Sorry, everyone who disagreed with me can eat me. Actually, I'm just kidding. My only point is that it seems a bit ignorant to be positive something doesn't exist that you can't prove. Just seems silly. And for the record, I can't even wrap my mind around the concept of an all knowing omniscent being. Church makes me sick to my stomach, bible thumpers make me wanna puke, I'd rather be in a room full of lepers than a room full of Christians. Born again Christians believe they are right and everyone else is wrong. F them. The bible is a book of fairy tales and stories that should've been written by Disney. And nothing was written about Christ until 50 years after his death. I'm sure those stories didn't get exxagerated. But I digress. The point is, if someone believes, good for them. A guy with a broken leg needs a crutch doesn't he? I'm just saying, how can you be POSITVE it doesn't exist?

The fact that he is a atheist just makes it even uglier. He tried to justify the nickname by saying that many Mexican families name their children Jesus. However, with Chris, his use of the nickname simply mocks the majority of this country who believe that Jesus was our saviour and died a brutal death for our sins. I'm not sure I follow this.People gave him the nickname of a reverd religous figure because he looks like thier mental picture of that figure. What's the offensive part? If someone looked like people's mental image of Buddah and he started signing things "John 'Buddah' Smith" should Buddihsts be offended?I'm not just being difficult, either. I geniuenely don't understand what's offensive.
Well him being an atheist yet using the name Jesus as a nickname kinda doesnt work. To me its almost like hes playing to the christian crowd by using that name. I know when i first saw it i kinda assumed he was a christian and it was only after reading on sites like these that I found out that he wasnt. I think if your going to use a name especially like that you need to make sure you arent misrepresenting the meaning of the name and in this case Ferguson is. Unabomber is just a bad name and from what ive read..Laak changes nicknames often so hopefully he will find a better one soon
you thought he was christian because of his nickname? I must worship satan then?g

Without reading all the posts, i wanted to comment on a few things i saw. First off I am not sure why it is supposed to be the "christian right" that are out to destroy poker. I play poker, Im a christian and I am heavily involved with my church. I am in weekly contact with Pastors from my church and I have never been afraid to mention that I make the majority of my spending money playing poker online and we have even talked about online poker and how the level of competition is different and all. So to group "christian rights" all in one group is ridiculous. Are there people out there on the right that dont agree with poker? probably...are there probably liberals that dont agree with it to? probably. LIke i said I am a christian and though I am not necessarily offended by Fergusons nickname..Whether I think its right depends a lot on his reasoning for having the name which most of us wont know. If anybody is going to know his reasons its goign to be DN and if he seems to think that Ferguson is doing it to mock christians then yeah I will say that I think it is offensive too.
You ar emaking my point for me. I said Christians can't be lumped into the same group, and one thing that offends one Christian might not offend another, noone's blaming anything on the Christian right. Stop being paranoid. But you cannot say that a great deal of Christians do not think gambling is wrong. I have many Christian friends who grew up in Christian churches mnay of their familie believe gambling is wrong.

In regards to the bet. Only Barry can say for sure whether or not he considers himself a Jew. I am confirmed Catholic but asked what religion I am I would check the N/A box. Sounds like a split pot between you and your father since he was born Jewish and now considers himself an atheist. In regards to Chris "Jesus" Ferguson lighten the eff up. It is a funny nickname. The man does not claim to be any sort of deity. And why get your panties in a bunch about him disrespecting your faith. Why are there some many Christians today? Because they had the biggest armies and converted or killed everyone they fought with a few centuries ago. That sounds like a much greater level of disrespect then a silly nickname. It is great to have faith in higher power and to follow a set of rules to guide you through this life. But to follow a set of rules to secure an after life safe from a "hell" is social control. If any person of any religion leads a moral life and does good deeds for fulfillment in this lifetime than they deserve to be applauded. If they do it for fear of hell than they are sheep, and disingenuous sheep at that.

Ok first off i wasnt being paranoid..several people brought up the christian right so i was commenting on that...As for the different groups being offended...I will whole heartedly agree that it happens. But it does not happen b/c of what the Bible says but more so b/c of what people "feel" that the Bible is implying. Its called LEGALISM and yes it does run rampant in churches unfortunately. I have read of many churches where people werent allowed to go to movies b/c they were sinful. Most of those churchs are wrong and yes some of the extremest do things that make themselves look foolish and give christians a bad name...But for the record...Christianity is based off of Grace of God and that alone. Grace means that we are free to do what we want as long as it doesnt go against the words of the bible. So when people interprete it and make these legalistic demands like no poker or no movies then yes they needed to be corrected but often it is not the majority and rather the minority that feel that way. So please dont lump the majority with the minority

I expect alot of bad reaction for this quote, but I applaud you and agree wholeheartedly.

How can you be positive about anything then? If your reasoning is that something must be 'proven' before you can be postive about it then forget it. It is impossible to 'prove' anything completely. You can't go to every corner of the Universe and test every theory and see if it is still valid. Does that mean you can't be positive about the basic laws of science because you can't prove them everywhere? Utter nonsense. I do not need to prove there is no God in order to be positive he does not exist. If I tell you that the world was created by a one-eyed Unicorn can you prove me wrong? No - but are you positive I am wrong? Probably. If I am confident that other explanations exist that account for everything that has been attributed to God then I can feel confident that he is a fairy tale like the one-eyed Unicorn.

I agree with most of what he says except that I believe you can still be positive about something even if you can't prove a negative.By the way Ron - are you really in Boca. Let's meet for Lunch....

Funny, I work on the corner of Palmetto and Powerline. I must have missed the unicorn. In reply to Torpedo earlier mentioning Weinberger and Cohen. Of all the Jews I have met in South Florida, never have I come across a Casper or a William. First names can be indicators of Jewish heritage. I have met plenty of Barry's.

I repeat that groups shouldnt be lumped together, but I am not repsonsible for keeping track of every Christian group and each one's beliefs because there are so many with so many different beliefs. "Jesus'" point is well taken. Many Christian Mexican families name their children Jesus and it is not considered idolatry, but other Christians are probably offended. WHy should a non Christian be forced to pay attention to to so many beliefs in order not to offend someone. BTW, its not up to non christians to remain current on whats the majority or minority view. Its up to the majority to keep the minority from hijacking the religion and presenting the world with the ugly side of Christianity

I'm 33 Lamebrain. Play on the boat and tourneys at Hard Rock. Two regular house games once a month, sometimes. Straight $2 when I need a poker fix. Mostly $5 $10 or $2 $5 NL and $10 $20 when available on the boat. I felt then need to share my playing habits, why I don't know. Something provoked me. Can't remember. Boca air and all
