anybody else own poker acadamy pro or other software

Recommended Posts

I picked it up yesterday and it's a pretty usefull tool on improving your game. It has lots of features, and you can also set up your own scenarios for having specific hands and trying them out by different positions and such.I was almost goin to get the wilson software, but then this caught my eye and I seen the comparison chart of all the softwares and PAP2.0 had the most.Anyone else have this software and what do you think?Anybody have wilson and what do you like about it?

I have Poker Academy Pro. I mainly use it to kill time at work (don't tell my boss). If you set it up with 1 tight, 2 medium and the rest loose computer players it seems to provide a pretty good simulation of what you see on the small stakes Limit Hold'em tables online. (Lots of callers that hang onto long.) While I don't think it's a perfect tool I do think that if you can't beat the players there you can't beat the players in a typical small stakes game. It also does gather a ton if useful information about your playing style. Overall I would say that it was worth the money. I've learned a lot for the price of the software. If you are already a good player it probably isn't for you. The exception would be if you want to improve your heads-up play. I've only used that a little bit but from what I understand it's a very good for that.I've tried the No Limit tables on the software a little and I think they were terrible. Really bad. People with $10,000 in chips going all in when the blinds were $2/$4. They may have improved that with some of the latest updates or I may not of had it set up right but just be warned.I've used the Wilson software a little and (again unless it's improved in the past 6 months) the user interface was just garbage. Looks like an old DOS program that someone ported (badly) to Windows 3.1. Then didn't improve it after that. It may be a good program but it was just so frustrating to use that I gave up.The other one that I have is DD Tournament Poker. It just does NL Hold'em tourneyments. Again, great fun when I'm at work. I do think (and others have said) that even set at the hardest setting it's a bit too easy. Either that or I should be at the WSOP right now raking in the money. For the price it is pretty fun, when you can't play for real money. It's very flexible in the type of tourney's you can set up (# of players, blinds, stakes, rebuys...). It also has a mode to use when running your own home tourney if that is of interest to you.

yeh I have D&D too, but Poker Academy Pro has been pretty good so far. It's always good to try out things too before you try it out playin online.I find myself wanting to play online though when I play PAP2.0 :lol:you Just have to make use of all the tools they have to offer. How long have you had the software?

I've had PAP for about 7 months. I've logged like 15,000 hands (Limit) while at work. Another thing I like about programs like this is it allows you to work on my own mental game. Things like "how do I respond to a 500 hand cold streak?". (Answer: it's really frustrating, but I'm glad it's not costing me any real money.)

Best poker sw by far.

It can't do anything better than PAP2.Just FYI...the guys at neverwinpoker.com seem to like PAP and one of them (Todd W/Dan Druff) is right now the Overall WSOP Player after having finished 1st and 3rd in two limit events.

very interesting to know! I know Thomas Thunder Keller, uses it and won a 2004 WSOP braclet.

I interviewed the president and the PR guy from the company that created PAP. They're great guys. The software is great, the AI is amazing. If you have any appreciation for computer software and programming in general, it's a great story and a great piece of work. It's also cool that the guys are incredibly knowledgeable about poker. They didn't do this in recent years thinking, "Let's capitalize on the poker thing." It's a body of work that has been years upon years in the making. It's also the software behind Stacked -- I should say, it's the AI behind stacked. I really can't say enough about the company, their work, and their products. Incredible. If you want to read the article, let me know. I'd rather not toot my horn if no one wants to hear it tooted. (Plus, I feel it's a bit sloppy, haha.)

I have the Wilson software currently and am not that impressed with it. All indications here is that it's not as good as PAP. Strictly for no-limit use, do you think PAP is better and would you suggest I purchase PAP even though I have Wilson? In other words, is it THAT much better? Thanks for your input.
