There is no entertainment value for the cheaters, thus they will leave.
Yea, I know if I could find a way to win limitless amountsof money by using some type of bot, etc, the entertainmentvalue I'm sure would wear thin after at least 15-20 years

It will no longer be worthwhile for the players using "weaker" bots to play. There is no entertainment value for the cheaters, thus they will leave. When they leave the "stronger" bots will have no one to prey on and they will eventually find something else to occupy their time.End result - business collapses.
You forgot the era of giant lizards. But really, I do believe this will happen.

As opposed to sites require people to play while on cameras that can observe the whole room. End result - buisness collapses.Online poker won't be around for ever.Deal with it. It's not that big of a deal.

Online poker won't be around for ever
I honestly think that if online poker DOES get shut down by the US Government, then the "poker boom" will start to collapse. But, if not, it will go strong (and perhaps without it), but poker will always be semi-popular mostly due to it's ties to the American lust for distractionary vices. But without online poker, then the whole "anybody can win" mantra that lures so many people in this country now into the game would be lost, which in turn would lose ratings, which in turns curbs interest in the game itself. As much I love seeing top notch pros play since I am a fan....I even will admit it is the no name average joes (i.e. Moneymaker) that attract the mainstream viewer, and that is the target most television stations gear towards, which in turn creates buzz. But I am sure poker isn't just a fad. "Poker nights" have been occuring in this country for a long time, and will always have a firm place in American culutre (mostly by groups of husbands who want to get away from their nagging wives). The question you could ask, is, "Will Texas Hold 'Em ever lose it's steam"? Remember, 5 Card Draw and Seven Card Stud were much more popular than HE for a long time (the only reason I believe HE is popular now is for it's name, the "all-in" aspect, and the fact it is the most TV friendly). People automatically assume the term "Poker" with "Texas HE"....... which is of course not the case - poker is much bigger than that one game. My friends all think I am weird 'cause I like to play Razz......I just love to play poker, period.

The thing that draws donkeys to poker is that anyone can win on any given night, most players don't track results, most players don't even know they are losers at the game, most players who do know they are losers chalk it up to bad luck and bad beats... Poker will stay strong, yes it's not going to continue growing at the pace it has, but it will remain established and a big draw... especially as prize pools increase and the winners become more rich/more famous...This is irrelevant.Did you ever play "Starcraft"?Most players were terrible at the game. Most players had every available cheating software. There wasn't money involved.Suckers will still play tournaments, I guess. So there's that.
I think it's pretty relevant, in terms of live poker and the recent boom. I would say a starcraft tournament involving no money wouldn't be as relevant but what do I know...Anyways just look at the casino's do you think the slot machines are gonna collapse once all the granny's realize they are losers long term? Well same goes for poker, add in that it's cool and you'll have college kids playing in good numbers for years to come...All the talk about collapse of business with the cameras and bots reminds me of the matrix...

No. We'll just overthrow the government.

Umm.... as much as i hate to say...Smash is correct once again...I've read several articles talking about these said bots and they exist right now even as we speak...Not to say what i've read is entirely true.. but some truth is in it somewhere.. The death of online poker is inevitable... but the time frame for this "death" could be 5 could be 10 could be 15 years...SideNote:Did someone say Free Drinks????

Are there really that many bots in online poker? And how much of an advantage could they possibly have? Also wouldn't it be really difficult for the U.S. Government to regulate online gaming being as they are all based outside of the U.S. ?

Sure they could shut it down if they really wantedto. All they'd have to do is make it illegal for theinternet services to make those sites available to their customers. They would never be able to tryand prosecute each and every online poker player, but my making it against the law to provide peopleaccess to them, and threatening these companieswith huge fines or license revocations, do you thinkthey would take the chance? Not saying it will happen, but if it does, you canbet that's how they'll do it.

I think it will peak, and settle back down, but it will still remain more popular than it was pre-Moneymaker because alot of people have been introduced to poker as a result of that who really enjoy it.I snuck in and starting playing about 2 months before that WSOP aired, so you could say I got in just in time to watch the whole thing blossom.I am actually somewhat looking forward to a leveling out, some things have gotten a little too crazy.I'm waiting for the Harley-Davidson Poker Set, they have a product for everything...

I only play live games. Well, I do practice online, but never for real money. And the Bot tournament is already scheduled here in Vegas. I don't have all of the details, but there is enough money involved to attract some of the best programmers. And I believe that tournament play is going to become even more popular here. There is tremendous demand for them. There are daily tournaments at several casinos, and freeroll tournamens for club members after 50 hours of play in a month.Casinos are building new and larger poker rooms. Several have remove slot machines to make room for poker tables. So when unline poker becoms a vedio game, there will be live games to attract the gambles.
