raise or free flop

Recommended Posts

I usually play limit hold 'em. I was just wondering if anyone like to see a free flop or raise.
I like to raise with K3 off and see a free flop with AA.Or maybe the other way around.Does this help?

You might need to explain yourself a little more? Are you talking about having AK in the BB and 7264 limpers? You should raise.

i usually do math. I was wondering if anyone prefers addition or subtraction.i usually drive a car. I was wondering if anyone prefers turning left or turning right. i usually eat. I was wondering if anyone prefers using a fork or a spoon. if you'd like to hear more insanely pointless questions, with answers so complicated and dependant on external factors and context that any answer given here will be utterly useless, just let me know.

HAHA......but to try and be nice to the OP who by now has his tail tucked between his legs....OP---depending on position I will sometimes not raise with hands I normally would (of course this is obvious but let me explain)In limit holdem when I am in the SB or BB I will often check a hand I normally would raise with if there were 2 limpers or more. Why? Because I know this single raise will not drive them out (unless I was playing 20/40 or higher or something) and I will just end up having to see a flop either way out of position. Example that happened yesterday:I am in the BB with AK of diamonds. We are playing 5/10 9 handed.UTG, UTG+1, and button all limp. SB calls. There are basically 4 limpers in already and I know from my experience on Party poker that if I raise all of them are calling. In this case I prefer to just check even though I assume I have the best hand at the time because I would rather disguise my hand than build the pot....that is just my 2 cents though.

If three players limp to you in the big blind, would you raise or just check?

Don't ignore the value of simply folding from the BB when several limped in (no doubt slow playing big hands). Just fold, then after the flop would have given you a fullhouse you can come on here and post about it.
Good point. I'd also recommend completing from the small blind and openFarrelling the flop as much as possible.

you dont think a pot sized (or actually a little more than pot sized b/c of position and # of limpers) would drive away all but 1 or two?

Ian I can see you misread....I am talking about 5/10 LIMIT poker....I guess from reading my post I could have talking about 5/10 NL. in NL I DEFINITELY raise there. In limit though I prefer to call because I know teh extra 5 dollars wont drive anyone out at all. Cheers!

Id say you are making a fundamental mistake not to raise there. AKs stands to win faaaar more than its fair share against 3 limpers. It has huge potential to be dominating all kinds of limpable hands, it can make a nut flush and a nut straight, you gain all kinds of fold equity, and it plays fairly well multiway. You are LOSING MONEY if you dont raise here, in all but the toughest limit games. Of course, you should be raising a few other hands here too, so that your holdings arent completely obvious. try raising 89s or 10Js occasionally in this situation in addition to AA, KK, and AKs (preferably 1 or 2 more limpers, and VERY occasionally). This will make your big blind raises a little more confusing. Just yesterday i capped it cold out of the SB with QQ in a 3-6 game, then flopped top set and turned quads. Someone else had made jacks full, and refused to believe i didnt have AA or KK, capping every street with me.

With typical 5/10 players at the casino I play at, handreading is a skill they have yet to possess in the smallest inclination. With typical opponents, not raising preflop with AKs (out of the BB) with 4 limpers to you is a mistake. You have a big enough pot equity edge preflop against a typical range of hands (that loose 5/10 players would limp with) that, giving up this edge for deception purposes postflop just isn't worth it.Raise preflop and get that extra dead money in the pot. This could be a moderate leak in your game if you follow logic in this other preflop situations.

I see your point but I find that if I do what I described once or twice then people start to think that every time I check my BB I must have a good hand or at least I might have a good hand and once I have them thinking I like my chances....that said I am going to try and mix in both my play and also try it the way you recommended and see what happens....I will say I like my play on this because I think it is a good way to mix up my game a little and keep people off balance....and as far as what you crump....I doubt its even a minor leak solely because A) how often do you see a truly premium hand in the BB? and B) this is a play I really only use from the BB (maybe occasionally from the SB) and never from anywhere else.....also you related your post to things you see in a casino and I made it very clear that this is a move I use ONLY on Party Poker...I find it very effective to use on that one site because of the loooose play there in general....in any other position on party poker I play VERY straightforward pre-flop....its not creative but it works
