If you're looking for a good desktop equivalent laptop, go with the new Toshiba Satellite's with the wide screens (do *not* go with the Quisimo unless battery life is a HUGE factor for you).In general I don't care about the size/weight of the laptop so the slightly bulky Satellite is pretty much my dream machine, it's got a beautiful display area, all the processing power I need, integrated wireless, a ton of hard drive space, DVD or CD burning.... I'm very pleased with it.The only downside of couse is with the real Pentium processor instead of the 4M it's battery life will be significantly shorter... but then again I almost never run it off batteries anyway.. and if battery life is your biggest factor you don't want one of the giant screened laptops anyway.

I would recommend Dell and their Inspiron series. While other companies may have cheaper machines and some have some incredible non-failure rates to report, if something does go wrong, Dell is by far the leader in service. They are the "cream of the crap" when it comes to service. You'll hear people complain about their service, but I guarantee you it is better than any other company out there.Plus, who else will replace your machine for free when you call them and tell them you threw it down the stairs after a bad beat? Dell will.

My current computer sucks, so I'm looking to get a new laptop computer. I'm looking at Dell because my brother has a Dell and it has been very reliable for him. Anybody with a laptop have any reccomendations?
Check Dell specials at http://www.gotapex.com , once a while Dell will have $750 off their $1500+ laptops.but they usually mark up the prices, but it's still a ok deal.I found out some labtops sold at Sam's club are just about as good as the Dell's in terms of quality and price.

Well I know that this friday CompUSA is having a 6pm-12am sale. One of the features is a laptop for like $500 after rebates. I think it was a HP. I just glanced it on the sale PDF.

I picked up a Dell Inspirion 9300, 17" screen and it's fantastic. I've had 4 poker screens open (2 at PP, 2 at RV) and online backgammon going at the same time with no delays switching screens. The Dell has a 2 GHZ processor with a GIG of RAM. It was a little steep at $2400 Canadian but well worth it.

This is the computer I'm going to get. I upgraded it a bit, but still a fair price at $1600 US, considering I'm probably going to use it for 5 years all through college.

My only advice is just don't install file sharing software or you'll have some shitty problems with it trying to get through 5 years of school.

My only advice to him is to have a much bigger hard drive. Ahh, so much porn movies to share, to watch...

Overall, I recommend Dell, but pick the style that suits you best. The better you understand how you work the better you can pick your ideal laptop. After that it's your budget. I tend to buy 2nd tier which is now at the $1500 range before discounts. Also, as you are going for 5 years (WAY too long in my opinion) you need to pick up a good service contract (3-4 year one). Dell has one of the best ones - unless you live in NYC (like me).I'd be happy to provide some detailed help if you'd like. Just PM me.

Dell computers are perfect. I bought a Dell laptop computer in January 2004. I had no problems with it. I sold that laptop to get a new one. I just recieved another brand new Dell laptop today and I am typing with it right now. I got the new Inspiron 6000 with 15.4" widescreen. The screen resolution is awesome. I can fit four poker tables on the screen with no overlap. Its a great buy. You should go with Dell.
I've been looking at the 6000 for awhile now, but can't bring myself to pull the trigger. I am assuming you have the top of the line screen (1900x1200?). You should be able to 4 table with that if font size isn't an issue. 1600x1200 is ok for me on my 20 in CRT, but I'm pretty worried about the fonts being killer small on a 15.4 in. Would anyone with a high res laptop care to comment?

Alienware is too overpriced. I don't want to sound like a shameless plug, but you can get a Falcon Northwest of equal or better performance than Alienware for less money. They also seem (via comparison of both warranties) to stand behind their products with great confidence in them, and much more so than Alienware.
Hence why i followed that statement saying they were a bit pricey, i kind of thought that would clarify =P... mr korean american.

Ah One more thing... I kinda forgot to post this previously, but if possible I would even wait a lil bit to buy a computer. Windows longhorns will be coming out may 2006, and most of the computers now won't really be able to handle the OS. I'd wait to buy one that will be compatible with the new OS, otherwise you might regret buying a computer that you cant use longhorns on. If you're getting and apple then you don't really have to worry about it.
