calgary / stampede poker?

Recommended Posts

Hey I was just at the stampede and noticed that they have a 24hr poker room. Just wondering if anyone has played there or what it's like? Might go check it out tomorrow night if I have time.....Anyone?

I was there tonite. I didn't get a chance to sit in, but I watched my buddy's table for 1 hand. AA cracked by 82 off. I guess it is that bad...lol. But plenty of fish.

it will be full of fish during the stampede. It is also the only poker room in calgary with a 3/6 game. the lowest you will find anywhere else is 4/8.

I am playing there later today actually (Saturday)....in one of the heats for the Stampede holdem tourney - $250 buy in. Most of the room will be taken up with that....but there'll probably be a table or 2 of 3/6 going.

yes. Its alright. Calgary has like 4 24hr poker rooms. ELbow (across the street from stampede), ABS and cash.Stampede =loose 3-6 with tons of profit potential. Tons of fish.

Actually they have an area roped off downstairs for the tourney.

That tournament seemed like the worst deal ever.... am I wrong? 250 to enter... 1) 1000 2) 500 3) 250... with those 3 going on for a chance for 50,000.... If that's correct it seems pretty -EV???

Wow. That is brutal. However, I don't think that is how it works. I think they have a certain number of heats, and the winners all move on to the final table(s). Overall, the blind structure is set up poorly and the whole tournament is pretty crappy, but I don't think it works how you think.

Yeah... I wasn't going to play in that anyway.... I figure if I even had 250 bucks i'd be at the 3/6 or 4/8 tables.... Anyone who plays post what the play is like... i'm pretty curious. Maybe I can find my way down there sometime this weekend/week.

I know, it is kinda a fucked way they're doing this....but I guess they doing it this way cuz they can't accommodate 1350 people at once....so there are 27 heats of 50 people each.....winner of each heat goes to the final , but pays top 3 spots of each heat. Final 27 play at the end and are guaranteed money. It is a weird structure, but for 250 bucks I'll take a shot at 50,000. Leaving to go down there soon.....wish me luck! :club:
