search: challenge match reporter

Recommended Posts

Daniel is currently looking for a challenge match reporter to cover the action at the Wynn. This is a paying position so in order to fulfill the job requirements, the person must live in Las Vegas and be completely available. Because the challenge matches can happen at any time, availability is very important. If you are interested in this position please send an email to daniel@fullcontactpoker.com. Please send all qualifications you have for this position along with your contact information. Thanks,Travis

I personally think Jayson would be awesome for the job. The diligence he's shown in his work here and elsewhere combined with a good understanding of poker and significant writing skills strongly support that position, and I look forward to reading the reports should their writing be placed in his care. It's a fortuitous coincidence, in my estimation, that he's moving out to Las Vegas.

No, no ....This is an important position considering Daniel's role as Wynn poker ambassador. The position can't be given to just any poker aficionado(no disrespect Jayson). The person will have to be mature, reliable and flexible. But due to the calibre of opponents that Daniel will usually play and the level of play involved, the applicant should also have a deep theoretical understanding of poker in order to effectively report on these matches.JFarrell asks me to tell you that he is available for interview any weekday after 23:00 (when his shift at McDonalds finishes)

Damn it...I live in Miami...if not..I would be there...and I am very qualified....Great job for anybody who gets it......Just as long as they don't make you sign something that says that you can't write a book about these challenge matches when they are done.

Hello,My name is Matt Greer, currently 21 and living in Toronto and will be on the next plane out to Vegas, if selected of course.I've also sent and e-mail."The applicant should also have a deep theoretical understanding of poker in order to effectively report on these matches."Although I'm young I'm probably amassed the playing hours of most 40year olds. I'm at the casinos 3-4times a week and on the net almost 8 hours a day. I've probably saturated most of the credible poker literature available.Again I’m extremely interested in the position, as well as meeting Daniel and getting back to Vegas. I want to move there but wanted to get a job offer first. This could work out perfect for me. Working in a field that I love would be great since I’m taking schooling for sports reporting.

If your above post is any indicator, your writing ability may not be on par with the requirements of the position. No offense, but they are looking for a professional journalist, there to do a job. Probably someone already living in Vegas, because they don't want to have someone relocate for what sounds like a temporary position. Like I said, I mean no offense, but you should really have proofread that post before using it as an application for a position in journalism.

I know! We were going to do this reporting anyway. I have press experience and can "train" you, but really it is just simple writing and knowing some procedures and connections. You have to get this job.I even finished the beta of of the headsup hand history sheets and signed up for a writers' service to submit stories to.Obviously, I cannot apply for the job, but Jayson I'd be glad to help you do this. I even have editors willing to look at our work. That's great value added. We can offer the full range of services from game and hand history recording, press releases, photography and video along with post production.Let's chat later. As an aside, Daniel and Company... you really need more than one person to do this job due to the long time constraints of the heads up matches. This is beyond any editorial oversight and will help catch mistakes and keep your primary reporter happy.

Just as an aside and background, Jayson and I have press passes for the WSOP and were going to be there during the Main Event. However, most of the Main Event coverage will be pretty stale and unimportant. Besides, there will be enough coverage as is. So, we were going to focus on lots of other things. One of the side stories I was pursuing was finding out who was the biggest cash game winner - the "hidden" WSOP champion. I've heard some stories of new guys cleaning up, and of course Ivey, but nothing too huge yet. The biggest story cash game wise is Daniel's Challenge. This is poker in its purest form and there's plenty that pros have to say about this - and it's a story that the public can become interested in if we get the right storyteller. I mean we care so much about tourneys (and rightfully so), but money wise and poker wise, the $500K headsup matches are leagues above the WSOP frenzy. The WSOP buy in is $10K, meanwhile, each betting round they are tossing in much more than this. That is poker. That's the real deal.I was planning on writing my own stuff, but otherwise feeding my notes to more established (book and magazine) writers. I just found out that McManus is feeding the NYTimes and was hoping to check in with him.

Hey thanks for bursting my bubble Diablo. This message board is without spell check. If I was reporting I would be using my laptop for spell check and of course I would submit it to an editor to be proof read. Thanks for your concern but I am perfect for the job.

I can't stand practicing law, my wife nags me 25 out of every 24 hours of the day, my daughter is the poster child for the "terrible twos" even though she is almost 4 and I just offended every female in my office when I remarked, while looking out my window to the parking lot of our building to a BBQ lunch the building is throwing "it is amazing that there are no hot chicks that work in the building"..........where do I sign up. I am ready to move to vegas......hell, it can't be any hotter there than it is here in st. louis (currently its 95 with a relative humidity of 119%).

And who would your editor be? Seriously though, I strongly feel you are not positioning yourself for this job correctly. The more info you give the less I find you to be a suitable candidate. You should be listing what you can specifically offer the employer instead of touting generalist praises.Don't blame the message board for your typos or dependance on spell check. Spell check doesn't catch a lot of errors and nothing is better than having another human looking over your copy. The blame game is very much a part of the American experience and I guess it's part of Canada too.The candidate should have press (sports or court) reporting and PR experience with a degree or enough published work. However, the poker background and writing is even more of a necessity. Sadly, the pool of such people is very small and most of the qualified would not be available to do this job. Jayson Weber is a fine candidate and has established a good reputation on these forums and through his poker writings. Plus, he has an "in" and should pass the personality requirements - which I imagine to be difficult for many applicants. Besides, you're supposed to hire eager young intern guys for jobs like this - people already actively moving with potential and passion. Not people disgruntled with their lives and seeking an out.

An opportunity like this would be perfect for a double major, English and Journalism with a minor in Public Relations and a good understanding of poker (and being a decent Razz player wouldn't hurt).Hey, I know just the guy; Me! Too bad I'm tied down here in good ol' Des Moines. Blah.Kinda makes you want to consider dumping your girlfriend, leave graduate school, quit your job and move to Las Vegas. Good luck whoever snags that.
