Insight into the mind of a poker pro:

In a moment of true sickness tonight, with about 20 minutes left in the dinner break I decide dto play a few hands of 50/100 stud 8.Amazing, playing a tourny worth a couple of million dollars and I need a little extra fix at dinner break.  It's true I am officially the sickest living human.
LOL, that IS sick!

In one of Doyle's books he writes about playing in a high stakes cash game during dinner break of a big tournament. He apparently took a beating in this side game and when he got back to his tournament table somebody asked him how he did. He replied with something like, "well, if I win this tournament I'll only be stuck $60,000."

I can empathize with that feeling. Luckily, I can control it.Some people call it ambition. Isn't that what it really is? An strong eager desire to achieve something. Real ambition, find joy in the the quest itself and not just the destination. It is just worth it to take that step.I know it is called a sickness frequently, but it is more than that. It's the source of our poker mojo. Sickness implies disease. It's not disease - it's ambition run amok. But, yeah, I'll use the word "sick" since it's common poker parlance.btw, I have little respect for ANY Gamblers Anonymous groups. Especially, those religiously based (which almot all are). And I'm an ex-pastor.

at this point, I feel tempted to tell people to embrace the dark side and utilize its power... meh.

Another final table for Gavin at the WSOP today. He might just be the hottest holdem tourney player around.
Too bad he looks like an absolute mongoloid. He should use some of his tournament winnings on plastic surgery.gav6.jpg
