can't supply a prrof that he tipped ... but you guys CAN berate someone on a rumour???? Innocent until proven guilty... ever heard of it? I shouldn't have to convince you that he tipped... YOU should find the evidence that he didn't tip accordingly before slandering someone. Idiot!Wake up to yourself.

No... that's the EXACT reason I said it to you. I wasn't saying anything about his tipping, go back and look. My only post was in response to you, and you thinking you have the right to say everyone is wrong, but nothing to back that up. If you don't, then you are just as out of line as everyone else. Understand? So either offer up something of substance, or go away and stop interfering.

Yes, you are right - my response was to those who make defamotory accusations and assertions. I stand corrected. But, you're saying I should I should stop interfering? You say I should "offer up something of substance" - I will say the same to those guys who are trash talking: please offer something of substance to substantiate your opinions.I never said he did or did not tip appropriately. I said - if he didn't there is probably a reason and he will likely rectify his mistake... I also basically said we shouldnt accuse someone of crap without knowing what actually happened. You are telling me that I should allow the rumours to be seen as correct until I can prove them untrue???I will now "stop interfering" and allow you to speak all the trash you like.Like I said, grow up.

He already did tip. 3 %. Which was taken off the top. I wouldn't have tipped a dime, if I were him.I know, I know, he won 7.5 million dollars. You think Tiger Woods tipped out the staff of St Andrews? You think the Wimbelton staff gets tipped out. THE STAFF ALREADY GOT TIPPED!!!!!!!!!! I don't understand what the big deal is.

He did not tip 3%.The 5,600 people that entered paid the 3%This idiot tipped a hundred bucks. The minimum should have been 25k....and the proper amount was 75k.....

Many players, including Phillips, whom I respect on these issue, said the 3% was insane.I'd find the final table dealer and give him 5k. That's it.

first off i fail to see what amount this guy won has to do with the amount he tips. thats like saying bill gates should give massive tips because money doesn't matter to him. do i think I would have left more, absolutely. that doesn't make this guy wrong for not leaving more after the 3% chunk was already cut out of the prize pool. which i am sure was split down the ladder proportionally.

I dont agree but I guess you have a point. They did get some money already. However, the rest of your argument is not so good BigD.Tiger Woods does tip the staff at ST. Andrews. That is custom. When a tournament comes to town it means no members/regular players are playing which means no tips for the clubhouse boys, spike cleaners, other assorted staff.Phil Mickelson in particular is known to be an amazing tipper when he is at a tournament. Never heard about tiger but I am sure he is not a grinch. Not sure about wimbledon but I wouldnt be surprised if there was some tipping going on.
