My good neighbor/buddy moved to LV from Phoenix 8 years ago. He rolled the dice and took a job as a chef at the Mirage (Renior or Cocomo's, can't remember). He purchased a house then at Summerlin for around 145k and keeps the Phoenix house as a rental. (BTW the West side of Vegas is the better side). His 1700sf Phoenix house is now appraised at over 280K (paid around 90K back in '91). Vegas is roughly the same market so I think it's safe to say you'll pay around 290 to 320 for a 13 year old 1700 SF house there.Regarding the inevitable bubble, I think it will be more of a little leak out here rather than a collapse. The West will always be a very good housing market, especially with all the boomers getting ready to retire and move away from the colder states. I'm expecting a Phoenix/Vegas 10% housing correction, max. but keep in mind that 10 years from now you will be way ahead buying rather than renting. Not sure if any of this helps but thought I'd share anyway. Good luck with your move and the job hunt.Best...
Unfortunately, the market will collapse in the next couple of years. Especially in Pheonix - it is a haven for flippers right now, and that usually only last for a few years at most. As for Vegas, there are something like 10,000 ppl per month moving there or more so that market will remain pretty good. It would be a good move if you were getting a job of substance at a casino, I just can't see doing anything on the floor or for the public. Too low of pay and too much hassle.

Another update for those who care.I got an apartment with roommate last night in the Henderson, NV area. So for $410 a month (includes utilities) I will be in Henderson, NV. I will be attending BlackJack dealing school as well to work part time as a black jack dealer as the rest of the time I will be playing poker professionally. Out of all the card rooms that I played in (10) during my visit this past weekend, I decided that the Wynn was the place to be. So, that will be my work place. I will be leaving the state of Mississippi around Aug. 24th.Updates to continue (again for those who care).

most executive jobs in a casino do not pay shit. you need a job based on cash tips. although they changed the reporting. cash is everything in vegas, every day is a weekend with the tourists. i hve had two friends who working in vegas for 3 years. one worked for mgm group as an analsyst made nothing. the other parked cars. he made some sweet contacts getting some betting tips from wise guys and started making serious cash.the one who worked inside has since moved on and the one who lived the vegas style will never leave. he made 170k last year and in vegas with the costs of living he is living it up.LIVE in North Las vegas.

Good luck with your move! Too many people get stuck in their lives, don't take risks, and spend their lives regretting what they didn't do... You're living in the moment and pursuing an interesting life. Have fun and good luck with everything!

I guess if all else fails you can get a part-time job smacking flyers on your hand.
I still cant get all of those SNAPS out of my head. You hit the right part of the strip at the right part of night and its like hearing someone let off a round of firecrackers, SNAP SNAP SNAP SNAP!!!!
LOL - and the girls never look like the one on the cover
I learned a great trick for those things a couple of years ago and actually tried it. Goes like this:Carry a Sharpie or pen with you while you walk the strip. Works better if you're wearing a baseball hat and sunglasses. When they pass you the flyer, take out your Sharpie and autograph the flyer, then pass it back to them. Eventually somebody will see this and come up to you asking for your autograph. They'll assume you're actully somebody famous. And you're right, they NEVER look like the pictures.
