zimmer4141 0
My current computer sucks, so I'm looking to get a new laptop computer. I'm looking at Dell because my brother has a Dell and it has been very reliable for him. Anybody with a laptop have any reccomendations?
Under The Gun 0
I have a Dell. I got it about two months ago. To get a very nice discount go to EDEALINFO.COM, I got $750 off a laptop over $1499. So I juiced it up some and got a $2300 laptop for $1600. I have no complaints about my Dell whatsoever, its been a great piece. Check out that website though and hopefully whatever you get, you get a nice deal.

DKE_XP120 0
I work for ResComp at my school fixing computers, so far i've seen tons of every brand come in with random problems. The only company, i've never had ONE problem with, is eMachines. I bought my laptop from them last summer, it is absolutely perfect, their company had sucked in the past. However, they've completely redone their business and are by far the best out there.

No problems what so ever, except the model that I had had a recall if I'm correct because the right hinge piece would slightly crack (it was a small cosmetic flaw that occured from opening and closing too many times). I guess this happened to a TON of them. The cracks aren't so bad that the screen will fall off or anything, it's really no thicker than a thread. You can find them cheap as hell on ebay, I think most of them have the crack. What else is weird is that I think Gateway took over production of the model because last time I was at best buy I saw THE SAME COMPUTER AS MINE, but it said gateway on the back. Same buttons in the same place, same everything.
HangukMiguk 8
I'm about to purchase a Falcon Northwest. They are usually at the top of the list when it comes to performance machines. I don't know if that's exactly what you're looking for, but everything I've heard about Falcon from people who have used them tells me that they truly stand behind their products and the reputations that PC magazine reviews have built up for them.http://www.falcon-nw.com/I'm completely scratching Windows though, setting up Gentoo Linux on it, and running all my clients with VMWareI'm sure everyone else will just be content with XP though. thebolb33 0
I recentlly bought an Apple, i've been playing poker still on my roomates' computers. I was wondering if VirtualPC is the only option to play sites other then PokerRoom. Notably I wanna be able to play Party, FT, and UB. Is VirtualPC easy to find? expensive? Easy to install/operate? Anyhelp would be appreciated mucho. Outsky!

Runin 0
I have a Dell and my girlfriend has a Dell. We've both had to send them back in for repairs a couple of times. Unfortunately, I didn't buy an extended warranty for mine and its broken again. Turned it off one night and the next day it wouldn't turn on. Nothing, just completely dead, no lights, no noise, nothing. My father has also had problems with his Dell laptop. Next one I buy won't be a Dell, that's for sure. I've been considering an emachines or a sony vaio for my next purchase.

Dirtydutch 8
If you want a windows laptop, Emachines is moss'bout it.But get a power book... really.
Pupsta 0
if you're getting it mostly to play poker, i'd go with a desktop and get a couple of flatpanel monitors...much betterthan playing on my wife's laptop

My reasoning: I'm going to be on the road in January-February, where I'm really going to need my laptop to still be able to play.Plus, I wanna make sure I can truly invest the money I want into my desktop, so that I can actually be happy with the end result (I'm going to building it from scratch). But yeah, if you're staying home and want something to really play on, a duel head desktop is the best decision.
Guest
Dell computers are perfect. I bought a Dell laptop computer in January 2004. I had no problems with it. I sold that laptop to get a new one. I just recieved another brand new Dell laptop today and I am typing with it right now. I got the new Inspiron 6000 with 15.4" widescreen. The screen resolution is awesome. I can fit four poker tables on the screen with no overlap. Its a great buy. You should go with Dell.
Marc-O 0
Dell Inspirion 8600 widescreen 80 gb ......the comp im on now...great machine
Jadaki 0
I just picked up a dell insperion 9300 with the 17 inch widescreen, 4 tabling is a breeze.

DKE_XP120 0
whatever you get, get an AMD64 processor.... all set for next generation operating systems. (And already set for Suse Linux....)you wont notice anything spectacular yet, but when the next version of windows comes out, you're a step ahead
HangukMiguk 8
whatever you get, get an AMD64 processor.... all set for next generation operating systems. (And already set for Suse Linux....)It's not only Suse exclusive. Gentoo Linux is also ahead of the curve and supporting 64 bit processing. Trust me, these things are just hot. Of course, unless you're running a *nix system (which is always ahead of the curve when it comes to supporting new architecture), you are not going to see the difference. But like DKE said, the Longhorn project (which will in the end, be named Windows Something-Or-Other) will support this. However, the Longhorn project has a lot of issues that appears to be driving the knife into the heart of the PC market and twisting it. Whether these have been resolved or not, I don't know.I'm planning a dual AMD Opteron setup on my desktop. Anyone else running such a setup? If so, how's it running for you? na3r0k 0
Ok heres the thing. Apples are a waste of money, but if you suck at using pc's then i recomend getting an apple because it's very hard to ruin those. Or if you're an art student then get an apple. A lot of people get sony vaio's but they are just a computer that looks pretty and nothing more. I recomend dell the most because of the price, and they always tear up their performance tests. For gaming alienware, but those laptops are a bit pricey so unless you're a hardcore gamer don't really need to bother. Bottom line if you're sticking with pc's i definately recomend dell. Overall it's just the best for the dollar. It might not look as nice as the other companies, but if you care about that, then well i'll just leave it at that....OH btw they are coming out with new apples that'll have intel processors go figure, so the price should drop significantly on some of their products in the future. HangukMiguk 8
For gaming alienwareAlienware is too overpriced. I don't want to sound like a shameless plug, but you can get a Falcon Northwest of equal or better performance than Alienware for less money. They also seem (via comparison of both warranties) to stand behind their products with great confidence in them, and much more so than Alienware.
finztotheleft 0
Santa gave me a cheap (approx 700 after rebates) HP Pavillian 4900 and verizon wireless. I am loving it...... You have to give people an idea what you want a comp for. Smaller/lighter would be better to carry around, but my heavier one is great around the house and had a decent sized screen for multitabling.
